  1. Yeah, I dig that passage the most. SBS isn't really a get-up-and-dance kind of album, but I always lurch my head from side to side during the "na-na-NUHN. (beat) na-na-NUHN. (beat) NAHN. NAHN. NAHN." part.
  2. Can I half-drunkenly ask a totally off-topic question (he asked, moments before proceeding before anybody had a chance to answer)? What's so bad about Real? I love RealPlayer and QT, which seem to be the most reviled media players on the whole of the internet. I find Real is a nice no-frills player on which streaming presentations are reliable and don't ever bottom out during broadcasts, etc. And Quicktime, hell, it's the only streaming video player that closely approximates DVD quality. Other players basically kind of suck out loud by comparison. There's WinAmp, which, my god, offends my
  3. There was talk in interviews around the time that SBS's track listing was announced that "Thanks I Get" might appear on Wilco's follow-up to the new record, but I think we can safely rule that out now (although I'm sure the same people who held out hope for "The Good Part" showing up on SBS will be crossing their fingers in vain for "Thanks" in another year or two from now). But hell, we've got a studio take of one of Wilco's best songs, and that's enough to make me happy.
  4. Seriously, that's pretty interesting. I've sung along to those songs billions of times (literally billions of times, yes) and I hadn't noticed the similarities between those lines. I'm curious to know if it was a coincidence or if maybe Jeff snuck 'em in there intentionally.
  5. I would posit that anybody who won't acknowledge "Thanks I Get" as one of the best songs Jeff Tweedy has ever written probably never gots the Wilco in the first place.
  6. Thanks from across the pond, Lloyd! Ain't technology and the spirit of sharing grand for those of us who don't desire to have a billion satellite channels beamed into our home?
  7. Yeah, they really buried it on the disc, didn't they? Song sounds amazing, though, and I think it definitely would've fit the record. It's a damn sight better than "What Light" as feel-good tunes go.
  8. I got it from the blue bird of happiness (and remote queues), if that's what you're asking, Szabo.
  9. The original trade paperback edition of Stardust, the one that was copiously illustrated by Charles Vess, is a real treat and a half. In the years since its publication, I've seen a number of crappy looking paperback printings that I guess were meant to be a sort of visually abridged, affordable version of the book. My advice to anybody who's thinking of reading it is to avoid those if you can, because they basically represent a bastardized vision of what Gaiman and Vess intended Stardust to be. The movie looks pretty faithful, and I think it should be a lot of fun with a cast that includes
  10. Cheers to that. In addition to Ofelia's fantasies serving as a coping mechanism to help her through her dismal circumstances, they also motivate her to do things she may not ever have found the courage to do on her own (fleeing with her brother, etc). I think that was my favourite thing about this thoroughly wonderful story. God, not to rag on Americans more than I usually do, but why can't American films be this good? I think four of my five favourite films of the '00s have been Spanish-language ones. If you'll pardon the vulgarity, it feels more and more with each passing year as if Hollyw
  11. Watched it for the third time tonight; cried like a fuckin' baby at the end for the third time. Don't care who knows. The most astonishing film of the decade, and one of the best movies I've ever seen.
  12. It's just a mite odd that the shows were streamed and still haven't popped up. I was away from the board leading up to them, so I totally forgot to listen. Blah. I'd walk over my own crypt to hear Tweedy and Bill Fay's "Be Not So Fearful." What a cool guest appearance that must have been for those in attendance!
  13. They're really close, yeah. I checked out the RCR record after reading Tweedy's interview (awesome disc, by the way, if anybody hasn't heard it and is thinking about giving it a listen), and it jumped out at me right away. They aren't identical or anything, but "Hello Sunshine" definitely sounds like some kind of "You Are My Face" blueprint.
  14. Don't you mean Bob Dylan's "Catch the Wind?" But seriously, folks. I'm sure this exists. Really, I am.
  15. What gives is that Jeff really seems to harbour a lot of animosity towards Jay Bennett. It's understandable, but it's unfortunate, since I'd love to hear Summerteeth songs that aren't A Shot in the Arm and Via Chicago live again...
  16. Ha ha. "Local indie record store." Riiiight.
  17. Okay, true or false: O'Rourke sounds exactly like Closing Time-era Tom Waits on "Answers to Your Questions?" Answer key: True.
  18. Seconded. Brown's a talented guy, but I'm an even bigger fan of Paul Hornschemeier. At the end of the day, I guess I'm just a sucker for harmonious flat colours and buckets of ennui.
  19. Anybody else really, really feel strongly that "Wanted" is Jeff's best song on BitUSA? I'm always saddened that nobody seems to have any love for it. Sniff.
  20. Holy haircut, Jim James... Wow!
  21. Weird. I'm compiling a fruity list of Tweedy's best 25 songs for a mix, and it's on there. Towards the bottom, mind you, but it's on there. The melody is stunning, and the way he snakes his voice through the big open spaces in the song is really amazing. I think it's the best song (not) on SBS by far.
  22. The Wall Street Journal talks to Jeff about his five favourite records from the 1970s. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1179540475...=googlenews_wsj
  23. It sounds like a musical period at the end of a song-sentence to me. I likes.
  24. It's also available on other popular sites, if you aren't an Apple fan. Seek the one you- Ah, screw it. What I'm saying is, it's on SoulSeek.
  25. No, no, no. SIGH. For the last time, the list is: JF (Jay Farrar) BH (Brian Henneman) BE (Bob Egan) JB (Jay Bennett) LB (Leroy Bach) NC (Nels Cline) Now stop opinioning stuff.
