  1. There is an easy way to have achieved what they wanted and keeping everybody happy. Van Morrison did this kind of thing with Astral Weeks live a while back, come out and play a set of "hits"/obscurities, then an interval (if they want), then the album in full. Reservations ends and lights up.They could still insert the string quartet halfway through as an overture to YHF

"Platinum" tickets for these shows were around $400, for a 70 minute set that's pretty rough.

I paid $175 plus fees for front row on Saturday and I loved it. Friday night would have been tougher

Have my Silver Vinyl Super Deluxe and my 8 CD versions already ordered form the EU store! I was at the stage of thinking that this wasn't going to happen. A bit surprised at how complete this collection is on the audio side of things. Thought they would have included the I am trying to Break Your Heart movie as well as part of it though?

Why do you need both? Don't they have the same content?

Personally, and I am talking from real experience, an11 LP expanded version is not going to get many plays in my house.  It ends up being some sort of huge trophy taking up way too much space. (Ripped) CDs or downloads are the way to go for me for demos/live albums etc. changing a side every 15 or 20 minutes gets tedious fast. Presume there's a nice book to flick through though.

  3. 3 day pass $199

    "Friends of festival" $424

    FOF + lodging at Tourists $3600-4100 !!

FOF + Lodging at Williams Inn $2400!!

College Residence Hall  for 2 $585 (3 nights)

The last one was $405 in 2019 which I thought was pricey for what it was - no AC, shared bathrooms, minimal furniture and bedding, but in North Adams

Thanks summerdai - that's much appreciated and I will look at the Facebook page.

I was hoping not to have to drive when I was in the States but sounds like that might not be option.

Thanks again - see you there!

    Yeps see you there.

Believe there have been shuttles from NYC or Boston previously not sure though.

I have an, ahem, special birthday in 2022 so had been considering travelling from the UK to Solid Sound to celebrate.

Obviously I don't know the area well at all. It sounds like accommodation is going to be a problem. What do folks normally do? Is public transport to outlying areas an option even?

I rang the campsite even but the staff there seemed unclear on when they would allow bookings.

If anyone had tips or advice that would be greatly appreciated before I invest in transatlantic plane tickets!

I also have a special birthday next year and also from the UK originally!

No public transport, believe there have been shuttle buses sometimes to popular areas nearby

I have been twice, first time I stayed in a motel in Wilmington, Vermont which was about a 25 minute drive away. 2nd time I stayed in student dorms in town, about 15 minutes walk away. That is a great location but no air conditioning and pretty uncomfortable rooms for quite a lot of money. I have heard this will be an option again in 2022.

This time I have booked a place in Williamstown which is very close but still need to drive. all rooms there are gone, but you may find some in Wilmington. And keep checking.

Would suggest you join the Solid Sound facebook page as they have much more going on than here these days.

The solo acoustic demos are so great. I think they're my favorite part of the whole package.

Have to disagree, I find them rather dreary. The songs are there but lacking the magic that elevated them to produce a dizzy pop masterpiece. One can hear Jeff doing some of these songs solo these days, but his guitar playing is certainly more interesting now, as is his singing arguably.

  8. I haven't actually been hit with import charges on anything I've bought from the states in AGES, since at least 2018. It's weird, every once in awhile I'll have a period where every record I get will have charges for a few months, then nothing. So I just cross my fingers and hope the mail gods will be good to me!

Normally ok if it comes with Canada Post, if it is UPS or something then all bets are off.

  9. Pre-order is up: https://wilcostore.com/collections/summerteeth-reissue

Ooof $51 to ship to Canada, that's insane. Still bought it though. No regrets!

Don't forget about import charges, you may be almost doubling the price! I guess you want the coloured vinyl, but the vinyl box set is $106 on amazon.ca (free shipping) and the CD set an incredbly reasonable $37. I pre-ordered both, may cancel the vinyl later though.

  10. Nah. Encyclopedic information like this should absolutely be free in 2020. A biography where the author conducted interviews like Learning How To Die, sure. But, correct me if I'm wrong, but a book like this is just sourced from already available information.

I don't have the book, but may well get it. Doesn't the author also actually write stuff, give opinions etc. I doubt it is a book that consists exclusively of lists of which musician played what on each track etc

It is also available in an electronic version at a much cheaper price for Kindle. Presumably this version can be updated as new information becomes available.
