That’s exactly what I meant. Imagine if in some parallel universe the tour dates in Sept & Oct were flipped, so that you have the U.S. shows first. I’m sure if that were the case a lot of people would be upset that the album came out after they saw them. And I mean that it seems like we have more people posting here from the states. So leaking or streaming the album on the official site makes a lot of sense to make fans familiar with the new tunes. I can’t think of the last time Wilco had a tour where it was called by the new album title, but said new album didn’t drop until a month into the tour.
Plus, if they don’t leak or stream the album fans will be rabid when it comes to getting their hands on boots of the September shows.
I vividly remember getting the Schmilco leak and I’m fairly certain that it was on the eve of that tour. It sucks that that tour never made its way to Boston.
RE: Star Wars - the surprise leak happened on July 16th. The official release was on August 21st, so not too long of a waiting period.
Official Prediction: WilcoWorld will stream the new album over Labor Day weekend. A couple of days after Labor Day will be the 1st European show.
But Star Wars wasn't a leak. It was a surprise immediate availability. There had been no announcement of a release date for the physical version until that happened. The new album will be released in all formats on Oct 4th, only then will it be available to stream in full is what I think. There may be 1 or 2 other songs released in advance of that though.

I was going by Chez's use of the word recently, meaning the last few albums. By the standards of this lineup to mean "recently", Wilco hasn't made anything consistently Autobahn besides Star Wars. All I am saying is that Wilco has been pretty heavy on the quiet songs with noise sections, with a couple of experimental tracks, and almost no barn-burners since AM or Being There. Summerteeth was the last record to have about half fast songs and even then it's like 6/15. 7 if you count "Summer Teeth". I want to push back against this notion that Wilco, not including Jeff Tweedy solo, has been dry with rockers since AGIB. AGIB has 3 Autobahn songs on it tops.
What are "Autobahn" songs. Ones influenced by Kraftwerk?

I have no idea why they do what they do but isn't pre-releasing records sort of the norm with them going back to YHF? They definitely put the record out before the release date for YHF, AGIB, SBS, and Star Wars. And maybe others.
Certainly for YHF and Star Wars they weren't "pre-released", just released in download or streaming form. I see no reason that they would announce a release date then scupper that by pre-releasing it early.

I think they’ll drop the whole record before August is over. I can’t picture them playing Europe for a whole month with the record under wraps.
I love the new song. It does remind me of the song in Raising Arizona that Holly Hunter sings to Nathan, Jr.
All 3 that I’ve heard are quite amazing!
I recall The Whole Love being leaked over Labor Day weekend.
Not sure why they would do that. It's announced as coming out in Oct, they will no doubt play a few songs from it in Sept, then many more after release (maybe all of it from start to finish)
-
Agree - I love the song, and I am hoping for a Wilco version of it.
I am curious why anyone would expect WIlco not to do a version of it? The first version isn't by them so it is pretty obvious they will re-record it I would suggest.

It would be nice if there was a digital release of this with the bonus track. I honestly can’t figure out why they’re making this damn album so difficult for people to hear!
I have had digital releases of both albums for a while, just needed some basic computing skills when they were being streamed on the website
(of course I had previously bought both albums on vinyl)

I probably would have said "Side with the Seeds" (and they played it!). Love Sky Blue Sky.

Was a wonderful experience except for one thing, staying in MCLA dorms. I expected basic accomodation, but not that basic. Anybody else stay there? Am thinking of sending a complaint. For what it cost, it was basically a rip off. Ok at $50-60 a night, but not more than double that.

Cate le Bon was also excellent. Anyone who missed that also missed Jeff joining her for a couple of songs including The Kinks' Strangers. Wonderful!

I was looking forward to that!

I think they are becoming experts at maximising their income. Tough life for musicians these days.

Okay, I'm not crazy:
He says back in November he was currently doing recording to prepare for the upcoming Wilco sessions.
Thank you, but I wonder if some of that material ended up on Warmer?
-
Yes - they did say they are offering that which is really generous.
Really?
-
If I take my (vinyl) copies of Warm and Warmer to Solid Sound will they let me swap them for the snazzy new double LP with better packaging and bonus track?
-
There was definitely a session at the Loft in, I believe, January or February. Remember the Wilco Instagram account posted a photo of the band at a Blackhawks game? Anyway, I believe the record is probably close to done (or very nearly). Whether they’ll play any new material until it’s actually out remains to be seen...
Would that be long enough to record a whole new album? Surely not.
-
When would they have recorded it? Jeff has been on solo tour for more than a year (off and on), and has released two albums. They only recently convened after 18 months off I thought.

I HATE TICKETMASTER had pit row AAA front row in my cart at radio city then it reset and asked for the password again
Had front row for Toronto, but "somebody else beat me to the tickets". Got a reasonable seat in front block though.

Exactly and some at SS come from very long distances away. Doubt they will re-think but people should make their views known on the facebook page.

I think this is a terrible idea. Was hoping for something really special on the Friday night. This isn't it. Possibly an extention of Jeff's sometimes misguided attempts to engage with his audience. At solo shows this takes the form of "banter" which can be ok in small doses, but ultimately proves tiresome. I want 100% Wilco which means 100% Jeff vocals (with maybe one from John).

Please show affection without annoying signs please. And as stated ir is not their comeback gig. Non US shows are important too.

Warmer
in Just A Fan
That's a cool record, but it's more bootleg than regular release in a sense.
Maybe the best analogy for this idea would be Neil Young's Live Rust, if he never released Rust Never Sleeps.
No, as I wrote above, Rust Never Sleeps is actually a live album (apart from 2 tracks). The audience sounds were removed, but can still be heard in one ot two places.

Warmer
in Just A Fan
I haven't seen this debated elsewhere so if I missed something please excuse - is it possible the low-level attention to getting Warmer into the hands of fans is because there is a Wilco release coming at some point around Solid Sound or during the summer that needs obvious priority? Was great to hear Warmer on the stream, though.
Who knows? But the fact there will be a proper release of Warmer in July would appear to suggest that any Wilco release would be some time after that. I would like them to record an album of new songs live, like Neil Young used to do with Time Fades Away (or mainly) Rust Never Sleeps. Would also make it sound more like a Wilco album than the last two which are somewhat difficult to distinguish from Tweedy/Jeff Tweedy releases.

I think this one is recommended on the Facebook page. Avoids ripoff fees at the official one:

Official releases rather than "leaks". It may be streamable in full, but that takes away from their Spotify, Apple Music etc income in official release week. The shows will sell out anyway, so it makes no difference whether they play new music at them or not. In fact some fans may well prefer them not to play the new stuff.
