  1. See I'm a dreamer, man, and when I was a cook I'd always work with people who weren't dreamers. Like, I was cooking at this restaurant and I put a hot dog on the grill and my kitchen manager came over, and he said, "Mitch, put the hot dog up here, in the right hand corner of the grill, so in case you get a whole bunch of orders at once you have all this space available." See that's how I knew he wasn't a dreamer, 'cause the day I give up my dreams is the day I have strategic grill locations. A dreamer has a philosophy: The entire grill is hot.

  2. Yeah, but you think Springsteen is the greatest thing ever so...

I notice nobody has thrown out Dylan even ironically.  Is that the one artist you can't argue about?

No...I don't think Springsteen is the greatest thing ever. However, I view his first 7 records as being one of the best 12 year runs in history. Everything after 1984 is definitely hit and miss.

If you get right down to it, there are bands that are beyond the simple judgment of the individual; History has spoken: Springsteen, Dylan, The Beatles, The Grateful Dead (although I really don't get 'em, I understand why they are acclaimed and loved).

  3. Nirvana - yes

    Kiss - yes

    The Replacements - Yes

    Hall and Oates - Yes

Paul Butterfield Blues Band - No

    Chic - No

    Deep Purple - Yes

    Peter Gabriel - No

    LL Cool J - No

    N.W.A. - Yes

    Link Wray - Yes

    The Meters - Yes

    Linda Ronstadt - No

    Cat Stevens - No

    Yes - Yes

    The Zombies - No

I agree with almost every single vote here...I would add Linda Rondstadt because she was simply the biggest female recording artist of the 1970's, and I don't think you can tell the story of the music without her.

  4. A guy who can afford to have four kids in the first place and also live in a nice house with nice cars hano business complaining s about his financial situation. What kind of work does his wife do, I wonder?

I wanted to read this again  to see if it was as bad as it seemed in the original post.

    It is.

  5. The Tigers contract was more about Illitch being haunted by a chess-match-offering Reaper, plus Illitch inventing his own legend about this kid whom he used to see hitting homeruns while the kid's papa played for the Tigers, plus Illitch just wanting one cot-damned ring before he croaks.

There's no way Fielder will live up to that contract, but as a fan, I don't really care. Illitch can spend his money any way he wants. It's the first time the Tigers have been in the post-season 3 straight years since Ty Cobb graced their roster, and that's pretty, pretty, pretty good.

No matter how bad Fielder's contract is and how crazy Illitch is, it will never match the insanity of Pujols' and Hamilton's contracts and Arte Moreno batshit crazy moves in the last two years.

Not even going to bring up the CJ Wilson contract.

  6. I don't know about stumbling into the playoffs. They went 11-4 to clinch the division, then sent in their b-squad to play out the season against the Marlins.

But their bullpen, yes. Poor. They'll be leaning heavily on their starting rotation, which is the best in either league.

By stumbling into the playoffs I was referring to getting NO HIT on the final game of the season. May have been the b-squad, but pride should have counted for something there.

As much as I respect and admire Leyland, I wonder about him at times.

And what's the deal with Fielder? Any idea what is up with him?

  7. Wild card:

    Pirates over Reds

    Indians over Rays

    ALDS:

    Tigers over As

    Redsox over Indians

    NLDS

    Cards over Pirates

    Dodgers over Braves

    ALCS

    Tigers over Redsox

    NLCS

    Cards over Dodgers

    World Series

    Tigers over Cards

I don't see the tigers in the series. Stumbling  into the playoff...poor bullpen...

  8. Really interested to see how things work themselves out.

This has been a really fascinating ride. There are NO innocent parties here (outside of maybe Flynn and Holly).

Walt has just turned out to descend to being the worst of them all.

As I have said: a morality play with no innocents; just varying degrees of guilt.
