I disagree. So There.

Certainly is a hot topic. But I tend to fall into agreement with the argument that the CY YOUNG award is sufficient to acknowledge the pitching position. It's discussions like this are really unique to baseball and one of the reasons I love the game.

Best American Band ever
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've got two bands on my mind here. The first one is a great band based out of Chicago. Cheap Trick. These guys are stupendous. They got caught up in the updraft of a live album they never intended on releasing in America and it threw their career off track while offering them their greatest commercial success. The Second is a stellar band from Boston. The Cars. These guys got caught up in the New Wave scene and backlash that obscured the fact that they were a damn fine rock band. -
While I am not a fan of pitchers winning the MVP, I think Verlander is a worthy choice. However, I think that Michael Young should have fared better than 8th. I'm not sure who he should place above, but Michael Young was definitely the MVP of the AL Champs. He played in 159 games and saw significant time at 1b, 3b, DH and also did spot duty at SS and 2b. He led the league in hits. When Hamilton went down in April, Young moved into the 3 spot in the batting order. When Beltre went down in August, Young moved into his spot at 3b and the batting order (cleanup). He didn't have a great post seas

Yeah...I know. It's hyperbole, I guess. I was listening to XM Book Radio and they're doing Emporers and Idiots...so I kind of got caught up in Red Sox angst. But that being admitted to, I still don't think Bobby V would be an earthshatteringly bad choice.

Are The Fall greater than The Beatles?
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to gryffe's topic in Someone Else's Song
You can find anything you want on the internet. Want proof that the moon landing was really staged in the Nevada desert? You can find it on the internet. Want proof that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and is a Muslim? You can find it on the internet. Want evidence that the Mossad actually bombed the WTC? Internet Want support for a crackpot opinion that the Fall are greater than the Beatles? Well, You win Gryffe! -

I wonder if he'll blossom like Barry Bonds did when Bobby Bonilla left the Pirates?

Forgot the lately. Good God did it need the lately. Wel Mr. Rareair,I especially like the 'pretending as if you were a life-long rangers fan' part. (Although I now understand the confusion I caused by not putting in the adverb) Not that I have to defend myself to you or anybody else, I don't particularly like the tone. (Although I fully understand it given my clumbsy writing) I'm 51 years old. I've lived in Texas for all 51 of those years. I was 11 years old in April 1971 when the Rangers played their first game in the old turnpike stadium. Why is it hard to believe I've been a Rangers

If you don't mind me saying so, and all apologies due are pre-extended, but this is a pretty stupid attitude to take. The fact that they were miserable losers for 30 of the years you followed them and they were continually at best second to the Yankees didn't bother you but hiring Bobby V to manage was the last straw? But that being saied and done...the Rangers are always looking for t-shirt fans. (The team I have followed since 1972 has lately been fairly successful, but they are getting into epic fail territory.) The voices in my head said lately, but the fingers didn't comply. Now ba

Jeff Tweedy to produce Kids These Days album
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to Kim Bodnia's topic in Just A Fan
I thought that was a given...it wouldn't have been as funny if it were really Jeff You'd think a Chicago publication/website would be a bit more respectful of the leader of the best American band. -
While it would be really cool to see the boys performing a showcase number in an album of the year nominee performance, I can't imagine it would ever happen. Corporate music sucks...and the grammys are the mouthpiece of the evil empire. They should be called the "Grammies".

Best American Band ever

Well...I would definitely add Creedence and Metallica to the list. And for sheer longevity's sake Chicago. But, that being said and done, I am all in on this here Wilco band. I hear they be pretty darn good. So...you are legion? -
From facebook. One gets very attached to a pet afte 20 years. .

This one is really good. Okkervil River is the perfect foil for Roky. His story is really tragic with his descent into mental illness. But his brother fought the odds and got him the help he needed. The stuff recorded in his stint at the Rusk Hospital for the Criminally Insane is chillingly beautiful.

I figured the announcement of a new album and tour deserved a new thread. .

Rob's status needs tobe changed to "KING Robert of the Wilcobase".

I can't speak from firsthand experience, but a friend of mine who saw GnR in Dallas had a diametrically opposite opinion of the show, Axl's appearance and the whole thing. They were more than disappointed.
