Please help explain and resolve my fear of cockroaches
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Atticus's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
From the Penn State Entomology Department: I was told by an exterminator that if you see one cockroach in your place, there may be a hundred or even a thousand back in the nest where it came from. There are two good reasons to fear and detest them in my book. -
Phil Manzanera Appreciation Thread
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Mr. Heartbreak's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've only got it on tape, but I'd guess it's available on CD pretty cheap. I'd dub it for ya if I could, bud! -
I haven't heard that one, but I've got some other solo stuff by her and I really think it's good. Not too crazy about the song "Chelsea Girls," but "One More Chance" and "Sixty Forty" are great, and I've always liked her version of Bowie's "Heroes." Avoid the (Live) Heroes album though: it's recorded badly and sounds like shite.

I've always liked Phil's work on other people's albums - especially Eno and Roxy Music - but I have some of his solo stuff too, and really think it's pretty damn cool. I just picked up a tape deck for $15 over the weekend (after finally admitting I will NEVER make the time to convert all my cassettes to mp3s or flac or whatever), and I'm listening to my tape of Phil's "Primitive Guitars" on a real stereo for the first time in years. Some of it's very bizarre but overall it's excellent. Any other Manzanera fans on here?

I'd go with Dylan. Petty will probably tour again in a few years (even if he says he won't), but Dylan is about ten years older and won't be around forever.

From a 1972 Lou Reed radio interview: Interviewer: Where's Doug Yule? Lou: Dead, I hope. Interviewer: [Gasps] I went to school with Doug Yule, you can't say that! Lou: Well, I did say it, but I didn't really mean it.

rghammo: It looks like the box set is only missing "Andy's Chest" and "She's My Best Friend" from VU (pretty non-essential tracks IMHO), but only has a couple tracks from Another View. I wouldn't say you're missing much, then, as I don't rate Another View very high, but others may disagree.

I've only got "Velvet Underground" and "Velvet Underground and Nico" on CD, so I am sorely tempted ... especially since I can get it from BMG for 35 bucks including shipping.

1. The Velvet Underground - This kicks ass, especially What Goes On and Beginning to See the Light. 2. The Velvet Underground and Nico - A very close second. I love Nico's versions, especially All Tomorrow's Parties. I'm sure it was quite a novelty in the good old USA at that time to hear anything other than an American or British accent on a record. 3. V.U. - Lisa Says and The Ocean propel this into the 3rd place slot. Excellent. 4. Loaded - Good, but not quite as good as the others (for me). 5. White Light, White Heat - I'm with rghammo, I never got into this album (although the title track

Skynyrd, Kansas and Billy Joel? Not the best music of all time, but c'mon, you guys can do better than that. How about a vote for the most annoying song of all time? My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas Hearing it once is torture, but if that doesn't make you give up state secrets, then how about ... Conga - Miami Sound Machine Who Let The Dogs Out? - Baha Men 2 Live Crew - Me So Horny Beat It - Michael Jackson Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm - Crash Test Dummies Ironic - Alanis Morrisette Pump up the Volume - M/A/R/R/S Material Girl - Madonna Pretty much any current rap song Oh, and if those don't work, d

I've said it before on VC: I grew up during the 70s, and pop was great. Unbelievable diversity. Of course there was plenty of shlock, as in any era, but there was so much quality stuff playing on the radio, it was amazing. A few songs that were once "Top 40 radio" fodder: Golden Years - David Bowie Imagine - John Lennon Bennie & The Jets - Elton John Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd The Joker - Steve Miller Band The Tears Of A Clown - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles Let It Be - The Beatles My Sweet Lord - George Harrison Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin Uncle Albert/Admiral Hals
