  1. I do think at this point Lester's the best pitcher on that staff, though I don't think many agree with me. I know Gammons agrees with me because I'm pretty sure he's said he thinks he's the best pitcher in baseball.

Currently he is in my opinion too. Beckett had a great 2009 compared to 2008. Plus, it's his contract year coming up. Daisuke is really working out to make up for last year's fiasco. If he returns to 07 form, then watch out. Lackey should have less pressure now that's he not the ace. Buchholz if he's around should have a great year. He pitched very well against the Angels in Game 3 of the ALDS.

Basically, any of those 4 guys can be an ace anywhere.

Best rotation in baseball. If you take out Clay to trade for Adrian and insert Wakefield not so much.

(Edit: Oh yeah! I'm so glad that we never traded Lester for Johan Santana. Talk about one of the best trades never done.

  2. You don't pay a 3-4 starter 16.5 million a year for his age 31-35 years.

I don't get why that deal is being universally praised.

but then again, I look at things from a small market perspective where every dollar matters, and that's not the way big market teams work...

I'll agree that that money could have been spent on Bay or Holliday like I posted above, which I would have loved. But the Sox big wigs wanted to strengthen the rotation and rectify last year's signings of John Smoltz and Brad Penny. Compared to what is out there he seems above the rest, of course pricey.

Jon Garland? Jason Marquis? Doug Davis? Not bad.

Maybe he'll be the #2 guy, but I can't see Lester being moved down. Although, in the end Francona usually has a strange rotation.

Edit: I just saw the small market financial notice. Yeah, it's just a big market team flexing their wallets while fans pay big bucks. But I do love the fact that someone like Zach Greinke comes along from a place like Kansas City and blew everyone away and won the Cy Young. That was a great middle finger to big market teams.

  3. Do they like John Lackey?

I always never cared for him when the Angels used to play the Red Sox in what seemed like every ALDS since 2004.

I secretly looked for Chunk in the dugout between innings to see if he was feeding Sloth/Lackey Baby Ruths.

Now that he's playing for my team I'm happy, since it obviously strengthens our rotation. Not a bad #3 or 4 guy to have.

  4. I still have faith in Theo despite signing Mike Cameron. Obviously a 2 year rental until one of those big OF prospects come up (Ryan Westmoreland), but I would have preferred Bay or Holliday. Bay's agent really priced him out of any great team. If he ends up on the Mets that will be a shame.

I do see the Red Sox getting Adrian Gonzalez at some point before Opening Day.

From The High Heat "As the #4 starter Vazquez doesn't have the same pressure this time, plus he is more experienced now. Great Theo Epstein-from-five-years-ago-style trade by Cashman."

I don't know. You could argue that it was due to being in the NL. (Edit: I also see the Braves shipping out Derek Lowe to the Angels at some point. Not sure who is left in their rotation?)

Re: Cashman's Theo-esque deal: There's no way Theo can get Adrian without giving up a lot. I don't see them sending Casey Kotchmann or someone like that plus a Manny Delcarmen. But I did see them sending catcher Max Ramirez if the Mike Lowell trade went through.(Edit: Noticed how the Padres just picked up a little known catcher after the Lowell deal went through. Dusty Ryan) Varitek's basically hanging around playing kissy face with Heidi Watney. :worship I'm a jealous bastard if it is indeed true.

(Edit: Also, around New England the big news during the Winter Meetings was that Casey Kelly decided to be a pitcher instead of a short stop. It seemed like a red flag that Clay Buchholz was on his way off to sunny San Diego.)

  5. All over Sports Center today was the schism between Brett Favre and Brad Childress.

According to a Minnesota beat writer I guess 90% of MN fans are in Brett's corner. Kind of scary. I guess being head coach isn't what it used to be. :shifty

But they did break down everything that Brett said in his postgame interview. They made note how he called his coach directly by his 1st name Brad.

He destroyed the Jets last season around this time of year. If a different team picks him up next year, they should have their heads examined.

Patriots vs. Colts in playoffs: I think the Pats can beat the Colts. They almost did until that extremely sketchy ending. :pirate

I'm a Patriots fan because of my geographic location in Southern NH.

This past week's games were all exciting.

My best friend went to school at Purdue and had 2 classes with Drew Brees.

I think people undermine San Diego's capability of making it to the big dance. And with the sudden loss of Chris Henry I think that the Bengals have something to fight for.

Over in the NFC: I think Philadelphia and Arizona have a better chance now due to Minnesota's rift. I still like New Orleans.

  6. Yeah sure.

    I believe you.

I just can't imagine a band (that's "worth it") coming around to your neck of the woods once a month.

I guess you maybe see lesser known local acts which is great and fine.

I guess to me certain months seem like crap to see a live show like the 1st 3 months of a year.

I can't remember any shows in that quarter except for Jimmy Gnecco in January of 06 and Autumn Defense in March of 07(?).

