I like the Cowboys to win the East. I have been saying the Eagles up until recently. My current prediction is that we'll see a Vikings/Cowboys NFC Championship.
I should also add that I think either team will lose to the Steelers. They've looked impressive to me since their loses to the Bears and Bengals.
I like where your heads at. I haven't seen much of the Cowboys since early in the year, so I can't say much about them, but I predict a Minnesota-New Orleans NFC Ch. with Minnesota winning. I think the Vikes have the most talent in the game, overall, but Pittsburgh scares me. If we can avoid them I think we have a great chance at winning the Super Bowl. Actually, bag that. This is the Vikes year. I'm just convinced, though it's highly likely my POV is tainted by my love for them.
Predictions at the halfway point:
New England exits early.
New Orleans falls short.
Indy, too.
San Diego or Pitt will win the AFC.
Minnesota wins NFC and Super Bowl!

Big win for the Cowboys, who now face three winnable games in a row: Green Bay in Lambeau and Washington and Oakland at home. If they can get to 9-2 heading into the final stretch of the season, an 11- or 12-win season is definitely within reach. This Packers game is pretty big.
What the hell is diff for the Cowboys now compared to early season!? They looked awful early and now they're a juggernaut!
re: NFC North, what a motley crew that is! Got the best team in the league, 2 also-rans and the worst team. Thats some separations

Anyone know where the sites are of the first round of the playoffs? Are these determined in advance? Might try to go to the playoff game if its in reasonable driving distance from central Indiana.
Playoff games are held at the higher seeded teams home field until the championship game. You may have some chances to catch a game!
*although, I just looked at the regional rankings and DePauw was ranked 10 of 10 in the South on Nov. 4. The selection committee uses the regional rankings for seeding, obviously. But, a) the rankings can change quite a bit from week to week and, there's always a chance a team could be moved to another region and get a different seed accordingly. I wouldn't bet on a home playoff game for DePauw, but who knows? Selection on espnnews Sunday at 3et!

Band members contributions you say, well, at least one of them (past tense) was very thorough about keeping such lists. If you do a little sleuthing, you just mind find that which I speak of.

Give Jay Bennett some credit here.......
It was him that pretty much cajoled Jeff to cover stuff that Bob Dylan passed over....

Well, obviously my perspective is a tad biased. But the way the music was constructed to fit the lyrics is one of the most amazing things I've ever encountered in rock music. Or ANY music, for that matter.
Clearly, this being my first time hearing it, I'm a little late to the game. Kinda sucks, because There's so much from the Jay period I just don't know. I'm trying to learn but it's not easy. Thanks for the heads-up, though!
You know what I'd like to see? A list of each (wilco) band members contributions on each song.
-
I just heard this song for the first time tonight. Wow. I can't even say much more beyond that. It's just an amazing poem. Obviously, credit to Woody Guthrie there. Jeff was perfect though. What a song....

How could I forget The Strokes.
I dont know

Hope you end up liking at least some of it. My musical taste is pretty narrow, and I've grown to admit and accept this, like any other addiction.
You need some samples, just ask.
Thanks!
I'm hoping for an assist from the local public library.

Lizish, of your top 8 I've only ever heard of Wrens and have never actually heard any of that music (to my knowledge). I'll have to check that stuff out! That's my favorite part of lists like these, discovering stuff I've never heard (of).

The range of music I've listened to is maddeningly narrow. There are many albums at or near the top of other "Best of the Decade" lists I've never heard.
-
I'd forgotten about Dog Problems! Thats def. near the top for me. I looove that album.
Also, I feel like I'm the only person who prefers Cassadaga to Wide Awake. Maybe it's because I've only listened to Wide Awake, like, thrice, and it never grabbed me.
-
Can I change the thread topic? Maybe something like:
Music Related Lists of the 00s...
00s: Music of the Decade (lists/discussion)
-
I was thinking of starting a thread for top anything music-related of the decade. May I use this thread for posting these sorts of things? (Stuff like....Top Ten Hip-Hop Singles of the '00s, Top Ten Overhyped Bands That Actually Don't Suck of the '00s...whatever you want to list.)
I'll understand if not, I can start another...
Of course we can! Lets party in here!
I hope to see some best album of the decade lists but, if not, que sera... I think those are the most fun.
-
We have two months but it's time to start doing your homework! I'm aiming for top 50, but I already have a prospective list of about 70 albums, many of which I'll need to hear again; this could take a while (for me). I know my 1-2, thats about it.
Post lists of any length!

