  1. Let me set the scene. I'm in the truck, windows down on a 65 degree sunny Kentucky afternoon. I've just picked up my girls (6 & 4) from the babysitter and a detour is in order...its way too pretty out. We are winding thru a local, densely wooded park with sunlight beaming thru the leaves where it can. Josh Ritter's "Light of My Lantern" goes off of the excellent local public radio station and I hear those sweet first few strums...ah "California Stars". Made our day.

  2. the 2nd SNL track is nice but really corny, like top 40 radio style. Nothing wrong with a good pop song but this just wont get repeat plays from me. Too bad cause I love dude's voice. Guess I'll stick to my Broken Bells records

I'm actually really digging this song. This performance on SNL was the first time I had heard it and thought it was very "ok" but it has came through randomly on my Ipod twice in the last week which further proves my theory that my ipod has a brain and reacts to my every thought but thats for a different forum. Anyway I know this song doesn't have alot of teeth and is pretty easy to listen to but those two qualities werent always negatives.

  3. I decided to put Kicking Television back in rotation in my car this week. It was a good decision.

I do this every few months and still come away amazed.

A couple weeks before Whole Love released I took a break from the site just because I was getting frustrated with the over analyzation of the yet to be released album. There was too much thinking going on for my taste! Take a break Crow, its quite refreshing.

  4. It was just an observation on how quickly some people tend to grade albums these day. Seems like when really good bands make a new record these days nobody is just happy to have a new album by a good band...it's usually more like "why doesn't it sound like their old stuff", or "it sounds too much like their old stuff", "they played it safe", etc... I think this record sounds just like all the other Shins albums and I'm good with that.

  5. All the guys did a great job with the album. I especially enjoy the moments where the harmonies build in.

Some of my favorite parts are when Jay sings backup. This was something I also loved on the album he did with Ben Gibbard. His voice truly adds something special to a song.

The "One Fast Move..." album is in my top 25 favorite albums. Perfect blend as you said acompanied by some fabulous songwriting.

  6. Northern Ky as well as Southwest Ohio were hit pretty hard. I believe they are saying at least 10 people died in the tri-state area here. My little town was virtually untouched but places as close as 10 miles as the crow flies had entire streets wiped out. Moscow Ohio which is about 30 miles Southeast is 85% "gone" according to the news. I was out on the porch with a coffee watching it roll in from the Southwest and I started to notice debris falling from basically nowhere out of the sky. It was originating way up, higher than could possibly be from any trees or gutters around. Started as leaves and twigs and then I started to see what appeared to be paper. Finally ran out into the rain to grab one and was surprised to see it was a tattered picture of a black family at a waterpark. There arent any black families in this town or the town west of us. Pretty eerie! I hope they are doing ok because whatever hit their place obviously made one hell of a mess.

  7. This is outstanding. Jacket Saturday,Wilco Sunday, outdoors in the middle of summer. I'm going to have a dream tonight about Wilco's encore with Jim James,Neko,John McCauley,Justin Townes Earl, Dr.Dog, Andrew Bird, Daniel Martin Moore and Beach Hose jamming a 15 minute "Spiders". I believe they call that a nocturnal emission.

  8. I'd call that more of a tour-ette.

I can't believe they are pandering to the incessant whining of the Via Chicago Floridians!!!! Vince, join me in the mentioning of how few times the current line up has visited Central and Northern Kentucky.

  9. I was a little baffled by the sell out this morning. Possible contributers could be the mention in the newsletter, the new album, and or just general growing popularity. One thing that caught my eye immediately though was the limit of 8. Its GA so I cant see one scenario where an individual would have to buy tickets for 7 other people that are not available to get online on a late Saturday morning. The last two years these shows have been no more than 3/4 the way full.

I'd say if your standing outside the Vic at 7:45 your still pulling a ticket for maybe $75 at the most.

  10. I had to put 4 individual tickets in my cart for Saturday night. This will my third year in a row. Starting to get tricky though with the kids getting older. Actually rescheduled the family's spring break getaway. Loser...maybe but these shows are pretty special. Might actually get in line early this year and hear that acoustic "On and On and On" that I've longed for.

  11. I must admit that when I was about 8, even though I was in gifted, I never used or thought of the phrase "pompous ass". Much respect to you.

It was said I was a precocious youth with an affinity for Phil Donahue bred from 2 smart ass parents.....deadly concoction.

  12. Foster the People may have been the best part of that segment. Mike Love looked like a douche and Brian Wilson looked like the crazy uncle who had escaped from the attic.

I can't remember Mike Love not looking and acting like a douche. I can actually remember being about 8 and seeing him in the Kokomo video and thinking "man..... that guy looks like a pompous ass".

  13. i found this one from the red carpet

Jeff looks like a drunk hobo who was walking past a photo shoot of a band whom happen to be missing its frontman but had a suit laying there and said "Hey...homeless guy. Here, put on this suit and jump in this picture real quick" and he agreed under the condition he could leave his hat on.

  14. No...

    You are missing the point.

I am seeing if anyone is interested in it, and if they are I will put it up.

I didn't come here to start arguments or cause problems. I just want it to go to some who actually likes Wilco instead of my throwing it away.

Sounds like a nice gesture from a music fan...thanks. I'm sure its not in my budget but if you get to the throwing it away stage I'd gladly go thru your garbage.
