Has anybody mentioned Alison Bechdel's Fun Home? God, so amazing... I'm getting some decent freelance work doing colours for one of the Image studios. I'd plug the book I'm working on now, but I'd feel weird about it, and such.

Yay! Nothing to add, apart from the fucking stone-cold fact that this is the most hilarious show of all time.

I will pay whoever can guarantee that I will never hear this cover of "Trampled Rose" for as long as I should live the tidy sum of one bagillion dollars.

The watered-down Bach incarnation shouldn't be anybody's favourite iteration of Wilco. Jesus Christ, that's just so, so sad... (There were a lot of open spaces where the music should be, but in the bad way.)

One Great City! Late afternoon, another day is nearly done. A darker gray is breaking through a lighter one. A thousand sharpened elbows in the underground. That hollow hurried sound of feet on polished floor, and in the Dollar Store the clerk is closing up, and counting Loonies, trying not to say, "I hate Winnipeg." The driver checks the mirror, seven minutes late. The crowded riders' restlessness enunciates that the Guess Who suck, the Jets were lousy anyway. The same route every day. And in the turning lane, someone's stalled again. He's talking to himself, and hears the price of gas repe

When Tweedy's cover is barely even the third most intriguing selection on a Dylan covers album, you know you're looking at a potential album of the year. Fuckin' goddamned Mark Lanegan doing "Man in the Long Black Coat." I swear, that's quite possibly the greatest pairing of song and artist ever. I don't know why I'm looking most forward to hearing this, because I can hear it simply by closing my eyes and indulging my imagination. And Jim James and Calexico covering "Goin' to Acapulco" - wow. My favourite Basement Tapes song done up by the guy who fronts what is probably my favourite band

This is almost guaranteed to be a contender for album of the year. I'm practically twitching to hear MMJ's "Goin' to Acapulco" (one of my very favourite bands tackling one of my very favourite songs).

Interesting! Dysart has a decent track record at Vertigo, so it'll be fun to see what he can cook up based on one of Neil's less-than-stellar projects.

You just did the impossible: you not only made me erupt into laughter while browsing a message board, you made me laugh so sharply and suddenly that I woke my dog up. Bravo.

Why do you hate Wilco? Seriously, I haven't seen any of these (thank fucking god), but "Thanks I Get," as I predicted, is dead to me. I actually had to delete the MP3 from my PC, since all it means to me now is "VOLKSWAGON DEBATE." I hate it, but there it is. Here's at least one fan (if I'm still allowed to refer to myself thusly) hoping they don't go down this road again. I really don't need to associate each and every Wilco song with a dumb product about which I could not possibly give a flying shit.

Automatic Lifes Rich Pageant Reckoning Out of Time Document Murmur Monster Green Up Fables New Adventures Reveal Around the Sun is left out of my ranking, because it's disgusting.

Thirded. Not to steal any of Jack's thunder, though. He's a fine musician, and CBI is a beautiful part of the country. Show sounds like it was a blast.

Sky Blue Sky Bonus Tracks are ridiculously good

Actually, he said it might be on the next album, and he said it months before SBS streeted. If it's on the follow-up, I don't know, I'll eat my hat and post pictures of it on this forum. The persistence of this rumour reminds me of the frankly bizarre one that dogged "The Good Part" for months after the band debuted it live. No, it was never in the running for SBS; no, we don't have any evidence that it was re-recorded during the sessions; yes, it's a great five-year-old song that they guys just felt like playing. -
28 - oh, the 28 Club is ruling this page of the thread, yessir.

Yeah, I'll add my voice to the "One True Vine" chorus of praise. One of my favourite Wilco songs, period, and safely the best of the bonuses. That piano figure is stunning (and stunningly catchy), and Tweedy's voice is at its most delicate. His phrasing is slight, but wow, it's spot on. LNGCA is cute, I guess, in the same way that Ryan Adams's "Halloweenhead" is cute; it's just a big, dumb unselfconscious rock and roll song. A little goes a long way, so I'm glad it was left off the album. "Thanks I Get," in spite of being pureed by the advertising world, is a perfect blue-eyed soul song. -

Oh, and which camp are you in? No, I'm just kidding, obviously. Your bias couldn't be more obvious if it were dangling out of your fly. You know what I'm fucking sick of? The high-and-mighty type of fan who endorses this sort of endeavour unreservedly, and just can't wait to use it as an excuse to elevate himself over people with incredibly valid principles that just happen to differ from his own. Look, pal, don't go thinking you're the "better fan" - whatever the fuck that even means - just because you don't have a problem with a song that used to stand on its own two legs being chopped a

When you listen to "The Thanks I Get" now, what's the first thing you think of?
-
No, but we need more "Open Letters to Wilco." You know, so Jeff can know who the true fans are.

Well, you'll no doubt be relieved to hear that the poster called Beltmann and I had a great heart-to-heart about this. I was also uncomfortable with the ad campaign, but then he taught me that I didn't have to feel the way I do about it. Everything's changed now! I watch TV all the time, and I've learned to enjoy the commoditized sound bite versions of the SBS songs more than the full length album cuts! Not only that, I'm thinking about leasing a VW! It's a beautiful day, man.

Has Jeff ever talked about Elliott Smith in interviews etc

apart from "Baby Britain," which is "Getting Better," but there you go. -

If Jack's band were Animal Collective, I could stand to hear him label it thusly. But when your band is a g'rage 'un, nuh uh.

This has probably been beaten to death but im curious

"Black Eye" is devastating. Still probably the most haunting and complex song Tweedy's ever written. "Fatal Wound" and "Wait Up" seem to hog all the praise from that record, but they aren't even fit to touch the hem, in my opinion... I also like "Acuff-Rose," which is pretty much a classic by now, right? "Gun" is kinda where Jeff opened it all up to pop music and imagistic lyrics, so it's a pretty important (and awesome) song. "New Madrid" is always a blast to sing along with. -
Hey, remember when FM rock radio outlets in major markets used to play albums all the time in advance of their release? I do!
