Oh my goodness, I thought the EXACT same thing while watching the interview at the end of the show!!! She loves the camera, for sure. When she shoved Tim a la Elaine from Seinfeld, I just rolled my eyes and thought, "Okay, honey, it's not ALL about you..." I think she's adorable and talented, though, so I can tolerate her acting like a complete jackass sometimes. Heh.

Neil Young! Hawks and Doves. I did these years ago for a different forum (same topic)

Love the band, and the show was even better than last week's Wilco outing. Pity for those who didn't enjoy it!

Agreed. Nels acquits himself beautifully in one-on-one interviews. A lot of times longer interviews with artists seem pained or repetitive, but Nels always seems like he has something new and interesting to say. He's pretty candid, too, which is nice to see.

Thank hell they didn't use any of his music in this ad... With that in mind, it's sort of cool. I won't be buying a Cadillac because of Bobby's endorsement, but then again, I ain't find Jesus when he did either...

Check out Hillary's (alleged) girlfriend

All strong women are either dykes or bitches. Everybody who's right of centre knows THAT. Next. (How looooow will they go? Who the fuck knows anymore.) -

Definitely a runner-up for me! He sounds fuckin' HUNGRY on some of those tracks. I wasn't expecting him to rock me through my roof, but there it is. His voice is in astonishing shape, too.

That's been working for David Caruso on CSI: Miami for years. BA-DUMP-BUM!

Isadorah, that post made my bitter heart soar! Studio heads are generally worthless, regardless of their level of "responsibility." One might argue that their responsibilities entail looking out for quality programming that takes time to grow an audience rather than stacking the airwaves with truly idiotic garbage such as "reality television." Maybe I'm fucked right in the head or something, but the guys and gals responsible for such inventive fare as Arrested Development, Undeclared and Firefly, to name just three short-lived gems, are worth more to me than any Les Moonves or Catherine Po

I didn't even know they had an album in the pipe. Those numbers are impressive these days, though, no?

I've read (and heard) that TV writers get something like 2 or 3 cents for every DVD sold. Yikes. Take it into consideration. The overwhelming majority of these guys ain't rich, rest assured. Everybody reading this is either well acquainted with somebody who makes a lot more money than the average Hollywood writer, or personally makes more money than the average Hollywood writer. What are the studio heads worth, again? And remind me how much cats like Kiefer Sutherland make per episode on a show like 24? Hrmmm. Summin' ain't addin' up.

It is Election Day in the U.S. of A.
TheMaker replied to bjorn_skurj's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Why is U.S. Election Day always on the first Tuesday in November? As a foreigner, this is really weird to me. -
Clearly, you've never tried to earn a living off your creativity. (Sorry. Bitter, drunk Monday night. But that's how it goes.)

Hooray! I'm really astonished and severely disappointed that it isn't showing up on more lists here. There was a big discussion back when it leaked, IIRC, and I seriously can't be the only person who's been listening to it every few days for a whole entire year. Can I? On a similar note, I went to Bon Iver's site after seeing his completely unfamiliar name on more lists than the OM disc. Never heard of him before, but he's pretty good. Sounds a bit like TV on the Radio if they went unplugged, or something. Allmusic's got nothing; anybody know Bon's back story?

If you know of a studio that pays more than the multi-billion-generating NBC, CBS, Warners, etc., I'm sure the writers' guild would love to hear from you! No, it's a very simple situation. The union is at the mercy of the studios, and the studios are too busy making millionaires of themselves and their onscreen talent to even bother paying their creative staff on time. It's practically rape.

Oh, and is it kosher to list disappointments in this thread, or should be reserve that for another one entirely? The two big letdowns for me were The New Pornos, whose Challengers just does not interest me at all. These guys are probably the best band in the country, but this disc feels like coasting to me. I haven't listened to it in months. The other lame duck was Lucinda's West, which I'm still telepathically attempting to have Lost Highway delete from her discography. Lazy, phoned-in, and totally beneath her enormous talent.

Allow me to be the first to very proudly give top honours (or even an honourable mention - say it ain't so!) to: 1. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? Perhaps the densest record I've heard since YHF, in terms of musicianship and lyrical content. It's an absolute stunner, and the hot streak these guys have been on since Satanic Panic in the Attic continues to floor me with each new song they release. And: 2. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga 3. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible 4. Feist - The Reminder 5. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver In another year, any of these could have captured the

As somebody who works in a grotesquely underpaid creative field myself, I'm sending all the good vibes I can muster out to the writers. FYI: most average television writers live in or around L.A. and are obligated to a single show. If he or she sells two scripts in a year at 45k each, that earns him about 90k for the year. Strip away agent's and lawyer's fees, not to mention taxes, and you end up with maybe 50k in take home income for the entire year. In big city California, lest we forget! In an industry which frequently sees onscreen talent walking away with multi-million-dollar a year pay

I'm all for 'em. Granted, I'm all for getting rid of cell phones completely, but that's just me. The sooner these things are in place, the fewer assholes I'll have to deal with in public. Newsflash, modern society: you ain't so important that your bo'shit cain't wait.

Who will the republican candidate be?
TheMaker replied to swirlaround's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
At least Giuliani isn't a whackjob when it comes to domestic issues, so if you guys end up saddled with yet another GOP prez, it won't be all bad. Still, don't forget that when the mud starts slinging, the 9-11 firefighters and volunteers are going to rip Rudy to fucking pieces. They hate him, and with good cause. He's as phony as politicians come. -
Oh no, you di'in't! I thought things really picked up in the middle of the set. Impossible Germany really blew the lid off things, and then the 1-2-3 punch of Too Far Apart, Hate It Here and Walken really cooked. Yep: COOKED.

Yes! Rockin' in the Free World is outrageously good. Neil's practically one stomp away from putting a big ol' hole in the stage floor.
