  1. I promise I didn't pull that number out of my butt. Did I dream it? I read some article, briefly, yesterday before signing on here. I see where your source comes from: http://www.medpagetoday.com/Washington-Watch/Reform/43413 Weird.
  2. Pretty sure it's a shortcut for chrysanthemum. We had them in my hometown in CT, too.
  3. That explains a lot. I am beginning to see the light!
  4. That's me. But I don't have you permanently on ignore. You're all right. I love the feature, and wish more people used it. In fact, I never realized how many people I had on ignore until this morning! I would imagine there is a circle jerk of snarky remarks above your comment, and couldn't care less what they say. Some people enjoy being annoying, but I really prefer this thread for honest discussion, not firing off obnoxious comments. Life is too short for all that negativity. By way of contrast, Hixter - with whom I disagree on just about any issue under the sun - is almost studiously p
  5. Not really complaining. I'm grateful that it wasn't higher. Most employers supposedly pay 50% of your health insurance, while you pay the other 50. If it goes up, presumably, they will continue that. Knowing what a douche the owner is, I would not be surprised if he passed all of the increase on...thereby not really paying 50% anymore... Does that make sense? As for my employer helping create jobs in the auto and housing industries...where does that come from? Because people have to commute and live in residences? Kind of a stretch... The reason I have an above average income is related to
  6. The kind who asks politely not to be addressed by said person. Add yourself to the list, sonny boy.
  7. That is a kickass version of I'm Always in Love. Much prefer the live Magazine to the original studio. It actually rocks live.
  8. These setlists all look great, and the reviews have been much appreciated. I guess it would be fun to follow around this tour, but at the risk of being dubbed a "Tweedyhead." Still, might be worth it.
  9. Your questions and followups are interesting to many of us, and I appreciate your viewpoint...not just because we agree, but also because you put more effort and thought into most of your posts in this thread than I do myself...as long winded as I can be. I am more likely to post more in the music threads. As for engaging that person, you must have the patience of a saint to do it. I had to use the ignore feature here, or the frustration of dealing with it would seriously make me consider leaving ViaChicago. The fact that this individual has never been banned leads me to believe that the mod
  10. Probably the same kind of moneyed asshole who would respond to someone on a message board after being politely asked, "Please don't speak to me."
  11. Nothing off there. I am just observant enough to read the part of my screen that says "This post is hidden because you have chosen to ignore posts by" part. See, I read your posts...so far.
  12. Sometimes people try to engage me on here without remembering (or perhaps without even understanding) that I don't read their posts. It's quite extraordinary. My boss is similarly obtuse. Kind of like the pointy-headed guy in Dilbert. Whatever the comments were, yours are much appreciated, KevinG.
  13. I live in Florida, where our asshole governor completely shunned the ACA. In spite of him and his minions, Florida has had one of the highest, if not the highest, number of people signing up for health insurance through the ACA website. I believe the number is in excess of 300,000. Although I'm not thrilled to see my own rates go up a dime, my point was not to complain: it was to note that 1) the amount mine went up was manageable, at $24/month, since I make an above average income; and 2) it's important to remember that just because someone's contribution amount went up, it doesn't mean the
  14. There are a few on archive.org. This one sounds quite well recorded, but says it's not a matrix. Anyone tell? https://archive.org/details/gd81-05-01.wise.clugston.2218.sbeok.shnf Sounds more "soundboardy" to me than the most recent Dave's Pick, at least on my computer speakers. Incredible.
  15. My pleasure. I agree with you about his keyboard setup 100%. In fact, I especially loved the early versions of Touch of Grey, but was never crazy about what they did with that cheesy keyboard that was used when they finally recorded it officially for In the Dark. I suspect that that sound attracted a lot of the folks we used to derisively call "Touch-heads," but it repelled me. Lol
  16. Mine went up $24 per month. Of course, my employer pays a % and I pay a % so I don't really know the particulars. I just know how much my employer is requiring of me. In fact, now that I think about it, it probably went up $24 per month and my employer is just passing along the entire increase to me. That is the trend these days. The "Obama selfie" meme is pretty hilarious. Fox "News" has Obama creates international incident with 'selfie' at Mandela service on their website. Talk about a tempest in a teapot, not to mention fundamentally dishonest "reporting." They even link to a disapproving
  17. Well, I can't mourn too much, because I would not have appreciated much of this stuff before about 1980 or so. I was still too into Kiss, Van Halen and AC/DC to move toward the psychedelic side...
  18. I won't defend Obama on everything, but in all fairness, it looks like Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt is taking a pic and he's helping her with the camera.
  19. Great call, Shug. Sadly, I could have gone to this show, as I grew up in CT, but it would be another 3 years before I would get on the bus and head to New Haven for my first show. I am going to seek out a downloadable version of this board!
  20. I would say try 5/1/81 or 10/9/82. Both are pretty great shows, and don't feature any Brent solo tunes. https://archive.org/details/gd82-10-09.sbd.samaritano.23730.sbeok.shnf https://archive.org/details/gd1981-05-01.sbd.miller.107437.flac16 Someone who knows more about me than these things wrote "He is using a 'Dynoed' Rhodes piano (see http://www.fenderrhodes.com/history/dyno.php for details), a Moog synth, and B-3 organ, with occasional Clavinet thrown in" on the 5/1/81 show. Any of you guys have the Dead & Dylan "Club Front" rehearsals? Damn, those are some fun recordings. Steal
  21. Thanks for posting this! In addition to some great Dead shows, this guy's site also has some rare Phil Ochs & Bruce Cockburn shows I didn't already have, which is amazing. What a find.
  22. This was one of the things I was listening to the past few days. Other than the (of course) incredible original version, this has to be my favorite version of the song. Just great.
  23. What do you guys think of the Miami Pop release? I was so used to hearing the absolutely great Winterland shows from just five months later - which were augmented by special guests Virgil Gonzalez on flute and Herbie Rich on organ, among others - that I found myself strangely underwhelmed by Miami. After I got through the whole thing, I thought, Hmm, was the Winterland release that much better, or was I just not in the mood for Hendrix? So I put a few highlights from Winterland on an iTunes playlist and have been driving around with it. The audio quality may not be better, but the Winterland p
