I'm going to my first Phish show tonight and I've never listened to them. What should I expect?
-
I will be attending my first NFL game ever this Sunday at the new Cowboys Stadium. And then I'll be going to the Big 12 Championship game there two weeks later. Very excited.
Thats awesome!

Something about that feels untrue. I don't buy it.

And what news and faux-news sources do you avoid?
I follow (daily):
NPR while driving (30-60 minutes/day). Usually Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
New York Times
Startribune (newspaper of the Twin Cities. Mostly for sports )
Google's News page to peruse headlines.
Weekly:
Realclearpolitics.com (check it out if you're a political junkie)
The Newshour (sporadically. IMO the best news source in the business!)
This Week with George S. Appointment television every Sunday morning.
McLaughlin Group
Anything by George Will, Peggy Noonan, Ben Stein, Pat Buchannan, Thomas L. Friedman, Frank Rich...
I think I avoid pretty much everything else

sub-thread listing reputable news sources v. those of.... ill-repute..? Any interest there?

I agree. I'm still saying the Steelers win it all though. Probably over the Queens.
I get excited about the Vikings quickly and easily, and I do believe we have the most talent in the league, but, in my more sober moments, I can't honestly see us winning the Super Bowl; kinda like a BoSox fan prior to 04. I'm hoping, though. I might even have to profess a belief in God just so I can pray for it.

Vikings dominating pro-bowl voting. AP 3rd in the NFL behind Brees and Manning. from the strib:
Vikings who lead their positions in the NFC are Peterson, fullback Naufahu Tahi, offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie, offensive guard Steve Hutchinson, center John Sullivan, defensive end Jared Allen, defensive tackle Pat Williams, kick returner Percy Harvin, kicker Ryan Longwell and special teams player Heath Farwell.
Vikings who are currently second in fan voting are Favre, defensive tackle Kevin Williams, offensive guard Anthony Herrera, cornerback Antoine Winfield, outside linebacker Chad Greenway and punter Chris Kluwe.
I'll say it again, I think we have the most talented team in the nfl.

I think it's a valid opinion to just dislike Bruce's sound. However, Bruce's inclusion on any list is more than valid, as well.
I haven't heard scores of what's being listed. I'm staring at a list of 14 I'm planning on checking out. Keep it up, people!

Nice list. Requested some Neko Case, M. Ward and Broken Social Scene from the local library. Excited to listen

Glad to see Jeff Gillooly has found work.

Oh my God. I'd heard all about Glenn Beck, seen a few minutes of his show a couple years ago and pretty much forgot about/ignored him from there. That video is kinda the first I've really seen of him doing his Howard Beale thing. What an outrage!! People buy this shit!?!? I...it.. I...,, it has to be a joke. It... like, seriously, this is one of those moments (that I'm having increasingly as I age) where I could swear the whole world is conspiring to play a ridiculous, unbelievable joke on me.
Well, I won't be fooled! Glenn Beck....pshaw. Nice try, everybody. You'll have to do better than that to fool me!

I hate all the fawning attention this guy gets. And people call him a genius...?
I particularly appreciated this: The reasoning in “Outliers,” which consists of cherry-picked anecdotes, post-hoc sophistry and false dichotomies, had me gnawing on my Kindle.

Hey Kevan, did you go to the game?
If you're still looking for a good game, DPU (7-2) plays @ Thomas Moore (10-0) on Saturday in the first round of the DIII playoffs. I'm seriously considering making a road trip. That's only 3 hours from my house.
http://www.depauw.edu/ath/news.asp?id=24402
Unfortunately, DPU lost the big Monon Bell game to Wabash (9-1) on Saturday. 32-19
I saw that. I'd like to catch a game but I'll be out of town this weekend. Hope you get a chance to see a win!
The 8-team west region has the #s 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 teams in the country in it. Whoever wins the region should get some kind of trophy (because they probably won't get "the" trophy).
I caught about a quarter of the MSJ-TM game. Brought the dog. He was slightly overstimulated by all the people, sounds... The view from the hill behind the end zone was pretty distant and I don't have great eyesight. It was fun though. Thomas More is eminently beatable.

