My first R.E.M. show was on the fall leg of the Monster tour. It was the first ever concert at the new Boston Garden which was called the Fleet Center when it opened. I’m sure the people from the Boston area know that. I was upset that my mother wanted nothing to do with Great Woods when they played there 3 nights that summer of ‘95. I was 16 & had no license. I can’t remember when they announced the fall tour, but I remember being super excited that they played a new song on the MTV Music Awards.
Unfortunately, I only ever saw R.E.M. 6 times. 1995, 1999, 2003, 2004 (x2) and 2008 where I missed opener The National by being stuck in traffic on 495 headed to Great Woods. I actually saw Michael Stipe in 1999 at Giants Stadium as part of the NetAid concert that everyone seems to forget ever happened. He was singing next to Bono. I think it was that equally forgettable collaboration between Bono & Wyclef Jean: New Day. Best part of that night was the 1st ever performance of The Black Crowes w Jimmy Page.

Ripple (The Grateful Dead cover - funny singing by Jeff aborted after a few lines. It sounded like he was trying to sing it like a cowboy)
Ripple (sung by Sammy)
Very chatty show tonight with 2 separate call ins.
PLUS, they might shift the show to 9pm CST, so if you’ve been watching it live make sure to check in to see if they changed the time. And it’d be really cool if they chatted with some “clients”.

Today is R.E,M,’s 40th anniversary!
Excellent! Did you see the email from R.E.M. HQ with the pics from their first show? I think it was sent on Friday. Loving the Stipe impressions from Jeff. Would love to hear him do a cover of something.

Susie read my comment “fecal aerosol was my favorite exhibit at Mass MoCa”. She chuckled a bit and Jeff gave a lil smirk. I came up with the comment as an inside joke referring to the farting going on at Joe’s Field, but Jeff’s the one that brought up aerosolized feces from an article that he read about possibly transmitting the virus that way. Susie corrected him and said to call it fecal aerosol.

Some great news! A video of Jeff performing Billie Eilish’s I Love You has surfaced in the FB group. This is from The Tweedy Show episode that wasn’t saved.

Great idea on the Monday reminder about the initial Solid Sound announcement. Seems like yesterday that he announced that from the stage in Boston; I believe that night's show was simulcasted. At least I think I remember hearing Jeff announce it, even though I was not there in person.
Those "Evening With" shows were epic. Loved the mid-show acoustic set, when they brought out the lamps, etc.
Yes, you’re right. That show in Boston was webcast along with the next night in Concord, NH. I was at both shows, so I never had a memory of being home for the webcast. I was so excited that both shows would be available in excellent quality. Actually, I sat behind Grace Potter & her band at the Concord show. And I also sat next to tinnitus (Tim).
-
Sue mentioned my comment last night about “Jeff can wear whatever he wants!”. Haha. I’m loving that he’s wearing the same bathrobe almost every night. I also asked for the Michael Stipe impression a few nights in a row & I think Sue mentioned the Stipe impression after she read a comment asking for an R.E.M. cover. And I brought up that they speak Yiddish on HBO’s The Plot Against America which Susie mentioned because she was talking about how they speak Yiddish on the show Unorthodox. Jeff knew right away that it was a Philip Roth book.
I was thinking it’d be nice if we reminded Jeff on Monday the 6th that it’s the 10th anniversary of the first announcement of Solid Sound which was made on stage at the Boston Orpheum. Those lengthy “An Evening With” boots are coming in handy right about now. Can’t believe it’s been 10 years already.

Kimmel shoots in LA, so it makes sense that they were booked for this week.
Oh, I know that Kimmel shoots in L.A. I attended a taping back in 2006. I should have clarified that I was surprised & happy that they were still going to be promoting Ode To Joy 5 months after the release date on a late night talk show. A lot of bands tend to do all of the talk shows at once. I guess WIlco has been in the other category where the band tends to spread out appearances and I appreciate them for that.
-
Beautiful performance. I was sorta surprised to hear that Wilco was originally booked because they would have been on tour on the west coast. I don’t think Kimmel has ever had WIlco on his show. I know Jeff was on there last year. I’m guessing Jeff might show up on another late night talk show somewhere in the next few weeks.

Jeff just tweeted that he’ll be on Kimmel tonight instead of Tuesday. Just a heads up.
Ok. Thanks for the heads up! I’ll change the date.
-
Jeff Tweedy & Family will be on this Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.
-
Yeah, I’d imagine that Phil has to own the rights to the footage. The music though? I’m not so sure. Their music still makes me emotional too.
I think a Rattle & Hum deluxe edition with bonus tracks and footage is long overdue. I’m sure a band like U2 that wants to make as much $$ as possible from past releases have a plan to do so.

