Are MJ Lenderman, Phil Cook and Spencer T. touring with Katie?

Spencer is. I don't think MJ or Phil are along for the ride. Can't recall the name of the guitarist at Empty Bottle.

I saw clips from that show...she & the band were on fire, and having so much fun! :thumbup

Top tier of shows for sure! I like the album which helps and (she played it in order) when they got to Tigers Blood, having Finom, Liam and her sister out was pretty sweet!

The jammed GA section with a seated back section of the floor made for a slightly strange experience. Normally GA has enough space for people to be able to sort themselves but the lack of room meant everyone was jammed in with lots of people standing at the sides of the room because there wasn't room in GA.

The set itself was largely a hybrid of Melbourne nights two and three. Meaning no real surprises, although it looked like there was a long conversation between Jeff and Pat around when Impossible Germany got played and the instruments being bought out were waved away, suggesting a song got dropped from the set at that point (would be great to confirm from anyone that has the setlist).

The band seemed to be enjoying themselves, although there were a couple of minor mistakes from Jeff. He started to whistle during Dawned on Me having already done the whistling section, and messed up the intro to I'm the Man Who Loves You. There was some minor excitement (at least from me) when two extra microphones were bought out before the encore, but sadly it was just Leah Senior and band who didn't seem to have particularly impressed anyone I spoke with. Particularly sad when we could potentiall have had a Graham Nash appearance the previous night.

Having been to all the Melbourne and Sydney shows I'd say that while none were bad, the Melbourne shows, particularly nights 2 and 3, were a step above the Sydney shows. The Opera House is iconic, but fully seated shows aren't the best option for Wilco. Likewise, the weird seating arrangement for the Enmore meant that the room lacked the energy it could have had with a fully standing downstairs section. My only slight criticism is that it would have been nice to hear a few different songs. Meant to Be in particular is supposed to be the current single but didn't make an appearance at any of the shows on the tour. Having been away for a month short of 11 years, we got only 13 songs from the albums they'd released in that time (versus 10 songs from AGiB alone). Still, a great tour and hopefully the many promises to return sooner next time will mean we won't have to wait until 2035 for the next tour.

I love an honest review on this site. Hope you had a good time despite all these circumstances!

I enjoyed it quite a bit.  It was not what I was expecting.  I had assumed that it was going to be a play with the actors breaking into songs off the album (like in a musical).  Instead, there was no spoken dialogue at all.  There was an excellent hybrid band/orchestra with three singers.  They played the entire album faithfully (quite well IMO) and there were about a dozen characters/dancers who kind of danced the "story" as told by the songs.  I left hoping that Sufjan gets the chance to see this either in Chicago or in NYC (where it is headed next).  I think he would be happy with how it came out.

Very interesting! I did think it was more like a musical.

  5. A pretty great gathering of 300 for the performance by our guy, Mr. Jeff Tweedy!

The temple was as formal as you'd imagine and seemed ripe for an evening of singer songwriter acousticky guitar masterpieces. I was curious to see what Jeff would perform and what dynamics would reveal themselves as we watched from our seated positions in the various pews. The PA seemed to have been brought in for the performance and held up well despite a few pops here and there and I couldn't help but wonder what things might have sounded like if Jeff went without amplification. I think it might have been possible for a few select songs, but that was not to be.

I'm down with those two song requests and found it a wild dynamic. I would have 100% guessed folks would pick a song from Being There, Yankee or Ghost. Instead they picked great songs off the albums Jeff typically skips over!

Highlights for me were the newer songs - in particular A Bowl (which I couldn't help but mouth along the echo parts), Country Song, Pittsburgh (with the harmonica!!), and Should've Been in Love. Great song selection overall. Also, cool coincidence to have randomly sat next to Vince. Nice meeting you.
