Very cool night... Magazine was great to hear and first time I've heard Capitol City, which was cool.... I also thought Box Full of Letters was exceptionally good. I just drove 1.5 hours home and didn't listen to a single song... Wilco's music was still ringing in my ears!
-
I agree about Jeff's guitar... also, Pat rips it on Handshake which I never noticed before. That was only my second time seeing Too Far Apart and it was the highlight for me too...
-
Late Greats was definitely the closer after Monday-Outta Site
-
There is an official setlist posted on the Wilco facebook page, but Late Great isn't there... that was a last minute add on by Tweedy... he walked around the stage telling the other guys and they busted into it... incredible concert
-
Oh yeah... they played Hate it Here too
-
Incredible night of music... you could really see that the band was enjoying themselves and they were very appreciative towards the audience... more so than usual in my experience. Jeff's sister was there and he told some funny stories about her dressing him up as a girl when he was young... and that is why he is so feminine. It was funny.
At the end of the show, Jeff said "well, we did it... that's a rock n roll show" and man was he right. They rocked. A great show for those of us lucky enough to be there... small crowd... maybe 1,000 people if that.

Monday and Outtasite were cut from the second encore according to the setlist I got. They were positioned in between Walken and Hoodoo. Beautiful night and incredible place to see a show. Band was in a great mood. Jeff told a funny story about meeting the Ramones when he was 14 in St. Louis... Christ for President was an unexpected and great opener... although sound was off on the lyrics for the first verse of the song... more later...

As the person who started this thread and as someone who was a late-in-musical-life Dead convert, please check this one out! Anyone who likes American rock 'n' roll should appreciate Buddy Holly and his influence on future generations of musicians... The Dead completely ROCK this tune. Watch this starting at .25 seconds and you can't deny that this song rocks ...
-
can anyone point me to a song where the Dead actually rock?
One more rockin' tune from the Dead

Its a bit validating to me to hear Weir with basically the same opinion as me about live Wilco vs. Wilco in the studio. I guess there is an aesthetic that links Wilco and the Grateful Dead, at least for me.
Me too... they are the two bands that I listen to the most, by far. They are different for me in that I don't consider Wilco a jam band, but there is something that attracts my ear in a different way with the two bands compared to other bands. I love how both the Dead and Wilco can rock and captivate an audience with the mellow, poetic stuff... versatile, unique, entertaining and beautifully complex.

Here is an excerpt from an interview with Bob Weir in 2010
Are there any contemporary jam bands that you think have the stuff that The Grateful Dead had? Is there anybody that you see out there that you admire?
“Yeah, I’m a big fan of Wilco’s, for instance. I don’t so much care for their records as I love what they do live. Having played on the same bill with them a couple of times, I was dazzled. Aside from that, really, I don’t listen to a lot of current, contemporary music. And so I’m not the one to ask.”

got mine too for 125! Newport, Essex Junction and North Adams all in one week... going to be a great stretch.... can't wait

Has anyone heard from Mass MoCA yet about the ticket auction? Eagerly waiting here...

Question for others going to Newport - will call only? That seemed to be the only option when I purchased my tix

Got 2 for Newport and VT! Now thinking about Cooperstown and Rochester...

I heard a great one, supposedly from friends of the promoter who sealed the deal...and these folks I heard it from are huge Wilco fans.
I may post more on here soon, but I don't know how quiet, or not, this is supposed to be, so I need to check on that first...but...
From what I understand the next announcement for tour dates will happen this Tuesday & will make folks in Western & Central New York State VERY happy! I'm thrilled & will now be going to one show very nearby, one fairly close & the one in Camden/Philly.
You're killing me here... need more info! I live in Saratoga Springs, NY and am very curious... please... go for it and spill the beans

I love the part when he says Sammy Hagar looks like Carol King - hysterical!

I saw them at this venue in 2010 and thought it was flat too... huh... never disappointed at a wilco show though... love those guys.... this was a festival with Deertick, Old Crow, Phospherescent and a few others.... talked to John and Pat before the Wilco set.... good memories....

It seemed loud to me too... although in Essex Junction there was some ridiculously loud bass during Art of Almost that you could feel all through your body... and it wasn't as intense last night. There was a father and young son near me and they were covering their ears a lot, which I found amusing
