Thanks to a kind soul I was able to listen to the Oslo show. It was my choice to ingest/digest some new Wilco. I figured that I've already heard 3 new songs, so I'm down to get to listen to 5 more. I've played the new songs a lot since this past Tuesday. I wish that I remembered how to do a spoiler. It is very much Glenn's chance to shine. The sounds that he's creating definitely reward first listen and subsequent listens. And that's just from one live show. I'll look for the spoiler tag, but I will say that I'm extremely looking forward to October 4th. Oh, I can say that Hold Me Anyway is my favorite of the 8 that have been played live. Jeff's lyrics and some sweet Nels' licks combined with a cool & playful arrangement make it feel like an album closer to my ears.

It’s on the Bittersweet Me cd single. According to setlist fm, it was played 6 times on the Monster Tour.Yes, they played Wichita Lineman a few times. They released one of the live versions as a B-side, or maybe a Christmas single.
They also did an awesome version of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game on that tour.

Thanks so much for the report! I was checking here, setlist fm and the FB group and wasn’t sure if we’d get any news.
6 new songs is fantastic. Yes, I know that we’ve heard 2 of those. Hope to check back here on the thread for some brief descriptions of those new tunes.

It doesn’t look the same as say the recent Wilco deluxe editions that had fully formed songs. These look like demos where they’re tinkering around in the studio just based off of the titles. Maybe there are a few in there that will be memorable, but I can see myself playing it only once. It’s an interesting look into the process, but not something that has repeat quality for me. I’d much rather get songs that didn’t make the album.I only want disc 2
I wish that Road Movie was extended for this release. It’ll be nice to have a Blu-ray though. I also had the VHS release. And you’re right. It did have some sort of MTV airing.
Cool: regarding being at that particular Chicago show in June 95. This is what I’m most excited for and surprised about. For sure, I thought that any live release would be the Milton Keynes show that was on FM that same summer.

Monster 25th Anniversary details. Available Friday November 1st.
A five-CD, one-Blu-ray deluxe box set will include the original album, a special 2019 remix from Monster producer Scott Litt, a CD of previously unreleased demos from the album and a complete live 1995 performance captured in Chicago. The accompanying Blu-ray will offer Monster in both hi-resolution audio and 5.1 Surround Sound, as well as a host of video content: the 90-minute film Road Movie, which documents R.E.M.’s 1995 tour, and all six music videos from Monster.
The collection will be packaged in a five-and-a-half-inch portfolio book, featuring liner notes by journalist Matthew Perpetua—with new insight from band members—and archival photographs. An expanded edition of Monster, offering the original album and the 2019 remixed version, will also be available on two 180-gram vinyl LPs or two CDs, both featuring alternate cover art originally created 25 years ago by longtime R.E.M. designer Chris Bilheimer. The remastered album will also be available as a standalone 180-gram vinyl LP, with Bilheimer’s original Monster art.
An advance single release of “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth? (Remix)” is available to stream or download today: In this remix, original Monster producer Scott Litt offers a completely fresh take on the song, giving fans a new way to experience the single that launched Monster around its original release.

I will go ahead and call them “Amerikanske rocklegender” when I see them...
Nice!!! I was worried about not getting setlists for the upcoming European tour. #FirstWorldProblems.

The young girl in Don’t Let Go has a dog named Wilco. The film was directed by Jacob Aaron Estes who also directed Mean Creek which featured Pot Kettle Black. She calls out for him quite a few times, so I know it wasn’t my imagination.

R.E.M. is name dropped in Pavement’s Unseen Power Of The Picket Fence & The National’s Not In Kansas. Not only is the band name dropped, but so are some of their songs. Well, just one song is mentioned in The National song.

When I saw Squeeze last Monday, they had no opener. They were excellent, but didn’t put on a longer show than normal because of the no opener. Roughly 1 hour & 45 minutes. They’ve had some decent openers on this tour: KT Tunstall, X, The Mavericks and Marshall Crenshaw.Parquet courts are so good!
Seeing Squeeze and They Might Be Giants tonight!
Damn! Just looking at the setlist now. You got Another Nail In My Heart. Well, it does look like their set is a tad bit shorter now by like 2 songs being cut. They’ve also tinkered with the order a bit. Sounds like a cool venue that you went to.

Just a heads up, this is not Jeff's performance at THING, he's actually on stage at 7:30pm PDT. None of the KEXP broadcasts will be open to the THING audience either. Sounds like they just have a studio set up and are having musicians come in and do sets just for radio.
Ah! I just checked the THING schedule to see how long the performance would be and noticed that he was on stage at 7:30pm, so that explains it. Good catch!

