Terrific new book coming out
Mr. Heartbreak replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Incredible. Absolutely incredible. So, if we all just kept our women barefoot and pregnant (oh, and killed them if they "shame the family" by marrying a culturual minority); defined marriage as between a man and a woman; had sex only for procreation; outlawed divorce; and only made G-rated movies, then everybody would be our friend again, eh? Sounds like a winner. Sign me up for our trip back to the Stone Age! -

Don't think there was a taper. There isn't even a listing for it on db.etree.org. -
Happy Birthday, ya damned hippie. "If you get confused, listen to the music play!"

Thanks for that link, as it provided me with a much-needed laugh for the day: the following review of YHF. Yankee Hotel Fox Crap - ZERO Stars, September 14, 2004 This is what Sting would sound like if he were born in Arkansas. Simply put, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is awful. I should have steered clear when I started seeing comparisons to Radiohead, but I was suckered by the positive reviews. Once upon a time, alternative music, and alt-country especially, could be relied on for simple pleasures, and at some point things would start to rock. No more. Lyrics are almost unrelentingly morose, melod

So it looks like the new Dylan finally leaked...
Mr. Heartbreak replied to chriscolbert's topic in Someone Else's Song
Dylan has been ragging on the production quality of CDs for 20 years. He did it in Rolling Stone when he was interviewed around that time ('86 or '87). He's right, too. If CDs were so friggin' great, there would never have been a need to remaster, like, all of them, thereby inducing suckers like me to buy things 3 times (once on vinyl way back when, once on CD, and once in the new "remastered with bonus tracks" incarnation.) -
I always liked Sinead on "Hawaiian Island World." Good stuff.

Yeah, no wonder he thinks America is pure evil. -
Osama, Whitney, and MacGyver

I'm not sure which I find funnier: the image of Osama wooing Whitley, or of him kicking back with his Al Qaeda posse for some MacGyver and Miami Vice. -
http://www.thedeadbolt.com/news/111620/whitneybinladen.php Osama Wanted To Always Love Whitney Houston By Scott Ferguson Monday, August 21, 2006 Why not start of the week with one of the most unusual stories in a long time? It's late summer, Mondays should be full of weird news. How weird? Any entertainment story that features Osama Bin Laden is weird enough, but add Whitney Houston to the mix? We may have a candidate for weirdest story of the year. According to reports, Kola Boof, a Sudanese poet/novelist who alleges that Osama Bin Laden kept her as a sex slave after raping her a deca

http://music.netscape.com/viewstory/2006/0...&frame=true Bob Dylan says modern music is worthless LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Bob Dylan says modern recordings sound "atrocious," and even the songs on his new album sounded much better in the studio than on disc. "I don't know anybody who's made a record that sounds decent in the past twenty years, really," the 65-year-old rocker said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. Dylan, who released eight studio albums in that time, returns with his first recording in five years, "Modern Times," next Tuesday. Noting the music industry's -

Never said the whole world loved us. But at least in the "Pre-Georgie" days, our allies weren't all scared of and/or completely disapproving of us. He has not just made the people who hate us hate us more; he and his administration have given ALL countries, including our greatest allies, good reason to despise and fear us. Heckuva job, Georgie! He gets a certain amount of respect from me: less than zero. He has turned a budget surplus into a monstrous budget deficit. He has squandered our good relations with nearly every other country on earth. His illegal and immoral war on Iraq (and next, Iran and Syria, probably just in time for the primaries) is shameful beyond belief. He and his gang of thieves have wiped their asses with the Constitution and Bill of Rights. He has dragged the office of Most Powerful Man In The World down to a level thought inconceivable just a few short years ago. His incompetence, willful ignorance, arroganc

What portion of your musical collection features rap?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Nope. I have a couple things like that already from Gil Scott Heron, and I pretty much employ the Skip button every time they come around. Thanks for the offer, though. -
I just saw that Monty Python episode again recently ... hilarious!"The Germans are disputing it. Hegel is arguing that the reality is merely an a priori adjunct of non-naturalistic ethics, Kant via the categorical imperative is holding that ontologically it exists only in the imagination, and Marx is claiming it was offside."

Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I have to say I feel the exact same way. Every time I hear it, it's like fingernails on a blackboard. Some of the lyrics may be good, but a work must have some kind of melody and/or harmony for me to consider it "music." I hear little rap that fits that criteria, and what I have heard that fits the criteria is utterly unappealing to me, and bears too much resemblance to shlocky modern R & B. And yes, I have tried to listen to Paul's Boutique. I could not get through one track of it from start to finish. I consider myself hopeless, and am totally cool with that. -
Somebody probably recommended it to him as some good "softcore" reading. Camus talks about women's breasts a lot in it. Also, it's an extraordinarily easy read. I think the biggest word in it is voraciously.

Is that him singing "It's Too Late" on his myspace page? Too weird...

I saw him at a free show given by a Florida radio station about 10 years ago. I was actually disappointed that Ratdog was between the then-unknown Matchbox 20 and Isaak - I thought Ratdog should have headlined - but I was impressed with Isaak's show nonetheless. Did he mention Paris Hilton stealing his video for her new single?
