  1. Sometimes it can be really fun sitting next to a Bruce newbie at a concert. He broke out BECAUSE THE NIGHT at a Dallas show and there were complaints that he was covering a Patty Smith song (at least they didn't attribute it to natalie Merchant).
  2. Maybe we should require her to have a webcam going on the 14 younguns and her. Nothing like watching batshit crazy if it isn't firsthand in your own house.
  3. Nothing exists in a vacuum. We all bring a set of baggage to the table. However, I do believe that quality is somewhat immutable. My 14-year old son is a prime example. He is exploring my cd/record collection and arriving at certain clear opinions that have nothing to do with the original expectations and baggage that these recordings had at the time of their release. He devoured Born to Run. Was he influenced by the fact that his dad (me) is a Bruce Tramp? Dunno. But one must assume that there some enduring quality to records/cds/albums that are perennially favorites. Are his opinions devoi
  4. To me, it is a picture perfect post card of 1976. Born to Run, Desire...all about time and place.
  5. Kinda shitty that the Blogger is apparently trying to tie Bruce to the Tickermaster fiasco. Bruce has gone to extraordinary lenghts in the past to defeat the ticket brokers.
  6. edit: I would say that Desire is really acoustic record. I consider any record with no electric guitars to be acoustic. Additionally...Desire kicks major ass. I must say that Oh Mercy has really grown on me over the last two years. The Lanois production really fits that set of songs. +++
  7. There's an interesting thing happening in the Springsteen trading world. For years, there were rumors of UberFans who had high quality resocrings of early shows. Reportedly theseUberFans did not circulate their tapes as they were adverse to the music showing up for sale at those outrageous prices on bootlegs. Now, with the advent of and proliferation of BitTorrent sites, these recordings are becoming available. Now those legendary Main Point shows from 1974 are fully available in great clarity (for 34 year old recordings). Now every Bottom Line show from 1975 is available. It is great having
  8. I remembered scoring this on a cd in 1996. Thought I had found the holy grail. Now it can be downloaded with ease from a torrent site. Bootlegs (be they live recordings or lost studio stuff) have lost a bit of their luster as they become so easily available. I remember joining boot trees and waiting anxioulsly to see what leaf I was sending blanks in mailer pacs. The often poor sound of these boots didn't matter very much: it was an actual recording of a LIVE SHOW!!! Now...you can get every show from every band from a current tour (often in multiple sources). It just isn't very exciting an
  9. Worst customer service on the face of the earth.
  10. Incidentally...here is the track listing for the shelved 1979 album THE TIE THAT BIND 01 - The Ties That Bind 02 - Cindy 03 - Hungry Heart 04 - Stolen Car 05 - To Be True ---we know as "Be True" 06 - The River 07 - You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch) --- Rockabilly version 08 - The Price You Pay 09 - I Wanna Marry You 10 - Loose Ends
  11. Aikman was always a standup guy where he played here. A nice story.
  12. I don't know...i just kinda expected BB to be able to figure out the Bo Diddley beat
  13. What I find truly amazing about THE RIVER is the quality material that didn't make it... Roulette Dollhouse Where The Bands Are the amazing Loose Ends Take 'Em As They Come Be True (althought it did make an appearance as a B-side) I Wanna Be With You the rockabilly version of You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch) the 'son you may kiss the bride version of Stolen Car Cindy which has never officially appeared but is on the boot THE TIE THAT BIND which is purportedly a rough mix of an aborted album slated for a late November 1979 release. This would have been a killer release...
  14. Perchance have you read the online article about hipsters?
  15. The River ... that is one m-fer of a record. A real melange of moods, styles, tones and voicings. It is akin to the White Album in its varied styles and approaches...but they were all Bruce songs. He goes from the silliness of the frat rocker Sherry Darling to the starkness of Drive all Night. Personally, I was drawn in by the opening bars of The Ties that Bind. This album could have been as huge as Born in the USA, but it was blown off course with the choice of the second single. Fade Away was a terrible choice for a second single. It effectively killed all the momentum that Hungry Hea
  16. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about...MR. CROW...lol
  17. Just think...one day, somebody will be posting on the equivalent of the internet expressing nostalgia for the good old days of:
  18. I know... But I am most heartened by his coming Remastering of Darkness. This bodes very well for the future. Although I don't know what can be done for The River...that is one sprawling record...a classic, but a mess. Not in its scizophrenic mix of styles...that is part of its charm...akin to the White Album. I am talking about the sloppily recorded live takes in the studio.
  19. Bruce would have been much better served if he had actually had a producer on that record. Jon Landau has had to have ruined more records than any producer ever. ( I know...that is hyperbole in the extreme. But DotEoT, The River and Born in the USA are poorly produced records.)
  20. Like every other thread in the history of the internets.
  21. Only once. Had a chance to talk Springsteen with Redbeard (local radio legend in Dallas) in 1995.
  22. Because it is the one common ground I have in viewing television with Downtown. She's all over that stuff.
  23. You've heard of Adele but you've never heard of Duffy? How the heck do I know who Duffy is? Seriously. I don't understand the flavor of the month thing anymore. I'm sure we've BOTH EVERYBODY has heard of the Jonas Brothers...why didn't they win? I just watched the grammies because I was tired of the Food Network and The NFL Channel.
  24. For some strange reason...Ithink you may be serious. Even I have heard of Duffy. Which is why I was asking about Adele.
