Again, bleedorange has it exactly right. Even the live version of Impossible Germany, for me, is just waiting for the inane minimalist lyrics to be over so we can all "enjoy" the mighty Nels wankfest. I almost used it for a piss break in Atlanta.
By the way, I have stated multiple times here that I consider Jeff to be one of America's greatest songwriters (or words to that effect). So it was doubly disappointing for me, as a writer, to hear lyrics like "I remember my mother’s sister’s husband’s brother" or "I do the dishes, I mow the lawn" (I write my grocery list, I rub one out...). Compare that to 99% of S/T or YHF, and we shouldn't even have to have this conversation...
"Always bet on black...black jack...I'll pay you back"
"Dimetapp and Spinal Tap"
"Oh hey ho...look out below"
"Playin Kiss covers beautiful and stoned"
"Hello private callers,ID's blocked"
I guess this stuff is all flawless. Nothin inane or minimalist here.

I think a lot of folks were taken aback after a run of records full of troubled, twisted, haunting, hopeful, poetic lyrics and imagery and then hearing straightforward, less cryptic lines like "Maybe you still love me, maybe you don't, either you will or you won't," "I do the dishes, I mow the lawn" and "I'm walkin' all by myself."
Not to say that "I'm a Wheel" has any real deep meaning -- to me, it's just a great thrasher with some nonsense lyrics.
You can work your way thru any Wilco album and find lyrics that aren't as good as others. Not mature is just a bit ridiculous. Soundgarden's "Big Dumb Sex" has immature lyrics, not Either Way.

I am thinking about divorcing my wife. I was wondering if there are any peeps out there that have survived a divorce who have any words of advice.
I know it is a heavy topic for this forum, but it is kind of related. Me and my wife are just moving in totally different directions. She doesn't like music at all. Especially not the kind of music that I am into. I want to be free to smoke weed and listen to music and go to concerts and shit like that. I have given all of that up because she is totally against it.
After we were married she became a conservative born again christian.
Any advice from people who have been through divorce is really welcomed.
If you don't have any kids to protect I would start being free and smokin weed(if you want) and listening to music and going to concerts and if she can't let you live how you want to live then hell with her its your life. If you do have kids its not just your life and you need to do whats best for them. If you follow this advice I will need you to mail me a check for $90 though whether it works or not.

That's a little harsh I think.
So you have an extra?

What aspect of the songwriting on Sky Blue Sky shows maturity?
You've made it more than clear you don't like SBS. I get it. It comes into play almost everytime you comment on the quality of a Wilco album. I understand how opinions work and overall quality is subjective when it comes to music or any other form of art. That being said I don't think maturity of lyrics is quite as subjective. What are some of the specific lyrics on SBS that you would say are immature or is this just another avenue for your favorite Via Chicago past time...SBS bashing.

A LIVE ALBUM FROM THE RYMAN SHOWS...and another poster for night one so I don't have to actually consider spending $100 on one from some asshole on Ebay.

The mare soon after my entrance, rose from her mat, and coming up close, after having nicely observed my hands and face, gave me a most contemptuous look; then turning to the horse, I heard the word Yahoo often repeated betwixt them; the meaning of which word I could not then comprehend, although it were the first I had learned to pronounce; but I was soon better informed, to my everlasting mortification: for the horse beckoning to me with his head, and repeating the word Hhuun, Hhuun, as he did upon the road, which I understood was to attend him, led me out into a kind of court, where was another building at some distance from the house. Here we entered, and I saw three of these detestable creatures, whom I first met after my landing, feeding upon roots, and the flesh of some animals, which I afterwards found to be that of asses and dogs, and now and then a cow dead by accident or discase. were all tied by the neck with strong withes, fastened to a beam; they held their food between the claws of their forefeet, and tore it with their teeth.
The learning of this people is very defective, consisting only in morality, history, poetry, and mathematics, wherein they must be allowed to excel. But the last of these is wholly applied to what may be useful in life, to the improvement of agriculture, and all mechanical arts; so that among us it would be little esteemed. And as to ideas, entities, abstractions, and transcendentals, I could never drive the least conception into their heads.
The Emperor of Blefuscu having taken three days to consult, returned an answer consisting of many civilities and excuses. He said, that as for sending me bound, his brother knew it was impossible; that although I had deprived him of his fleet, yet he owed great obligations to me for many good offices I had done him in making the peace. That however both their Majesties would soon be made easy; for I had found a prodigious vessel on the shore, able to carry me on the sea, which he had given order to fit up with my own assistance and direction; and he hoped in a few weeks both empires would be freed from so insupportable an incumbrance.
I dared make no return to this malicious insinuation, which debased human understanding below the sagacity of a common hound, who has judgment enough to distinguish and follow the cry of the ablest dog in the pack, without being ever mistaken.
Having traveled about three miles, we came to a long kind of building, made of timber stuck in the ground, and wattled across; the roof was low, and covered with straw. I now began to be a little comforted, and took out some toys, which travelers usually carry for presents to the savage Indians of America and other parts, in hopes the people of the house would be thereby encouraged to receive me kindly. The horse made me a sign to go in first; it was a large room with a smooth clay floor, and a rack and manger extending the whole length on one side. There were three nags, and two mares, not eating, but some of them sitting down upon their hams, which I very much wondered at; but wondered more to see the rest employed in domestic business. These seemed but ordinary cattle; however, this confirmed my first opinion, that a people who could so far civilize brute animals, must needs excel in wisdom all the nations of the world. The gray came in just after, and thereby prevented any ill treatment which the others might have given me. He neighed to them several times in a style of authority, and received answers.

