I wasn't there last night, but could the person who got the California Stars dedication be Jay Bennett?
-
And I agree with you about arenas, but I have seen them in big places opening for REM and Neil Young and they still brought it. I think they could be an arena band if they wanted that.

Fair enough, have to say I walked out of there with a transcendental feeling last night, after wondering on Sun if that was still possible. It's also harder for it to happen for me when you see many shows close together. That's my personal feeling anyway (was my 5th since summer).Guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree. And maybe we’re just looking for different things out of a Wilco show. But I promise you, I wouldn’t ever pine for the days they played the Chicago Theatre. It’s fine, like I’ve said. Tolerable even. But I don’t see a show there ever leaving me with a transcendent feeling...

Really don't understand the bad feeling about the venue. It is a truly beautiful place in a great location and the sound is stellar. Wilco are a live act with quite a following and have outgrown smaller venues, the alternative could be one night at the United Center rather than 4 shows at a theater. Then certain people would be pining for the days they played Chicago Theater.

There will always sadly be a minority who talk, text and shout inanities. What I witnessed last night was an exuberant home town crowd who stood, danced, sang along (mostly) in the right places. I have witnessed way worse crowd behaviour, even at Solid Sound to give just one example. It's a fact of life and you just have to shut it out best you can and get into the performance. For me last night that was not an issue.

You protest too much about the theater and the crowd, if you are looking to find problems then you will. Where I was (row JJ, left side) 90% of people were really into the show. Was a truly brilliant one, a big step up in my opinion from night 1. And the audience were better too. Superb.

So what are people expecting from this year's festival? It appears to me that Wilco last played shows in December 5 years ago (also in Chicago). Will there be any seasonal surprises?

i noticed that on the band presale there were no ticketbastard service charges. nice!
For the hell of it I chose a $55 ticket for Seattle, top price available. Total came to $73
Addons
$10 Service Fee
$4 Facility Charge
$4 Order processing charge

I think they just include them in the original price you see. They are always there.

I think it's a bit late to have much of a choice (if any) unless you buy from the secondary ticket market. I would say if you are on a higher row downstairs then anything central is fine. Double letter rows out to the side are not necessarily better than central single letter rows.

Needs a long rest. I found it awesome in 2011 when it was new to me, but after hearing it multiple times I came to the conclusion that it's not really much of a song, and the initial enthusiasm the band had for playing it had dissipated somewhat.

Glenn is the "marching machine".

Songs came across pretty well live (Tues in Toronto). Went back to the album and it still seems something of an ordeal to get through. I have said this before, Wilco should do an album of new songs performed live (like Neil Young has done in the past), not sure the studio has helped them on the last few releases.

Eveybody was stood up in the 100 sections. Some crazy dancing going on too. Awesome show!
"This is a song we made a video for," Jeff said. "There aren't many. There will be few more, so thanks for watching."
Obviously they can't afford Paul's fees (and rider)...
Think he said "There won't be many more"

From the (excellent) feature in Uncut, Jeff says "Rock music has become boring to me" and "Nobody needs new Wilco music".

My reaction is joy.
Joy that a new Wilco album has been released, this has turned to disappointment (albeit after 1 listening). This is really "Warmest" or "Hot". It isn't really a Wilco album and I would say it is the weakest of the 3 albums.

Whoever wrote that, I'll bet they sat in front of a mirror admiring their image for a long time when they came up with that line.
It means don't expect Glenn or Nels to do anything interesting on this one.
Not sure it does mean that, the thrust of the review is more about the political aspect of Nebraska. It was an album of demos featuring only one musician (Bruce), I don't expect the new album to sound like that.

Those of us that purchased the vinyl better get a digital copy of the bonus track as well now.
edit- just got the email and we do!
But depends where you bought the vinyl I guess. Where did you?

With the recycling of Everyone Hides, I wonder if any of the other songs are actually from what was quoted at the time as the second TWEEDY album that was put to one side during the Sukierae recordings. Not saying if that's bad or good (except that it would point to the same kind of style that has been the norm for a few releases) - more curious as to whether TWEEDY will every ride again (except for occasional SS appearances).
He tries to write a song a day. That's a lot of songs!
-
Jeff says in his book that he does demos with Spencer and then Glenn comes in and adds his own drum pattern. That would suggest the songs are pretty much finished before the rest of the band gets involved. Certainly could explain the relative lack of variation since Sukierae in Tweedy/Jeff Tweedy/Wilco releases.

You should start with Kicking Television of course. Brilliant live album.

Conversely. not everything has to be free. People have the right to try and earn a living. And it's not as if the marketplace is flooded with books about Wilco.
