  1. Well, it wasn't the rule last year, but I don't think it's the first time it's ever worked like that. I think the rules change pretty frequently from year to year.
  2. Ah, that's cool. Yeah, I actually sort of lost interest in the last round and a half myself. I enjoyed the beginning, but after a while it's sort of the same thing over and over. I was at least year's derby, and it's certainly much more exciting in person. There were a couple monster shots in the first round that were a lot of fun, but as it went on, the homers became fewer and not as massive, and therefore not as fun. I'm still pumped for the game tomorrow though.
  3. Baseball on the radio is cool, I just didn't see the homerun derby being exciting on the radio. I was just speculating though. If you say it's good, I trust you. I'm sticking with the TV though.
  4. Wright is definately the one who benefits the most from the new rule where the homers from the first round carry over. So long as he doesn't completely lay an egg in the second round, he should be headed to the final.
  5. I'd have to imagine that the homerun derby isn't as exciting on the radio.
  6. I don't mind the swearing. I just wish they didn't bleep it out. Why even have him mic-ed while he's at the plate?
  7. I wish they didn't have to bleep David Wright every time he missed one. As annoying as Chris Berman and Harold Reynolds are, they're even more annoying when you're missing every other word. He put on a good show just now though.
  8. bobbob, your boy is looking pretty good thus far.
  9. 1. Tigers 2. White Sox 3. Twins 4. Indians 5. Royals.
  10. Yeah, I guess the Marlins haven't been around long enough to really have throwbacks to wear. The Mariners haven't been around as long as the Tigers, but their uniforms have changed enough over the years that they could have gone with some old school Mariner uniforms, but I'm sort of glad they didn't. Those Pilot uniforms are cool. Earlier this year I saw the Devil Rays wearing throwbacks of some minor league team from Tampa that is actually now the St. Petersburg Yankees. Thought it was weird that they were in essence wearing Yankees uniforms.
  11. I actually saw Chappelle doing stand up live my freshman year of college. $10 for him and Jim Breuer. Breuer wasn't bad, but man, Chappelle was great. I also like Man Bites Dog. Hilarious show, and it even features my man Zach Galifianakis.
  12. We'd probably be here, just not quite as enthusiastic. Actually, it looks like those are old Seattle Pilots uniforms, so not Mariners uniforms at all, as the Pilots became the Milwaukee Brewers. Interesting that they did that.
  13. Mind of Mencia is the most unfunny show on TV. And I don't just mean among comedy shows. I laugh harder at Charlie Rose.
  14. The homerun derby is total wankery. But it's fun wankery. I'll be watching.
  15. I don't think that ratings are really impacted one way or another by who's broadcasting, and so I don't think the team management has any way of really knowing (or caring) if the fans like the broadcasters. Just last year, the broadcasting union in Canada that covered CFL games went on strike. The cameramen were replaced, but the announcers weren't, so the games were broadcast without play-by-play or color commentary, with the sounds of the game turned up. The ratings were actually slightly higher than usual (possibly some were tuning in for the novelty factor, but obviously it wasn't turn
  16. Of course the local broadcasters are going to be in favor of their team, but there's a difference between rooting for their team to succeed and thinking that any call that goes against them is wrong. As for the Tigers guys, yeah, they're pretty boring. Mario Impemba does the job pretty well I guess, but isn't very exciting. Rod Allen can be pretty entertaining from time to time, but he also occassionally has trouble expressing his thoughts clearly, and from time to time will come out of nowhere with something totally whacky that makes no sense at all. They aren't as homerish as Hawk and
  17. I agree. Scully is awesome. Last year we had the Extra Innings Pass and I watched Dodgers games all the time, pretty much just because of Scully. He doesn't even need a color guy -- he handles it all himself. Sort of reminded me of Ernie Harwell, who I grew up listening to. I miss Ernie's broadcasts. He makes the game far less interesting, IMO. Yes, he's a huge fan of the team, but that doesn't always make it a more enjoyable broadcast. He adds exactly nothing as far as knowledge of the game goes (I'm not saying he doesn't have knowledge of the game, I'm just saying, if he does,
  18. It was okay. Those sketches were definately funny. Not the best ever, but not the worst either. I'll watch the other two episodes for sure.
  19. God, Hawk and DJ drive me absolutely crazy. At first I thought it was just because I was rooting against the Sox (and the first time I watched them was when they were playing the Tigers). But gradually I realized that those guys really are horrible, way beyond simply being for the team that I'm rooting against. I hate most sports broadcasters, but those guys are the worst, hands down. Hawk is even worse than Joe Morgan or Tim McCarver (although it's pretty close).
  20. I disagree. My team has a better record than the White Sox. The Sox may be better in the end, but to assert that they are "much" better is insane. Lots of Red Sox fans here too, and I don't think the White Sox are all that much better than the Red Sox either.
  21. The ending to that game made me feel sad inside.
