  1. It looks like several folks over in the FB group are listening to the record today. I’m guessing that they received it early from the Wilco store.

Great interview with Mikael. Extremely interesting to hear him talk about what happens before a show. He also mentioned that they tend to look at prior setlists for each specific city to see what they played last time. I think we’ve heard maybe Jeff mention the same thing in the past.

Love how the album version of White Wooden Cross sounds. I have 3 of the September shows and noticed how much percussion Glenn is doing on it. I don’t recall hearing it played like that at Solid Sound.

I also noticed how there’s also a lot of stuff going on in An Empty Corner. I didn’t notice it at Solid Sound or on the NYC Taper recording. I don’t blame NYC Taper. I blame Joe’s Field. Maybe both tracks were played a bit differently back in June.

I plan on hitting up Bull Moose Records on Thursday evening for the midnight release of Ode To Joy.

  2. Some big announcement is coming tomorrow morning at 10am on WXRT. The detectives over in the other group found on streaming site Deezer that Everyone Hides is scheduled for release tomorrow. Or it could also be a show announcement.

Edit: I took another look at the Deezer snapshot and it shows Ode To Joy being released on October 3rd. I don’t think Europe is getting it a day earlier.

  3. Yes spacehog was the opener also got lucky my show they played pilgrimage which was a real surprise!

Great song! I’ve never heard that one live.

Looks like we also got the tour premiere of Radio Free Europe on 9-11-99. I somehow forgot about that.

  4. This seems like another Anglo-pop kind of Kinks/later Small Faces jam. The Nels solo reminds me of Queen. Very fun song.

Yes. Spot on! In terms of Wilco, I'd say the solo brings to mind Everlasting Everything, Where Do I Begin & Magnetized.

  5. Thanks to a kind soul I was able to listen to the Oslo show. It was my choice to ingest/digest some new Wilco. I figured that I've already heard 3 new songs, so I'm down to get to listen to 5 more. I've played the new songs a lot since this past Tuesday. I wish that I remembered how to do a spoiler. It is very much Glenn's chance to shine. The sounds that he's creating definitely reward first listen and subsequent listens. And that's just from one live show. I'll look for the spoiler tag, but I will say that I'm extremely looking forward to October 4th. Oh, I can say that Hold Me Anyway is my favorite of the 8 that have been played live. Jeff's lyrics and some sweet Nels' licks combined with a cool & playful arrangement make it feel like an album closer to my ears.

  6. Yes, they played Wichita Lineman a few times. They released one of the live versions as a B-side, or maybe a Christmas single.

It’s on the Bittersweet Me cd single. According to setlist fm, it was played 6 times on the Monster Tour.

They also did an awesome version of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game on that tour.

  7. I only want disc 2

It doesn’t look the same as say the recent Wilco deluxe editions that had fully formed songs. These look like demos where they’re tinkering around in the studio just based off of the titles. Maybe there are a few in there that will be memorable, but I can see myself playing it only once. It’s an interesting look into the process, but not something that has repeat quality for me. I’d much rather get songs that didn’t make the album.

I wish that Road Movie was extended for this release. It’ll be nice to have a Blu-ray though. I also had the VHS release. And you’re right. It did have some sort of MTV airing.

Cool: regarding being at that particular Chicago show in June 95. This is what I’m most excited for and surprised about. For sure, I thought that any live release would be the Milton Keynes show that was on FM that same summer.

  8. Monster 25th Anniversary details. Available Friday November 1st.

A five-CD, one-Blu-ray deluxe box set will include the original album, a special 2019 remix from Monster producer Scott Litt, a CD of previously unreleased demos from the album and a complete live 1995 performance captured in Chicago. The accompanying Blu-ray will offer Monster in both hi-resolution audio and 5.1 Surround Sound, as well as a host of video content: the 90-minute film Road Movie, which documents R.E.M.’s 1995 tour, and all six music videos from Monster

The collection will be packaged in a five-and-a-half-inch portfolio book, featuring liner notes by journalist Matthew Perpetua—with new insight from band members—and archival photographs. An expanded edition of Monster, offering the original album and the 2019 remixed version, will also be available on two 180-gram vinyl LPs or two CDs, both featuring alternate cover art originally created 25 years ago by longtime R.E.M. designer Chris Bilheimer. The remastered album will also be available as a standalone 180-gram vinyl LP, with Bilheimer’s original Monster art.

An advance single release of “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth? (Remix)” is available to stream or download today: In this remix, original Monster producer Scott Litt offers a completely fresh take on the song, giving fans a new way to experience the single that launched Monster around its original release.

  9. Parquet courts are so good!

Seeing Squeeze and They Might Be Giants tonight!

When I saw Squeeze last Monday, they had no opener. They were excellent, but didn’t put on a longer show than normal because of the no opener. Roughly 1 hour & 45 minutes. They’ve had some decent openers on this tour: KT Tunstall, X, The Mavericks and Marshall Crenshaw.

Damn! Just looking at the setlist now. You got Another Nail In My Heart. Well, it does look like their set is a tad bit shorter now by like 2 songs being cut. They’ve also tinkered with the order a bit. Sounds like a cool venue that you went to.

  10. Just a heads up, this is not Jeff's performance at THING, he's actually on stage at 7:30pm PDT. None of the KEXP broadcasts will be open to the THING audience either. Sounds like they just have a studio set up and are having musicians come in and do sets just for radio.

Ah! I just checked the THING schedule to see how long the performance would be and noticed that he was on stage at 7:30pm, so that explains it. Good catch!

Click on Jeff’s name to bring you to the YouTube link.

    5pm Pacific. 8pm Eastern.

    I don’t think we’ve ever had a webcast for a show on Jeff’s birthday.

Edit: As The Cowboy Poet explained, this is not from the actual THING fest, since Jeff’s set will be at 7:30pm Pacific. It looks like this will be a webcast of a set recorded at Rainshadow Recording studios also out in Washington state.
