Lou Dobbs: I'm a Populist and proud of it
Mr. Heartbreak replied to cryptique's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
He is awesome. Every time I watch his show, I find myself nodding in agreement. I even agree with him on stuff I didn't know I agreed with him on, if that makes sense. Unfortunately, he makes people think, and I guess that hurts their heads, so they don't like him. -
Personal Summary Of The Year 2006
Mr. Heartbreak replied to pillowy star's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Stole a few of mine from mountain bed...thanks, buddy! 1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? Start a blog and use an mp3 player 2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? No, and no 3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No 4. Did anyone close to you die? No 5. What countries did you visit? None 6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? A contract for one or more of my novels 7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? 11/7/06, the first day in 6 years I felt hope for my co -
Hillary and Colin Powell No one would dare assassinate the first woman president when it would automatically create the first black president. There, I said it.

Um, they both pretty much seem like douchebags to me ... but of course, I'm just basing that on all the statements they've made in interviews and whatnot.
-
That's kind of sad. He seems like such a douchebag.

Hmm, more like super ego. Talk about having an exaggerated idea about one's own importance in the canon of British rock.

Pelosi: Now, right here is where your heart should be, Mr. Tin Man. Bush: Heh heh. You're touching your tit right now, ain't ya? Heh heh.

Dylan musical closing after just three weeks
Mr. Heartbreak replied to embiggen's topic in Someone Else's Song
I'd go see that. -
It's hard to imagine that just putting someone else in there -- another Iran-Contra figure from the past, for that matter -- is going to make some great difference. It's just nice to see Rumsfeld go, and I think it puts an exclamation point at the end of his career. I don't think we can really say he's resigned in disgrace, but I think he should feel that way! I agree that gloating isn't really the right emotion ... it's more like relief that at least we now have one branch of government that isn't Repig-controlled, and at least Rummy is finally off to the assisted-living facility.
-
I'd love to get in on this too. I grew up in CT, and saw some fine live shows there: Bruce Cockburn, Warren Zevon, Chris Whitley ... good times, as they say.

Well, I have to admit that many of the Dems are not much better than the Repubs, but for a leftie, this is a good (and long overdue) day. For a while, I was beginning to be afraid they were really going to have a permanent stranglehold on our government and turn it into some sort of Diebold Dictatorship ... letting us think, all the time, that we the people were electing them. I'm glad to know I was wrong. Seeing Rummy go is icing on a very nice birthday cake.

"I Voted For A Loser" Commiseration Thread
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Atticus's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I just walked into the office and told my right wing republican co-worker, "Today, you're going to see more Republicans going down than at Mark Foley's Sleepaway Camp." (We both have a sense of humor about these things.) I hope I'm right, because if Diebold has anything to say about it, we may be in the same boat tomorrow. -
I got turned on to them around 1984 or '85 by the same friend who introduced me to Brian Eno's solo stuff. Those were some great people: Bryan Ferry, Eno, Phil Manzanera ... I've always loved Country Life and the Greatest Hits package, especially Love Is The Drug, All I Want Is You, Out of the Blue, and, one of my all time favorites, A Song For Europe. Oh, and Mother of Pearl (which I once put on a mix tape entitled "All The Songs That Ever Mattered." )

My brother was in SF not long ago, and he said the Haight (which was once a rundown, low-rent area) is now totally yuppified. If I were there I'd go to the North Beach area, which is famous for the City of Lights Bookstore. It was a big gathering place for Kerouac, Ginsberg, and store founder Ferlinghetti, among others. [EDIT] I see you've got it covered. Never mind!

KISS Kissology Volume 1 (1974-1977)
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yeah, I first saw them in January of '78, and I may have to pick this up, too. I hate to give Gene Simmons any more of my money, but ... -
Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot
Mr. Heartbreak replied to bobbob1313's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I almost hate to even bring it up, but this whole incident has the makings of an upcoming South Park episode. -
It's not my favorite, but it has my two all-time favorite Wilco songs, Via Chicago and She's A Jar. Agree on the arrangements and mixing. I think they were ultimately a big reason for Jay's being ousted (which has been discussed to death on here, I know...I'm just sayin').

It's Cobain over Elvis as top-earning dead celeb
Mr. Heartbreak replied to embiggen's topic in Someone Else's Song
Not that big a surprise when you consider The King has been dead for like 30 years. -
I was on my way out of the health food store a few days ago and ELT started to play over their sound system. I think I literally did a double take.
