  1. If it's restricted between the stage and soundboard area then it's not allowed. It didn't say restricted to, just restricted. I'm sure it means that's standing room only.

Maybe but restricted doesn't mean not allowed.

limited in extent, number, scope, or action

  2. On another note, this is in the Frequently Asked Questions on the SS site:

Chairs & blankets will also be restricted between the mainstage and Soundboard area.

If enforced, this will make many on Joe's Field happy. And annoy a few.

But that's meaningless, restricted to between the mainstage and Soundboard area. or banned from that area? That is crucial

  3. Hi,

I'm new to writing on this forum, but I have been following it for quite a while.

I have been considering going to Solid Sound next year, however I have a few questions that perhaps people that have been before can help with.

First of all, if the place easy to reach? I would be travelling to it from Europe, and potentially only have public transports to rely on. I wouldn't want to start buying the tickets and then find out it'll be very difficult to get there.

On a similar note, how is the accommodation situation near the festival area? My understanding is that it is quite a small place, and again  would want to start planning everything and then not find anywhere to stay (asking early as my guess is that everything nearby needs to be booked fairly quickly).

Hope this is the right place to ask.

    Thanks,

    Monica

It's in the middle of nowhere! Most local accommodation will be already booked however there may be airbnb options (at inflated prices). I believe last year there were buses running from New York City, or maybe I dreamt that. I stayed in a motel about 30 mins drive north of North Adams, I did book that relatively late, about 4 months before the festival. If you look around and see a room available, book it now, making sure you can get a full refund if you don't make it over. You could probably stay as far away as Albany (1 hour) if you don't mind driving afterwards, but the roads are rural and very dark except on Sunday when it finishes early.

  4. Thanks for the codes. One of them didn't seem to want to let me buy tickets probably as I don't have a "local" credit card. So it took me a while to get tickets. Ended up with good balcony for Sat, pit for Thurs and opted for a cheap ticket for Wed further back on balcony. Now to decide whether to go or sell tickets (at face value of course).

YHF is great, but a tad overrated because of it's history.

  6. The link below is different from the one above, & it came from an Italian fan (with an Italian facebook Wilco fan group- https://www.facebook...ps/81904083870/) who posted it on the facebook group "A Shot In The Arm: the Wilco Fan Group".

It's in one full piece (rather than 10 like the one above), & it appears to have no glitches or dropout so far (I'm in as far as "Handshake Drugs"- so I can say, for sure, that all the "Star Wars" material is perfect). From what I understand about the other one up here (in 10 sections) is that there are some issues with it involving some glitches etc. (I originally posted it myself on the "A Shot In The Arm: the Wilco Fan Group" facebook page, after a friend of mine had discovered it, but neither one of us could get it to work...so kudos to whoever figured that part out)... this one is, to the best of my knowledge, clear & clean all the way through...

I don't know how all of this works. I'm posting this link that worked for me, via facebook, late last night...but... if it doesn't work, it's also in my dropbox & with a little coaching, I'm sure that can be shared here somehow too. Anxious to hear if this works for folks, so feel free to chime in either way!

So who knows how to get a sound file, with song separation, from this? That I'm still looking for.

That's better, thanks. File factory was impossible.

  7. About the book signing. We left the line before it started because we thought we'd never make it to the front. We were near the big stairs back in the Shaw exhibit. Anyone know how far back they were able to get in the 45 minutes?

We ended up swapping our sealed poster book for a pre-signed one over at the record shop.

We also got some great cheap(er) merch in the tag sale.

I joined the line at about 11.20 and made it (at around 11.41), maybe a dozen after me did too.

  8. I think it's ok for people to sing along in appropriate place like choruses, those who do every word in close proximity are extremely annoying as I don't hear the act I've paid money and travelled many hours to see

[edit] they are usually appallingly out of tune too

  9. This was my fourth Solid Sound and my boyfriend's first. We had a great weekend! I think it was my favorite both in terms of the Wilco performances and in terms of the other acts we saw. I love seeing Cibo Matto again, and Charles Lloyd's quartet with Bill Frisell was another highlight. Stained Radiance was so different than the other time I saw them. The whole tone of the performance seemed a lot darker, and I thought the dancers made it a lot more intense. My big disappointment was that there were a lot of conflicts with things we wanted to see. We lined up really early for Stained Radiance (so early, in fact, we were line leaders), so I missed William Tyler. We also missed Glenn's performance and Quindar because we wanted to see Charles Lloyd. I've never gotten to see everyone I've wanted to, but this year's choices were harder to make.

I'm surprised to see people complaining about waiting for food. That was a big issue for me last time, but the only thing we had to wait more than five or ten minutes for was pizza. We must have eaten at off-peak hours the whole weekend. Even the line at the merch tent wasn't too bad Friday night. It seemed to me that things were laid out better and flowed better than last time. Parking was really the only thing we had a hard time with, except for Sunday when we came early.

My boyfriend is already excited for his next Solid Sound!

We parked each day about 5 mins walk away on River St, even getting there late on Friday (around 630) it was no problem

  10. My first post, have lurked for a while, seems like a great community here.

I was also my first SSF, and it was simply life enhancing. Absolutely magnificent, can I book a hotel now for 2017? Long drive from Ottawa, but completely worth it and the weather was actually just fine.

Regarding some of the comments here, I was also disturbed by loud chatting fairly close to the front on Friday and I politely told the worst offenders to keep quiet as I wanted to hear the band. They apologized and shut up. I think the use of weed and alcohol doesn't really help for attentive crowds.

Saturday I sat on the bleachers right hand side, decent view and awesome sound. Possibly the best Wilco show I've seen going back to 99 (only 12 shows though). Also NRBQ tore the place up in that courtyard, Richard Thompson didn't really do it for me.

Sunday started with meeting the band (just made it), then an astonishing work from Nels and Norton Wisdom. Felice brothers were awful and Tweedy etc was just perfect, I was in tears for California Stars as it all came to an end.

Regarding queues for food, some of the views here seem a bit off compared to my experience. I had Indian food (twice), Bratwurst, Jambalaya and a Pulled Pork sandwich over the weekend and my longest wait was about 5 minutes. Didn't drink much for various reasons, but Summerteeth brew was really great.
