I hope the rest of the songs are not like that one.
For me, of the 4 I've heard, "The Little Things That Give You Away" is by far the best. "Get Out of You Own Way" pretty good.
"American Soul" sounds WAY forced. And preachy. And, frankly, just kinda silly.

1. Patriots
2. Steelers
3. Eagles
4. Chiefs
5. Seahawks

Yeah, it's a laid back album of good vibes. I like it a lot.
Great way to describe it.
Yesterday, Pitchfork put up a 50+ minute video that takes place outdoors at Malibu beach. Scenery almost as pretty as the music.
-
"Lotta Sea Lice" is so damn good.
-
SNL cold opening is Jason Aldean talking about Vegas and playing Won't Back Down.
Great way to open SNL after this past week.
-
To the OP, I think it's a fair point.

The 2 new Kurt Vile & Courtney Barnett songs are pretty great.
It's hard to not listen to "Continental Breakfast", along with watching the video, without having a good positive feeling.
-
Also, on the song "Lost My Head There", Vile showcases his skill at almost hypnotizing the listener. He sings for about 3 minutes, then ends the song with 4 minutes of grooves and beats and "hmm-hmm's" and "whoops".

here's a quick Spotify playlist i just pulled together... hope you dig.

I've always liked Vile's vibe. His music/voice sounds so dang cool & hip & chill.
That's a good playlist you made. The 2 you have from B'lieve I'm Going Down are good. My favorite 2 from that album are "That's Life Tho" & "Wheelhouse"...that latter's a doozy.

After 3 weeks, I'll say:
1. Chiefs
2. Patriots3. Falcons4. Steelers5. Packers -
I guess my point is that it isn't a realistic view of where teams stand after Week 2 (and I read the same /very similar ranking from SI). Projecting what Brady and/or Belichik can/might/will do has nothing to do with what has happened in the first 2 weeks, imo.
But, if teams can get ranked simply because of who is on their staff and not what they have actually done, it's a great list!
If Denver played New England this weekend, and it was a 1st-Round playoff game, even if the game was in Denver, I'd guess Vegas would have New England at least a 4-point favorite.
-
How do the Pats rank above, say, Denver? At #3?? They were rolled by an awesome Chiefs team (at HOME) and had a decent game against a bottom-tier Saints team. Ridiculous.
Broncos defense is legit. And it is great. And they would cause problems for the Pats. And maybe, right now, the Broncos would beat them on any given Sunday.
But for me it's simple:
New England has Tom Brady & Bill Belichik.
Denver has some guy named Simien and a head coach who has 2 games of NFL head coaching experience.

Top 5 teams, after Week 2?
1. Chiefs
2. Falcons
3. Patriots
4. Raiders
5. Steelers

Been listening to the new single. REALLY good.

He does talk about finding the right time to do a full on version of War's Drowning Man. And he really wanted to do Pop's The Playboy Mansion on the last tour.
He also mentioned possibly doing Songs Of Innocence & Songs Of Experience to fill out a whole show.
Edge also mentioned how much he likes Wake Up Dead Man.
That'd be a great setlist addition.
-
It had some very Tweedy-esque lyrics about being worried about everything, but then things turn out cool.
This is kinda funny.

The Joshua Tree Tour is worth seeing for many reasons, one of which is the movie images on the giant horizontal screen. Anton Corbijn, the guy who shot the Joshua Tree album photos, shot mini films for each of the Joshua Tree songs. The clarity of the images, of things like southwest scenery or a Salvation Army band, along with the beauty of the images, really adds to the experience.
U2, the veterans they are, aren't dumb. Kicking off shows with a 4-song attack of Sunday Bloody Sunday/New Year's Day/Bad/Pride is a guaranteed way to get a crowd fired up.

"What you once were isn't what you want to be, anymore" is a great lyric.
2 others that jump to mind:
"In the beginning, We closed our eyes, Whenever we kissed, We were surprised to find so much inside"
"Took to long to see I was wrong to believe in me only"

New record, 'Antisocialites', still streaming on NPR.
Released Friday, so I doubt it's streaming much longer.
Really liking it.

This looks REALLY interesting. If/when I can, I'll contribute. Now not a good time for me.
The time period that Bennett was in Wilco was magical. The band could seemingly do no wrong. Summerteeth, in my mind, is Wilco's pinnacle. "Pieholden Suite", I contend, is the best Wilco song ever.
Bennett also added GREATLY to the band's live performances. When I think of those concerts, I imagine Bennett with a cigarette dangling from his mouth and he's playing lead guitar on a Zeppelin cover.
Good luck!

For me, "You're The Best Thing About Me" is opposite of The Blackout...it gets better as the song goes along. Kinda like it.
-
The music is a bit jarring.
I agree.
The first minute or so is pretty exciting and cool. Then it falls apart musically and lyrically, imho.

Pain is an immediate standout to me and I think Up All Night will be a killer show opener live. Also digging on Thinking Of A Place and Clean Living after one full-on listening session last night hearing all the songs for the first time
Agree. Nearly all the songs on the record are standouts. Knocked Down & You Don't Have To Go, in particular for me, took a few listens to reveal their subtle greatness. It's the different sounds and builds throughout.
To me, a really amazing record.

The song title first makes me think of Nora Lee in "Hesitating beauty". Interestingly, it sounds and feels like a song that coulda been on Mermaid Avenue had Guthrie wrote the lyrics. I like it.