Excellent news! I’ve been a diabetic since April 2018 & I actually feel a lot better from dietary changes and more exercise, so I feel a bit indestructible, but I’ve noticed that when I’ve gotten sick it’s taken a bit more time to heal.My test came back negative. Still need to be careful but at least don't have to do full quarantine.
Sports notes: (this should really be in the Silver Linings thread, but I’ll put it here since folks mentioned not being able to watch sports.) If you haven’t cut the cord, then you should be enjoying lots of old classic games from all 4 major sports.
Today you can catch Game 7 of the 2016 World Series between the Cubs & Indians on your local FOX affiliate. It’s on at 3pm EST. Tomorrow you can catch the Patriots/Falcons OT Super Bowl on your local FOX affiliate. It’s on at 3pm EST.
NFL Network has been airing old Super Bowls dating back to 2001. I finally got to watch 3 Super Bowls that I missed: Giants/Ravens in 2001, Buccaneers/Raiders in 2003, & Steelers/Seahawks in 2006. I think I was better off not watching them. Really bad games. No wonder NFL Network barely airs those 3.
NESN has been airing the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship run of the Boston Bruins. Warts & all. NESN has been airing the 2013 Boston Red World Series title run, but only the games that they won. I finally got to watch Game 2 of the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. I was at Bill Maher that night. I also missed ALCS Games 3 & 4 where I was at Pearl Jam.
NBC Sports aired the best OT Stanley Cup playoff games last Monday. And they’ve sprinkled in other playoff games throughout the weeknights.
MLB Network has been also airing classic MLB games from different eras.
I even saw Wrestlemania listed on ESPN last Sunday night. Strange times indeed.
I’m sure lots of these classic games can also be found on YouTube. Or I’d imagine that your local sports team’s channel is throwing back to classic games during this time period.

I was surprised to see that The Dream Syndicate have a new record coming out in April titled The Universe Inside. I vaguely recall a post from Steve Wynn on FB saying that he had been mixing a new record for release in the spring. For some reason, I thought that my memory had been from late 2018 and for their last record released last May. The opening track, The Regulator, has a video and the song runs 20 minutes. In fact, this new record only has 5 songs with running times averaging around 10 minutes. The second song to be released from this new record also has a video.
The Regulator
The Longing
Also, Steve Wynn of The Dream Syndicate has jumped into the live stream from home movement. His was done over Facebook Live this afternoon around 4pm EST. Lots of skipping & audio cutting out. He attempted to do Dylan’s new song. He’s going to look into fixing it for the foreseeable future. Here’s a link to an older live stream from Italy: https://m.facebook.c...142135415829729
If you like his FB page, you should be able to see notifications.

^ I saw this posted over the weekend and came here to post this, but you beat me to it. Another thing to add to my ever growing watch list.
I bought the bootleg Rattle & Hum “Outtakes” on VHS years ago at a record convention and had a few issues with the playback. I think I found out some of the songs had no audio. I don’t have a VCR anymore, so I’ll do some digging on YouTube to watch them. I know that they’re available on some bit torrent sites.
Also, U2 released a live concert which you can only stream from their official website if you’re a fan club member. But it’s been making the rounds on YouTube. Just do a search for U2 Live In Berlin 2018. Running time should be close to 2.5 hours. Fan club members should expect a DVD of the concert around May. It’s safe to say that the Anton Corbijn directed Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary concert film expected to hit theaters has been delayed due to current events.
-
Neil Finn has been doing the live streams from home too. Here’s a link which is where you can find the archived recordings: https://www.neilfinn.com/fangradio?fbclid=IwAR29cDI4hgtf5Amhc88hO0gyHds3MT3Q5QGwVuzszOeZeAgFbioExFJu818

R.E.M. 1980-2011??
in Someone Else's Song
Posted
I remember angrily listening to the 1st 4 songs of the Radiohead show in 2003 on BCN, while I was stuck in traffic at the exit. I also was stuck in the parking lot until 3am when I saw Pearl Jam in 2008. This was around the time that they expanded the parking lot. We were parked way, way, way, back to the right side. At least when I saw Wilco there with Dylan in 2013, I had the option of leaving after Wilco played or catching most of Bob. Last show I saw there was Arcade Fire in 2013. I ran out during their encore and made good time. Not the best way to enjoy a concert, but I did breathe a sigh of relief when I saw that Wilco would be coming to the venue in the Boston harbor this summer and not Great Woods.
