  1. Maybe not, but there are good "new and used" places in Tampa & Brandon, namely Sound Exchange. They deal in "new and used CDs, cassettes, LPs, 45s, VHS Videos, Laser Discs, DVDs and accessories," and, as the name indicates, they will give you cash or credit for old CDs and records. I just picked up Dick's Picks Vol. 11 there for 13 bucks about a week ago. Not too shabby.
  2. Most of the versions I've heard with that go "She lifted up her shirt At the battle of the bands He twirled his sticks She helped him to his van..."
  3. Not necessarily a bad thing, IMHO. Someone at work recently showed me an Internet photo that was not very work safe: apparently a woman who got drunk at the office party and did the "limbo dance" forgot that she hadn't worn panties that day. It was, shall we say, an unflattering portrait.
  4. Maybe I'm gullible, but I think he's for real, and is just a moron. Now that guy baab or whatever in the "Just A Fan" forum, I'm not so sure about...
  5. Okay, I was exaggerating to make a point. Fact is, there's a big difference between a 20-song set and a 26-27 song set...about 30%, to be exact. My wife even commented on how short the show seemed last time we went to see them. I mean, if that's what they want to do, it's their choice, but hell, Bruce Cockburn does a 20-song set, and he's like 60 years old...not 30-something.
  6. Okay, so I know there are plenty of pinheads on the internet, but this takes the cake. I was scrolling through some reviews for Coltrane and Monk, when I came across this total maroon who thought they both sucked (but Kenny G is da bomb! ). Just for fun, I started to read his other reviews, and came across this comedy gold: His name is D.N. Voetberg, and his Rubber Soul review is even better than that. His insightful comments can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-review...blic&page=1
  7. I posted a link about this in the Syd Barrett thread yesterday. Not sure if that says something about me or about Syd. By the way, this ... ... and this ... ... are the best things I've read on here in a while. Nicely done.
  8. I'm sure that those of you who just saw Wilco must feel a little distressed to come on here and see people bitch about the setlist, when you're still all excited about the show. It's got to be like someone pissing in your cornflakes. I understand. However - just my opinion - I'd feel ripped off if I saw a Wilco show with that few songs. When I look at the setlists of the shows I've been to (between 1999 & 2005), most have 26 or 27 songs. Lately, the shows have been shortened to 20 or 21 songs, which, percentage-wise, is a big drop. I know, some may say, "Well, I'd prefer quality to quantit

  10. I felt the same way about Warren's "The Wind," which is why I won't be picking this up.
  11. For those seeking more Pink Floyd with Syd than what has been available via the official releases, check this out: http://www.neptunepinkfloyd.co.uk/hygiy Also some availability through etree: http://db.etree.org/lookup_show.php?shows_key=233224
  12. Heh heh. Me too (maybe because I have a day job, and never quit mine to follow them around!) Heard it live a couple times when it was new, and liked it then, and still like it.
  13. A guy in Florida yelled for "Screen Door" a bunch of times in 2002, and here was Jeff's response: "Sorry, but you came to see Wilco. We'll probably play some Uncle Tupelo songs, just not that one." Then they played New Madrid (much, much later in the show). Sooo, if you really want to hear New Madrid, try yelling Screen Door; if you really want to hear D. Boon, play the record.
  14. Ironically, look what else popped up in the news today: http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB115...ff_main_tff_top Go Ask Alice: Mushroom Drug Is Studied Anew In a study that could revive interest in researching the effects of psychedelic drugs, scientists said a substance in certain mushrooms induced powerful, mind-altering experiences among a group of well-educated, middle-age men and women. Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions researchers conducted the study following carefully controlled, scientifically rigorous procedures. They said that the episodes generally led to positive chan
  15. Does anyone know who the big vocal influence on the Beach Boys' sound was? I think I remember Brian saying it was The Four Freshman, but I don't know their stuff, so maybe I'm not remembering accurately here...
  16. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn was one of the main soundtracks of my high school years, and Syd's music was a huge influence on me. He will be missed, and I'll be playing some of his stuff later to celebrate him too. The black and green scarecrow as everyone knows Stood with a bird on his hat and straw everywhere. He didn't care. He stood in a field where barley grows. His head did no thinking His arms didn't move except when the wind cut up Rough and mice ran around on the ground He stood in a field where barley grows. The black and green scarecrow is sadder than me But now he's resigned to
  17. I think you're pretty much right. Brian did Pet Sounds to beat Revolver, and in some ways he must have succeeded (though more in an orchestration way than a rock way), because Pet Sounds was a huge influence on Paul's Sgt. Pepper work. Brian admitted that Sgt. Pepper kicked their ass, so you could put that ahead of Pet Sounds, but that's about it. There, that takes care of that. (Riiiiiiiiiight....)
  18. Note to Jeff: when you start a concert with a mellow song, you set the tone for the whole show and people will respond accordingly. Rock the shit out of the place with high energy numbers for at least the first six songs, and you may get the response you are seeking. Just a thought. Setlist looks great, by the way...you lucky motherf*ckers.
  19. Exactly. Now, if Ratdog or Phil and Friends start doing stuff like "Cats Under The Stars" and "Rubin and Cherise," it would be a different story...
  20. I would like to take this opportunity to point out that several people on this board called Bob Weir a schmuck for doing Jerry tunes at Ratdog shows, but as you can see from the setlist, Phil does the same thing only more so. Let's give them all a break and let them do what they do, eh?
  21. I got three wrong, too, but I won't apologize. Fuck you, Ann, I hope you choke on your own vomit.
  22. Yeah, but that's NOT why I picked Mr. Heartbreak as a handle! You guys sure can pick 'em.
  23. FZ: This is a piece for those of you in the audience who happen to speak German. And if you do happen to speak German after this piece you'll probably regret it . . . One, two, three . . . FZ: Once upon a time, way back a long time ago, when the universe consisted of nothing more elaborate than Mark Maroon . . . Mark: Oh, thank you Frank. Hiya, friends! What a life! I can't begin to tell you. I mean, today as I was walking here, just like every place else I go, people walk up to me and they go, "Mark, Mark, Mark." (Bark! Bark! Bark!) A hare-lipped dog. "Mark, are you kidding?" And all I c
  24. Maybe, maybe. Andy was apparently a pretty convincing guy, then. I still like her. Her version of Heroes is a trip, too.
