The last smoke filled show I can recall is 05/08 at the Pageant in St Louis. Those two shows were dense with smoke..

I caught one of those three shows at the Pageant in 2008! Definitely in the top tier of the shows I've seen! Probably helped that Jeff's dad was in the audience. My intro to Alan Sparhawk (whose band Retribution Gospel Choir opened) and the precursor to my love for LOW.

Thanks. Wish I had sort of been more pro and planned out the transitions a little better. Part of the issue was I wasn't certain when I recorded the blurbs what audio was going to be available. And that wound up being a problem with a couple of them because there apparently isn't any existing audio that the band has of either the Be Not So Fearful with Bill Fay in London or the meltdown end of the final Kicking TV show at the Vic.

This Croatia one, I just wish I had planned out the song better in terms of what ended up getting played vs. what I talked about. #NotAPro

Paul - this is so well done. Congrats and thanks. enjoying this!

That was from Pittsburgh on 6/21/03, I'm told. Though I don't believe it was announced. (For those keeping track...aka nerds.)

That makes sense. Just released as a roadcase and was a recording I used to listen to all the time prior to Ghost coming out. Highly recommend a listen...

Lastly, the real gem of this set is a rare live solo acoustic version of So Cruel taken from the outdoor Zoo TV show in Detroit’s Silverdome.

It's additionally impressive that they have this kind of material and that it sounds good enough to release - the Silverdome (indoor football stadium which has since been imploded) was notorious for terrible sound.

Pittsburgh, PA / Jun 21, 2003 is now available.

That's a fantastic show. I used to have that entire tour on CDRs and Pittsburgh was my favorite go-to. I even went to that fest the following year when Wilco played and that show ranks near the bottom of Wilco shows for me. Go figure.

I will say this is the first vinyl preorder I can remember where it actually got to me on release day. I've been primed to expect 6 month delays so that was nice.

I'm jealous. I think I saved $10 (at the time) by ordering through Nonesuch. Tracking says I'll have it Thursday. Kinda funny re-anticipating the arrival of this one given all the anticipation in 2000/2001. Remember downloading via Wilcoworld way back then...

Between bbop and theashtraysays expertly capturing the train incident, I think there's one more banter moment worth preserving in the written record from this show. It started when someone in the crowd asked Jeff about why he was playing a Gibson J-45. Jeff explain that this specific J-45 was a guitar he hadn't been using in recent years but brought it back for the YHF anniversary shows, since it is the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot guitar. He strummed a bit of I Am Trying To Break Your Heart and he was right, it sounded just like that guitar. At this point Pat spoke up to help Jeff out. I think (???) this might be the first time I've heard a non-Jeff member of the band speak on microphone during a Wilco show. At least in person, I do have the roadcase from the Notorious Wilco Brothers show where a part of Glenn's drumkit almost hit Pat, to which Pat said his banjo saved his life. Anyways, and apologies if I don't get this 100% right (feel free to correct me), but Pat explained how great the J-45 is at projecting sound "it's like a little wooden cannon". I thought the exchange was pretty funny, but perhaps you had to be there.

My friend is making a documentary on the J45 so this was quite hilarious to me. I scrambled to capture the banter for my friend who wasn't there - here's the video:

I’m going to be so bummed if the CC tour doesn’t hit Chicago for some reason.

That would be weird indeed. I guess NY is in the same boat as Chicago where both got the Yankee tour but not yet the CC tour. Some other notable major markets that haven't seen shows/upcoming dates for CC are Austin/Dallas/San Francisco/Seattle. So maybe there is hope for a '23 winter theater tour. I hope so. The CC tour impressed me more than I thought it would.

Think we'll get an all-band Chicago show before the end of the year? Or maybe a Winterlude in '23? Here's hoping . . .

Well, here's hoping for a Winterlude in '23 - their email that hit my inbox today said the current run is the last set of shows for 2022.