I have a friend that calls me "Wilco". He called my cell phone and played some Mermaid Ave as a voicemail message.
A guy I work with used to be my mortal enemy. I couldn't call him by his name. I used his initials, but not to his face. So, about 2 years later he was loaned into my department and we had a meeting at my desk. I have Wilco wall, complete with the 2009 Wilco calendar, ticket stubs and a few cell phone pix. (i promise frome here on out I WILL NEVER take cell phone pix again at a show). He saw my calendar and asked "is that Wilco?" I said yes and he said that HE was a Wilco fan, and we've been pals ever since.
If me and this guy can come together over Wilco, maybe there is hope for every one.
Maybe at the next G 20?
I'm reading this while listening to the last track on KT:
If all men were truly brothers, why, then, we hurt one another? Love. And peace. From ocean to ocean...
Serendipity!

I'm just gonna throw this in here since I don't think its thread-worthy/necessary:
I've spent my Friday night cooking dinner to Sky Blue Sky, eating/cleaning/fixing the refrigerator to Summerteeth, watching the first half of the UC-WVU football game to YHF, and now I'm drinking wine while listening to Kicking Television. It's a good night! I haven't gotten a Wilco fix in weeks!
oh, its ok for you to say what you want from me. I believe thats the only way for me to be.... (is what I'm currently hearing)

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

Thursday night football tonight! Can't believe it's week 10.
SF to win tonight. Anyone interested in a picks competition for the rest of the season? We could go straight up or against lines. Winner gets a beer from the loser(s) next Wilco show

Sadly, I don't like to fly anymore. So I don't really see me being stranded on a desert island. So I'd prefer an emoticon party on this island instead of cds.
Plus, if you're listening to music all the time how will you hear the helicopter sent to rescue you.
Man, I wish I could be stoned right now
U2 Achtung Baby
R.E.M. Life's Rich Pageant
Duran Duran Greatest (just for the inspiring Rio video while on a nice island)
Pearl Jam No Code
Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Fuck it, if I get rescued it HAS TO BE Duran Duran in their white outfits on the yacht with a bunch of hot chicks.
And yes they need to be singing Rio.
Edit: If that's how Lost ends then it'd be amazing! J.J. Abrams you sly dog you.

Paul Simon - Paul Simon
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
Radiohead - KidA
Neutral Milk Hotel - Aeroplane...
Beatles - Abbey Road
this doesn't include the SCORES I'd be able to play start-to-finish (or on shuffle ) in my head.
Leading me to a sub-question: which albums would you be "bringing with you" in the aforementioned capacity?
most of Wilco catalogue
most of Radiohead "
most of Dave Matthews Band (sadly. I might never play those )
some Bowie
some Lou Reed
alot of White Stripes
ok, this is getting dumb. Anyway, what do you have stored in the old memory bank? I don't want to hi-jack, different thread???

I was unawares of the presence of good d3 teams in the Cincinnati area. Apparently #25 Mount Saint Joseph is on the west side, mere minutes from downtown, and #11 Thomas More is just over the river in Kentucky. Happily, they'll be playing each other in the Bridge Bowl (reference to their separation by the Ohio river) at MSJ this Saturday with much on the line. It's supposedly a nice little rivalry and it's the last week of the regular season and both teams are unbeaten so the winner is set up to start the playoffs at home while the loser will likely start on the road; a big game indeed!
It'll be difficult not to listen to the Johnnies, but I might have to head over there to check it out. Anyone ever been?

The Vikes haven't played well for 60 minutes yet this year (in fact, I'd argue they haven't even come close). If they can get there (they did last year, team just wasn't as good) I think we have the best team in the league.

I thought Brett had a great shot at a great season with the Vikings.