Sunken Treasure. English - Yiddish - Swedish - Arabic - English
It "rows and rows of houses
With windows painted blue
With a background TV
Parallel to you
But there is no sunken treasure
It is said that
Vrapped inside my Rice
A sea of black ink
I
False
You
I am the way of melody
You
If you buy a mountain
I would like to try to put it over
If you buy a boat (and probably more than a lap)
I knew that I may turn (leave it on the beach)
I leave it on the beach (leave it to someone)
Leave it to someone
There's certainly no
Those who need it more than me
OK, I've had my fun. And I totally forgot this thread was on another topic. Sorry!
re: original post, that translations kinda poetic. I like it. Seems to fit Wilco.

She's a Jar. English - French - German - Italian - Afrikaans - English
She's a Jar
With a heavy lid
My child Pop Quiz
Sleeping Kisser
Pretty War
With hidden feelings
She begs me not passing
They always say
In the light of the fuse
We may use
A handful of the wheel
And a day of rest
And a path gekneusde
However, you can feel
Tonight is true
When I forget to mention, I sing
Thank you for your
Connect the flash glare
And red eyes
Unless close
If you click
And my face is sick
Vas like a question unposed
Net council
Traces of a package of arms
In my fragile family tree
And watch me floating inches above

Sorry to hijack the thread for a moment, but this gives me an idea - a whole new way to write lyrics! Write something, put through a lang. trans. program into another language, say spanish maybe. Then do it again into japanese, then italian, then back to english. I wonder how Wilco lyrics would fare?
OK, I tried it with the first part of Jesus, Etc. Went from english to spanish to german to italian, then back to english:
Jesus, do not cry.
That you can trust me honey.
It is also possible to combine what you want.
I'll be around.
You rightly stars.
Each one is a setting sun.
Tall buildings shake.
Sad voices escape, singing sad songs.
Tuned ropes hanging down her cheeks.
Bitter melodies turning your orbit.
OK all you songwriter types - don't forget to give me credit in your Grammy acceptance speech!!
This idea is best long in time!
Seriously, don't you see like a million stupid blogs like 'cake wrecks' that become huge, overnight sensations for less creativity / entertainment value than this? I need more!

Anyone ever listen to When Radio Was on public radio? I've been listening for a few years, here and there. It's a gem!
If you're unfamiliar, When Radio Was features radio shows from "the Golden Age" of radio (30s-50s). They have variety shows, comedies, crime dramas, science fiction... It actually started as a local show in Chicago in 1990 (so says wikipedia). I urge you to give it a try some night (or whenever its broadcast in your area). Its amazing how different art/entertainment was in that time and medium compared to modern television.

Just finished The Unbearable Lightness of Being. One of the best books I've had the pleasure to read. You must, Must, read this book.
-
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. Awful. Just terrible.
-
What is the What by Eggers was really good.
I've started War and Peace like 3 times and always lose steam in the.. early hundreds someday though. I can't even remember most of the books I've disliked because I just put them down at that point (usually pretty early). I can't understand wasting my time reading a book/author I dislike. my GF almost always finishes a book once she starts it. Que sera...

I'm guessing you mean Lidge, right?
I can't blame Charlie or any of the pitchers. It's the offense that's come up small. All those three-run homers have become solo homers. Man on 2nd and 0 out and you get two straight popups. Meanwhile, the Yankees are doing all the little things and tacking on runs.
I didn't make that clear at all. I actually meant Lee in game 1. He should have been out there to start 4. Lights out and series is tied. Thats just my take, I get the counter-argument and we'll never know anyway.
-
I feel mountains of sympathy for Packer fans but, as a Viking fan, let me just say:
WWWWHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhooooohoooooohoooooooooooohooooo!!!!!!!!
-
Manuel throwing Lee out there for the ninth looks like a really poor decision that may well cost the Phillies their best shot at the World Series. Brutal. Ridiculous. If I'm a Phillie fan I'd be enraged.
