  1. "I joined the 1972 tour of Europe to see Europe and to write songs (and because I always toured with the band) – endless European bus trips seemed like a God sent time to get the next album sketched out since Garcia was almost always otherwise occupied in the States - maybe a fourth album to follow the Workingman's Dead/American Beauty/Rambling Rose trilogy." Robert Hunter

Rambling Rose, the "lost" follow up studio album to American Beauty: What songs would have been on it?

This post on Light Into Ashes' blog got me thinking about it, even though its not the main topic of the post

This is what I came up with. I decided to stick to only stuff that came out or was recorded in 1972 (don't hold me to absolute accuracy in that statement), so Bertha and Wharf Rat were out. Europe '72 original LP is half-studio with so many overdubs so I chose versions from there when I could. I decided stuff from Garcia and Ace were also fair game. I could not quite decide if the Ace stuff should only be the Weir-Hunter songs or if I could include the Weir-Barlow songs. I also tried to mostly stick to the anachronistic Americana vibe in my song selection although that wasn't possible if I wanted more than one or two Weir songs on there. I kicked around several versions with different songs (some had Black Throated Wind and Bertha and Next Time You See Me) and sequencing, but this is what I am liking best this week:

    Side A

Ramble On Rose - Europe '72

    Mr. Charlie - Europe '72

    Jack Straw - Europe '72

Brown Eyed Women - Europe '72

Playing In The Band - Ace

    Side B

    He's Gone - Europe '72

    Chinatown Shuffle - Steppin' Out

    Loser - 4/14/72 Copenhagen

    Tennessee Jed - Europe '72

One More Saturday Night - Ace

    Deal - Garcia

Care to come up with your own creation of Rambling Rose?

Either Uncut or Mojo had a ramble on rose give away made up of mainly live cuts. I'll look it up and try to get back to it.

As to to the discussion of the film it's sort of like that old story of the bljnd men touching the elephant and describing it. One has the head and trunk the other has the torso. They are describing the same thing but from different perspectives. I enjoyed the film, but I don't have the depth of knowledge that others have here.

  2. Everyone will have an opinion on what to listen too, but most will include Bee Thousand at or near the top of their lists. I like Isolation Drills, Earthquake Glue, August by Cake. I like these because I tend to like concise pop songs From them.

Robert Pollards CD's have a ton to offer too.

  3. "Fire and fury like the world has never seen before"

I stopped reading Tom Clancy when he started repeating himself, but I've been told that line comes from one of his books.

Edit: NK immediately crossed Trumps line in the sand, now what?

BTW the president has absolute authority to order a nuclear strike. There are no provisions for checks and balances with out nuclear arsenal.

  4. I don't know if it was here or elsewhere, but somewhere I heard some one describe pence as being Rick Perry stupid".

On one level can see pence being worse than trump, but in another I just see trump as an f'ing verbal and visual embarrassment 24-7 while pushing his white nationalist vision. So it's Christian domination vs pseudo Christian white nationalism. We're screwed regardless but which is worse in the long run?

  5. Sorry but McCan has never been a maverick. That is just the image he sells. He will be very concerned or outraged by this or that but he almost always votes the party line. I think 95+ % of the time he voted with Bush, nearly 100% against obama and over 90% of the time with trump. A maverick in image only.

  6. Trump is rumored to be exploring issuing pardons for himself and his family.

Upon further reading I found that he can't pardon Himself or named co conspirators. So he can Pardon people involved up until Mueller issues his report. Then he can only pardon those who are not listed as named co-conspirators with himself. Those he pardons can still be compelled to testify and they can't plead the fifth because they've already been pardoned. This leaves them Open to potential perjury charges if they lie.

  7. I made s comment last year that he was referring to his supporters as fans. They still are fans and as long as his fans are pleased, he is pleased. And as long as he does whatever congress (the republican pet only) wants him to do, they will turn a blind eye.

  8. He's not falling on his sword he's an idiot who couldn't keep his yap shut. Besides his dad tossed him under the bus today by saying he had no knowledge of this meeting till a couple of days ago. Of course he's lying because that's what he does.

Btw kudos to the NYT for rolling this story out a little bit each day. Kind of caused jr to provide the smoking gun emails today. I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Edit: in October, after the Comey letter to congress, Harry Reid wrote s letter to Comey. In the letter Reid lets Comey know that he understands that the FBI has quite a bit of information linking trump and his campaign with the Russians. I wonder how long before McConnell and or the RNC get brought into the picture.

  9. Trump, Putin and Tillerson having s meeting with no one else present...what could possibly go wrong with that?

Edit...Lavrov and translators so six total and I guess whomever is listening in on Russia's end.

Edit 2: WTF? Our current administration was not smart enough to even book hotel rooms for the G20.

  10. At Gettysburg this weekend a bunch of armed individuals showed up "to protect" confederate monuments graves and flags from Being dedicated by anti fascists (does that make them pro-fascist?) anyhow it was all based on an internet rumor that was proven to be false. In the long run these guys made visitors feel uncomfortable and one of them ended up shooting himself.

  11. R candidate in Georgia District 6 special election stated out loud on live TV last night "I do not supprt a livable wage."

Hmmm, non-living wages in Georgia, I'll bet kindly business owners could provide food, housing and appropriate work clothing for their employees. The employees overseers would make sure everything runs smoothly too.