You think the wars and conflicts over oil were bad, wait until there is armed conflict over food and potable water.
This century will be fraught with conflict over the basic necessities of existance.
If this doesn't scare you just watch or read The Road.

Man that guys got some pipes. Never knew what he looked like and always pictured someone a little more exotic growin up.Los Bravos! I knew there was a song I Might reminded me of, well the rhythm at least. You're probably thinking duh not shit that's obvious. But it took me awhile to find it. 1967 .

I think the author is bored with being an adult. You know, it sucks that you gotta go to work and pay bills, take the kids to soccer/ballet, can't do any fun drugs any more. Perhaps s/he needs to drink a few beers (hoppy or not) and go see a live Wilco show! The shit ain't boring!
Word.

Pre-order available here for $14.99 plus $5.99 shipping:
http://looneytunescd...pre-order-page/
Was there ever any news on if this would be available on WilcoWorld?
Edit:
It's a dollar cheaper here:
I went ahead and ordered this and the Dr.Dog 7". I know there was always a policy with ordering RSD stuff online but I guess since this isn't official RSD releases its different.

I seriously doubt the Catholic church would be involved in such a heinous, evil act involving the exploitation of people for financial gain. No but seriously thats horrible but as long as those doctors say they are sorry before they die they should be good to go.

About a 60 year old Japanese guy had an electric guitar with a drum stick taped to the neck bashing a snare,he had a cymbal controlled by a string tied to his foot, a tamborine hanging somewhere else and a harmonica around his neck belting out "Pretty Woman" as only a 60 year old Japanese guy with broken English playing a half a dozen instruments could. It was a concert at Bogarts in Cincinnati with Everclear,Tracey Bohnam,7 Year Bitch, and Poe. Sorry it was the 90's.

Heard "Secret of the Sea" at an outdoor shopping area this weekend and about tripped and fell.

I'm pretty sure if its mid October and your not in school or at work you fall into the deadbeat category.

No. I've always thought this thread could use a good old "please" somewhere in the title.

Art of Almost!!! WNKU Northern Kentucky public radio. I checked my car stereo twice to make sure it wasn't a cd. Great Station....obviously.

About a year ago Billy Bragg mentioned the possibility of doing Mermaid Avenue 3, to coincide with Woodie Guthrie's centenary in 2012. According to Bragg: "There's another 12 tracks that you haven't heard yet. We're trying to get them out for Woody's centenary in 2012."
I beleive Jeff's exact words were "Billy is so full of shit".

I must say having seen Dawes live 4 times in their short careers that drummers hideous faces haven't changed a bit. So it may be genuine. I know Taylor hams it up a little but I really think he belives each lyric he's singing. I'm also pretty sure the drummer and keys player get pretty fucked up which could help with any false intensity. Im a pretty big fan. I think they went a little to Jackson Brown-ish on the second album but North Hills for me was just about perfect.

Yup. I think many people (myself included) are going to have to start showing a lot more love for this guy.
Saw em twice live last week. John looks like there is truly nothing else in the world he'd rather be doing when he is singing that "do do do doot" in I Might.

Kung Fu is seriously killing me. This record has been out for almost 2 weeks and I've yet to receive my pre-ordered vinyl copy.
Anyone else kicking themselves in the ass over that decision to pre-order and do the $5 "cheap-ass/takes a month to get there" shipping?
This internet shopping fad is seriously overrated. Next time, I'm just going to a record shop.
You are getting hosed. I did the cheap ass $5 vinyl preorder and got mine the saturday before the actual release date.

I understand individual tastes and respect them. It just amazes me when people dismiss that album as garbage or uninspired. Its not Summerteeth...its not Yankee, its also not bad.
