  1. Someone who got a printed setlist can confirm, but I think Black Moon was the only scratch off the planned list. Not sure if something else got substituted in its place, but anyway.

It was sort of weird to see the Hunter Center without either the bleacher/stadium seating or full of rows of chairs (like when it was used for the comedy sets during Solid Sound). It seemed a lot smaller than I thought, sort of like a college's multi-purpose room if that helps anybody get a better sense. But it sure was LOUD in there, at least where I was standing; I think Jeff even said something to that effect at some point.

I wonder how well the band was able to hear one another on stage — I'm guessing not very — and also wonder if that had any bearing on Jeff and Co. not doing some of the "real rockers" (though they certainly played some rocking songs).

It seemed loud to me too... although in Essex Junction there was some ridiculously loud bass during Art of Almost that you could feel all through your body... and it wasn't as intense last night. There was a father and young son near me and they were covering their ears a lot, which I found amusing

  2. Incredible night of music... you could really see that the band was enjoying themselves and they were very appreciative towards the audience... more so than usual in my experience. Jeff's sister was there and he told some funny stories about her dressing him up as a girl when he was young... and that is why he is so feminine. It was funny.

At the end of the show, Jeff said "well, we did it... that's a rock n roll show" and man was he right. They rocked. A great show for those of us lucky enough to be there... small crowd... maybe 1,000 people if that.

I'm sure this is out of order and bbop will correct me, but from what I remember

Monday and Outtasite were cut from the second encore according to the setlist I got. They were positioned in between Walken and Hoodoo. Beautiful night and incredible place to see a show. Band was in a great mood. Jeff told a funny story about meeting the Ramones when he was 14 in St. Louis... Christ for President was an unexpected and great opener... although sound was off on the lyrics for the first verse of the song... more later...

  4. As the person who started this thread and as someone who was a late-in-musical-life Dead convert, please check this one out! Anyone who likes American rock 'n' roll should appreciate Buddy Holly and his influence on future generations of musicians... The Dead completely ROCK this tune. Watch this starting at .25 seconds and you can't deny that this song rocks ...

  5. Its a bit validating to me to hear Weir with basically the same opinion as me about live Wilco vs. Wilco in the studio. I guess there is an aesthetic that links Wilco and the Grateful Dead, at least for me.

Me too... they are the two bands that I listen to the most, by far. They are different for me in that I don't consider Wilco a jam band, but there is something that attracts my ear in a different way with the two bands compared to other bands. I love how both the Dead and Wilco can rock and captivate an audience with the mellow, poetic stuff... versatile, unique, entertaining and beautifully complex.

  6. Here is an excerpt from an interview with Bob Weir in 2010

Are there any contemporary jam bands that you think have the stuff that The Grateful Dead had? Is there anybody that you see out there that you admire?

“Yeah, I’m a big fan of Wilco’s, for instance. I don’t so much care for their records as I love what they do live. Having played on the same bill with them a couple of times, I was dazzled. Aside from that, really, I don’t listen to a lot of current, contemporary music. And so I’m not the one to ask.”

The entire interview can be read here:

  7. I heard a great one, supposedly from friends of the promoter who sealed the deal...and these folks I heard it from are huge Wilco fans.

I may post more on here soon, but I don't know how quiet, or not, this is supposed to be, so I need to check on that first...but...

From what I understand the next announcement for tour dates will happen this Tuesday & will make folks in Western & Central New York State VERY happy! I'm thrilled & will now be going to one show very nearby, one fairly close & the one in Camden/Philly.

You're killing me here... need more info! I live in Saratoga Springs, NY and am very curious... please... go for it and spill the beans