  7. I wanted to come on here yesterday with my thoughts on this matter, but I didn't want to come across as "Perez Hilton"ish.

But I don't see anyone mentioning the "incident' that caused SNL to do the brief spoof.

Anyways, my best friend was over 2 Saturdays ago to watch SNL and do take out. Just like old times. When it got to the Brittany Muprhy skit we were laughing and surprised in a "where-has-she-been" type of way. He asked me if I had heard about the story that spawned the skit. I told him that I never heard of it. (i tend to frequent a lot of movie sites to find out what gets greenlit etc.)

Once he left I looked it up online. Of course, the source was Hollywood Gossip. Brittany Murphy "Fired" from film. (Edit: looking for more reputable news sources I came across only Murphy's reps claiming that this story was "not true".)

To sum it up: She was fired from the set of her latest film shooting in Puerto Rico for "erratic behavior" and the crew couldn't stand to work with her anymore. They also reported that she wanted to "sabotage the film" in revenge. This was also in the SNL spoof. Apparently her husband got into a fight with the locals before they left. At the time I kind of believed it. Why would someone make something like this up? It's not about a Megan Fox or the other current actresses. It could be the actual movie looking to get free press? Hollyweird right?! Anyways, it slipped my mind until yesterday.

Then I thought about Murphy on Friday night when Abby Elliot (she did Murphy on SNL) was on Jimmy Fallon. She did her spot on impressions of Drew Barrymore, Anna Faris, and Kirsten Dunst (another actress who you suddenly never hear anything about). I was surprised that Fallon didn't ask for a Murphy impression.

Yesterday I was on Facebook in between shoveling. An actress friend had just posted about "Murphy's family must be devastated". I thought oh she finally sabotaged the film and she got arrested. I was completely surprised, shocked and saddened by the news. But f^%cking TMZ was once again the 1st site to post the news. I waited for more established news outlets to break the news and then I came across something interesting. I guess she had diabetes. Then I saw the story mentioned on here about the "flu like symptoms".

Obviously, none of this is anyone's business. But it does beg suspicion if a young woman of 32 dies suddenly in the way that she did. If there were drugs behind it, then I hope that it will open more eyes to the dangers of drug abuse. Sometimes it takes a celeb death to open a younger persons' eyes.

For the record I still haven't seen Clueless. My favorite movie that she did was The Dead Girl (i'm being honest). It's an interweaving story revolving around the death of a young woman played by Murphy. Great cast, script and director Karen Moncrieff (she also did Blue Car).

Ok, this has gone on long enough. Just had to share my weird story.

    R.I.P. Brittany

  8. I'm holding out for us to finally achieve a certain cyborg element of recording our every daily action through our eyes via mircochips.

Just like in Robin Williams' The Final Cut. He played a "Cutter" who edited deceased persons' images/life for the funeral and families.

But if we could access our images and lay them onto Final Cut or something similar we could all access our own "little or big moments in our life".

Imagine seeing Wilco and not bothering Tweedy with an annoying cell phone camera and just watching the band with your own eyes and knowing that all of this is being recorded for an eternity.

    :stunned

    But until then :pirate

  9. Hot Tub Time Machine Trailer

A friend of mine emailed me the script for this this past spring and I loved it. Extremely fun and funny. Absolutely 80s too!

So I'm thinking this could be a great time at the movies this March. Always loved Cusack. It looks like he's going back to his Better Off Dead roots.

Edit: Yes, this was filmed and written before The Hangover came out. Although, I'm sure the success of that film will have different affects on people for the "timing" of this.

  10. watchmen-and-philosophy.jpg

I've had this recommended to me from fans of Watchmen. I loved the "graphic novel" and the 2 versions of the film (theatrical/Director's Cut).

I still have yet to see the "Ultimate Cut" which finally integrates the Tales Of The Black Freighter.

I began to flip through this and think that I will find this extremely interesting.

  11. From the strange advertising it seemed like they all had Alzheimer's or something.

They're eating and drinking coffee in a diner booth in the middle of a flat prairie land intersection and laughing and having a good time.

Is that where men of a certain age go to have fun? :pirate

I may watch an episode here or there on the net. My DVR is full.

  12. Hey, this is a great thread.

Well, I am not in this band but my best friend is the lead singer/songwriter & guitarist. He's on VC, but he doesn't post often.

Bryan Pero & The Tired Horses out of New England (mainly MA).

    Anyways, here is the page.

    http://www.myspace.com/bryanpero

(and another link for people in a band. I'm sure not everyone has heard of Reverb Nation? Great site)

I videotape every time I see them live. I'm working on putting up some youtube clips which is helpful in promotion to get gigs obviously.

Lastly, my friend has opened for Ryan Adams during the Cold Roses tour (June 4, 2005) and he just opened up for Bill Kirchen in Shirley, MA this past Friday night. Not bad at all. :thumbup
