  1. I remember being very disappointed when Pavano signed with the Yankees because I had wanted the Tigers to sign him so badly. I no longer feel that way.
  2. Just got back. Great show. Mission of Burma didn't disappoint me at all. Glenn's set was also spectacular as expected. Jeff was there as well. I saw him chatting it up with some folks while his kids ran around. Cute.
  3. Certainly better, but not substantially so, again considering the imminent returns of Sheffield and Matsui. They still have all sorts of needs when it comes to pitching, and unless they do something about that, they still won't be winning the World Series. That being said, the pitching market is pretty weak this year, and so I guess they had to improve in any area where they had the opportunity, since their biggest needs simply can't be filled this year.
  4. It hasn't rained here at all...only a few miles away from the festival...it would sort of make me really really happy if it's raining when I get down there though. I wouldn't mind a little rain to cool things down. I'm not headed down there for a bit longer still though...I just want to get ther early enough to scout out a good spot for Mission of Burma.
  5. 24 year old dude. I live on the north side of Chicago, grew up in the Detroit area, did 4 years in Ann Arbor. Currently working as a Customer Service Rep. Wanna do some museum work eventually. I play guitar. In A2 I was in a band called Prison Rodeo. Working on developing my new band, Grunt, into something that can adaquately conquer the big city. I first heard Wilco back when A.M. came out, when I saw the video for "Box Full of Letters" on MTV's 120 Minutes. I didn't really get into them, however, until around the time of YHF. Other favorites besides Wilco: The Velvet Undergroun
  6. Yeah, that's a pretty questionable move, especially since Matsui and Sheffield will both be back for the heat of the pennant race. Whatever--a boner move by the Yankees is fine by me.
  7. Silver Jews were the highlight of the day for me. I'm totally fucking pooped though. I'm gonna get there a little bit later tomorrow, as there's 5 straight hours at the end of the day tomorrow that I'm going to be hyped up for (Mission of Burma, Glenn Kotche, Yo La Tengo, Spoon, Os Mutantes).
  8. The argument against the estate tax that it has already been taxed is ridiculous. Every tax is on money that has already been taxed at some point. When you pay sales tax, you're using money that was already taxed when you earned it, for example. The main difference is that the money being taxed under the estate tax was not earned. It's a completely false (and intentionally misleading by those who first used it) argument.
  9. Dude, I gave up on the Lions at least 5 years ago, and it shouldn't have taken that long. There's no reason to hold onto any hope for the Lions so long as the Fords still own the team.
  10. Well, his hype was pretty small compared to Verlander and Zumaya (and I guess Sanchez, who is still in AAA). But the lack of hype was not for lack of expectations, it was just because the Tigers are so loaded with young pitching right now. A couple years from now, he could be the best #3 starter in the game (behind Verlander and Bonderman). Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up ahead of Bonderman in the rotation either. He's going to be very, very good. Not to suggest he's going to be as good as Liriano. He's not. But I think both guys are going to be good enough, and both teams may be g
  11. See y'all tomorrow and the next day. Word.
  12. Oh man. Liriano vs. Miner may turn out to be a classic match up a few years down the road. Liriano had more strikeouts, but both were pretty damn solid tonight.
  13. I go down to Lincoln Park to drink occassionally, but it doesn't strike me as a great place to raise a family. When I have kids, I think I'm going to want them to be around a few less drunken frat boys than Lincoln Park provides.
  14. You could always just rip it to a DVD too, eh? My brother tells me that they just started airing Arrested Development in Botswana. No hot water be damned, I'm still jealous that he gets to watch it (even if it is just the reruns).
  15. I'll take the rain over the heat. Could be miserable if it's going to be that hot. A little rain might at least cool it down some. Regardless, ain't nothin' keepin' me away from Mission of Burma.
  16. I bet at least a couple of the Spice Girls smoke pot.
  17. Wow, I would have never seen this announcement coming. Anyway, good for Lance. He should be proud of who he is. Well...proud of his sexual identity anyway. He shouldn't be proud of his music. Whatever happened to him being an astronaut?
  18. If you drop a phonograph needle on Papelbon's nipple, it plays the Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds.' He sweats Gatorade. Jonathan Papelbon once showed me a video of him making love to my wife and it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw. I once saw him scissor kick Angela Lansbury. They use Papelbon's foreskin as a tarp when it rains at Fenway Park. Jonathan Papelbon is a son of a bitch! To Jonathan Papelbon!
  19. Manager of the Year = Derek Jeter. Cy Young Award too.
  20. I don't see how the Marlins making the wild card would impact Cabrera's MVP bid much, but yeah, Girardi would have a good case.
  21. They're sure making a run at it. Now down 8-7 in the 4th. Wow.
  22. Keep in mind that the list was compiled by a British publication. The Stone Roses did not make much of an impact here in the United States, bu they truly were one of the more important and influential bands in the UK for a time.
  23. I'll be there for both days. Most excited (by far) for Mission of Burma.
  24. Two-thirds of an inning, 3/2 BB/K, 7 earned runs. Not exactly the start I was hoping for from Kenny Rogers tonight.