Click on Jeff’s name to bring you to the YouTube link.
5pm Pacific. 8pm Eastern.
I don’t think we’ve ever had a webcast for a show on Jeff’s birthday.
Edit: As The Cowboy Poet explained, this is not from the actual THING fest, since Jeff’s set will be at 7:30pm Pacific. It looks like this will be a webcast of a set recorded at Rainshadow Recording studios also out in Washington state.

New article about new album where Jeff discusses Bright Leaves, Citizens and Glenn. Thanks to Diane for posting this on the FB page. This didn’t come up for me today, when I did a Google news search.

Wikipedia lists the run time as 45:40.So about 42 minutes in total? I'm sure I've said this before but I really appreciate Star Wars, Schmilco, both the Warm albums, and now Ode to Joy being a single LP. I feel like that's a good length for most albums. A lot of records this year (National, Kevin Morby, etc) could probably have been stronger being edited down a bit, IMHO. The CD era ended up with a lot of records that would have been 10-15 minutes shorter on vinyl and probably better for it, glad to see things shorten down, for some artists at least.
I’ve seen the track lengths somewhere else about a month ago. I have no idea where though, but it’s been around since at least mid-July.
I agree with you about The National record. I skip over the choral tracks.
-
Let us discuss the lengths of these new songs that we haven’t heard.

Squeeze at Tupelo Music Hall in Derry, NH. They were just here this past Thursday with a sold out show which I missed out on. They announced a 2nd show on Thursday August 8th with tickets going on sale the day after at 6am. I’ve never seen a second show added that late. And I’ve never seen tickets going on sale at 6am.

I saw this on Steve Hoffman's forum...looks like the Japanese version will have a bonus track...
Nice find! I used Google Translate and track 12 is listed as To Be Determined.

One of the questions that I asked was will there be an opener for the fall shows, since the showtime was listed as 7:30pm for both Boston shows. The openers for the October shows have been announced. Nothing has been announced for November.
I can’t upload the pic because I’m on my iPhone, but you can find it on the Wilco FB page.
Daughter Of Swords - both Boston & NYC shows.
Soccer Mommy - DC, Cary, Atlanta, Birmingham, & Nashville.
Molly Sarle - Tulsa, Irving, Houston, & both Austin shows.

This show is now available as a Roadcase.

Jesus, Etc. at Buffalo Wild Wings in Portsmouth, NH. Not my first choice for food, but most things close up early on a Monday night round these parts.
-
I’ll be seeing it in a few minutes.

That’s exactly what I meant. Imagine if in some parallel universe the tour dates in Sept & Oct were flipped, so that you have the U.S. shows first. I’m sure if that were the case a lot of people would be upset that the album came out after they saw them. And I mean that it seems like we have more people posting here from the states. So leaking or streaming the album on the official site makes a lot of sense to make fans familiar with the new tunes. I can’t think of the last time Wilco had a tour where it was called by the new album title, but said new album didn’t drop until a month into the tour.
Plus, if they don’t leak or stream the album fans will be rabid when it comes to getting their hands on boots of the September shows.
I vividly remember getting the Schmilco leak and I’m fairly certain that it was on the eve of that tour. It sucks that that tour never made its way to Boston.
RE: Star Wars - the surprise leak happened on July 16th. The official release was on August 21st, so not too long of a waiting period.
Official Prediction: WilcoWorld will stream the new album over Labor Day weekend. A couple of days after Labor Day will be the 1st European show.
-
I think they’ll drop the whole record before August is over. I can’t picture them playing Europe for a whole month with the record under wraps.
I love the new song. It does remind me of the song in Raising Arizona that Holly Hunter sings to Nathan, Jr.
All 3 that I’ve heard are quite amazing!
I recall The Whole Love being leaked over Labor Day weekend.
-
I’ve only seen the screenshot of the countdown clock. I’ve watched the video twice and can’t see anything. I hear sound though. It has to be new album related or an announcement. Maybe a single. It is odd that it mentions the WilcoWorld signup page for their mailing list.
Someone over at FB said the new album might be titled The Garden. Not sure if they got that from Tom Schick.

One of the distinguished VC members posted over at the Wilco FB fanpage that he stood next to the guy that takes care of the Wilco Roadcases at one of this summer’s biggest tours. That guy said to expect them when the new album drops. I took that to mean either a.) September or b.) sometime soon with a surprise album drop like Star Wars. At this point either way could be possible. It’s been a bit over a month since the come back shows in TN & they haven’t had a Roadcase yet. Maybe they won’t.Thanks!! Been waiting for this to turn up somewhere.
Someone on Reddit claims the Wilco Instagram hinted these would be Roadcases as well.

Yes. Spot on! In terms of Wilco, I'd say the solo brings to mind Everlasting Everything, Where Do I Begin & Magnetized.
