  1. Wow, really? I'll admit that she's an acquired taste, but I can't imagine anyone else singing All Tomorrow's Parties in particular, and I also love I'll Be Your Mirror and Femme Fatale. I believe Lou actually wrote all of those songs but chose Nico to sing them.
  2. Bruce Cockburn - "Don't You Leave Me Here" (Jelly Roll Morton cover)
  3. So you're actually saying that you're a lame washed-up sellout too?
  4. I'll chime in on the Joni love. Personally, I would put her at #2, right behind Dylan, for the string of albums starting with Clouds and running through Don Juan's Reckless Daughter. I once posted on the Joni Mitchell listserve that I thought she was the most important female songwriter of the 20th century, and someone posted back "Why female? 6. I don't know of a thread specifically on that, but my vote is for 11/3/02 in Gainesville. That show kicked royal ass, and the recording is decent quality, too.
  7. Sounds like I went to the wrong show when I picked Jacksonville. I can't believe they broke out Via Chicago AND bookended the show with new songs. Aaaargh!
  8. Rereading Theodore Dreiser's "American Tragedy" for the first time in about 20 years.
  9. Used to have a town but the factory moved away Down to Mexico where they work for hardly any pay Used to have a country but they sold it down the river Like a repossessed farm auctioned off to the highest bidder Mighty trucks of midnight Moving on Moving on Wave a flag, wave the bible, wave your sex or your business degree Whatever you want -- but don't wave that thing at me The tide of love can leave your prizes scattered But when you get to the bottom it's the only thing that matters Mighty trucks of midnight Moving on Moving on I believe it's a sin to try and make things last foreve
  10. Sun went down looking like the eye of God Behind icy mist and stark bare trees Inside the dim empty cinema two guys in leather jackets Glance at each other and shiver "They never built these places with winter in mind" Out the window down the gray road You can see old walled monastery Now become a barracks for the paramilitary police I saw an old lady's face once on a Japanese train Half lit, rich with soft luminosity She was dozing straight upright head bobbing almost imperceptibly Wheels were playing fast in 9/8 time Her husband's friendly face suddenly folded up in a sneeze Across the st
