The new Jenny Lewis is great. I highly recommend it.
I've also had They Want My Soul on constant rotation. I think it's one of their best. I'd probably rank it third behind Girls Can Tell and Gimme Fiction and just in front of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and Kill the Moonlight.

The legs that this has and the money it has raised is remarkable.
-
the amount isn't just for the device. It's also for all the follow-ups, maintenance, adjustments or whatever. I don't really care anymore as long as it fixes the problem. It's like I've taken on a really bad coke habit but without the fun of actually doing the drugs. Or the attendant hookers and the losing all my money and pawning all my guitar equipment, etc.
will they also be teaching her the perfectly viable option of creationism?
Gotcha. I didn't mean to imply that you were getting ripped off or anything...it just seemed like a lot of money.

Thanks for posting that. Grantland has published some really good music related pieces this year. Their piece on the War on Drugs is the best music related thing I've read so far this year.
Steven Hyden is one of the best music writers out there.

Thanks for that.
For those who prefer to read the original it is here:-

It is also worth saying that the 'random' numbers in the text above actually reveal little pop-up nuggets of info when clicked in the original. A few of them are interesting to read.
Am I the only one not entirely comfortable with posting the full text of the article in a post? Doesn't seem right to me.
And Footnote 4 was a great note on Jeff's other son, the executive producer.

This is wrong, right?
Glen was in the bad before all those guys including Jay and Leroy, right?
No, it's correct. He's saying the band at that point was joined by Nels and Pat...to go with the relatively recent additions of Glenn and Mikael (who were already in the band).

This one isn't bad. My one concern about the upcoming album is its length. Especially with so many of these songs sounding similar. Who knows? Maybe it will all come together on the album and turn into a masterpiece.

Spent $1350 last week on a teeth-grinding contraption. Ugh.
Wow. My wife is a grinder and she's used a simple mouthpiece for the last 10-15 years.

The whole album is streaming on iTunes radio... It's awesome.
Thanks for the heads up! I've really been looking forward to this one too.

Wasn't "The Living Daylights" a hit too?

He admits to "breaking" this rule twice and offers explanations. For Sly and the Family Stone:
Isn’t Sly & the Family Stone an “and the” band? “And the” is right there in the name, after all. Actually, it’s not. Stone was out front, but “family” is the operative word here. The idea of different genders and races playing this celebratory music as a joyous unit was the whole point of Stone’s music.Sometimes reading helps.

It's a good read and it's hard to really argue with any of his choices. It does illustrate how bad of a period it is collectively for American bands right now when The Black Keys is the champion for the last four years.

you mean like on AGIB?
No. There are a couple of songs on AGIB which definitely feature quiet vocals, but nothing like what we're hearing now.
The vocals on these new songs all have a breathiness to them. It's different from what he did on ALTWYS and Hell is Chrome (which are really the only songs on AGIB that you could draw a comparison to...maybe Muzzle of Bees too).

I think it's one of the main things that has been bothering me about the solo stuff so far.
-
All of Jeff's vocals in the songs that have been released from Sukierae seem restrained and wispy. It's strange to me.
Is he singing differently? Has this topic been addressed recently? Is it something just for the solo album?

It's really good. I've spun it several times this week.
Gimme Fiction was my introduction to the band, followed by Girls Can Tell and Kill the Moonlight. I like GaGa and some of Transference, too, and haven't really listened to their early material.
Has anyone ever heard the theory that Gimme Fiction's actual track sequence is reversed? In other words, you're supposed to start with "Merchants of Soul" and end with "The Beast and Dragon, Adored." I think I remember an interview where they dismissed the theory - but it's still a fun listen to play it that way.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that before, and I was obsessed with that album. Gimme Fiction was the turning point for me. A friend of mine had tried to get me to listen to Spoon before then, but I never really gave them a chance. Then I heard that album and everything finally clicked.

This album has exceeded my expectations. I've practically been playing it on a continuous loop for the past two days.
-
That logjam is Example #892 of why it is unwise to extend young players so early, which is why we're currently unable to move Elvis.
-
Profar is 21 years old. I've never seen a fan base give up so easily on a young player than a lot of Rangers fans have.
-
Girls Can Tell is their best. But there has been no decline. It has been one strong album after another ever since.
-
My anticipation for this album is about as off the charts as it can get. The three songs that are out there right now are incredible. Britt Daniel is about as good as it gets.
-
I was going to post it, but I fell asleep while listening to the song so I never got around to it.
-
I fully embrace it, but it's still my least favorite on that album. It's a great album.
