  1. as has already been said, yes, watch it chronologically.

And allow me to make a bold prediction. You say it will take you a year to watch a season. There's a better than good chance it will become your new obsession. Hell, there are even rumors that the show caused a veteran lead man from some band to lose his place in the middle of song he knows all too well.....

yeah, my hunch is that it will take less than a month!

  2. Yes. Season 2 may kind of throw you off, as it doesn't follow season 1 clearly, but I'd still say it's essential to watch the show chronologically.

i really loved season 2...just a whole new aspect of the city and it's complex issues.

as an aside, the dude who played stringer bell was recently on fresh air. hearing him talk as a 'real' person just blew my mind. i was expecting him to be stringer all the time. just an incredible actor, as were all cast members. wasn't clarence clemons on there too? season 4?

    "PANDEMIC....GOT THAT PANDEMIC!"

shit, i gotta watch it again.

  3. I cannot disagree with that at all. Definitely worth the time investment. The most "realistic" cop drama that has ever existed. I can't think of many TV shows I like more than this one, ether. All the characters are interesting for the most part.

It is very entertaining, and I just may have learned something along the way as well. It really delves into the deep-seeded politics of the force, schools, city hall, print media, etc., and pulls few punches. Plus I like watching McNulty and Bunk vomiting in nearly every episode.

Omar is probably my favorite TV character of all time, and Beanie (sp?) is milfy-goodness.

Omar ROCKS! the crazy thing about the wire was how real it seemed. i mean, it just looked like real cops and gangsters doing there thing. the show was utterly compelling and not because of some original plot line or cute actors. it was REAL drama...all expectations dashed, real life, real death. i could go on. it's amazing. savor every minute. you'll be drooling while time has stopped as you watch each episode...then...those drums and bass that indicate the end of another masterful episode. :thumbup

as another poster said....law and order ect. are complete jokes after watching the wire.

Deadwood has meant the world to me for the last couple of months. I would run from the truck to the mailbox to see if it was there.

Now I am excited. I have no frame of reference. I know nothing of The Wire. But, damn, these are fine reviews. Once I am in to the series, I hope to have a discussion. Or, at the very least, quote.

    "Do tell...", Omar

video for Light A Candle. prolly gonna be the best song on the new album. despite my initial reaction to the songs, i'm actually looking forward to this now.

now, neil is so old and ragged at this point, i would love to hear him do an acoustic album with long, slow, lower key songs about anything. man, that would be awesome. just knock out a masterpiece for us.

this random blog had this to say about a new album. the part i don't get is the 'record company redtape'. she has her own label, acony bell. so is she just holding he self up with her own record company?

sidenote...youtube has some good david rawlings machine vids. this is one of the few bands i would love a dylan cover album or neil young or anything for that matter. :worship

Ginger Kowal, co-founder of the Dave Rawlings Machine fan-club and friend of the Tent Revue, had a chance to chat with Gillian and Dave when they stopped in Asheville last month, and she learned first-hand from Gillian that the new Gillian Welch album -- and there is one coming -- will probably not land on your iPod until 2009, thanks to record label red tape. I don't have any more details for you, but you should go join the DRM fan club on Facebook and get the full scoop from Ginger.

  6. she is one of my top ten favorites. i just adore her. however, it's been 5 years since a new album! WTF! she's been playing all her 'new tunes' for years now. any news on new album? i would love to see a David Rawlings machine album :dancing

  7. it's all entertainment business. nothing more. i think it's just a bonus that he's one of the many vehicles people used to stay willfully ignorant. ironically, it's the actually listeners (i'm thinking middle aged wage earners) who probably have a lot of good insight as to what's going on in society. does Rush or anyone listen to them? no. do they speak up? no. imagine of all the ditto heads turned off their radios, unionized, and boycotted work for one day. the nation would shut down and the PEOPLE would see that they have the power. the power to demand a living wage, total health insurance, a government that actually does serve the people(not special interests), etc.

just because A Lot of people 'believe' what some dude is saying, doesn't mean its true. in fact, i am coming to realize more and more that only a small, small minority see what's really going on in this world, understand what works, and have enough self awareness to take care of themselves and allow others to do the same.

oh, and those folks also like wilco too. go figure.

  8. Jack White is forming a new band with a girl from The Kills, the bassist from the Raconteurs, and another guy from the Raconteurs who also plays in QOTSA.

They have two songs on their website and I am not overly impressed with either. Apparently Jack sings a few songs, maybe? I'm more interested to hear those as I am not a big fan of The Kills but I am however a big fan of drummers/singers (Levon Helm and Ringo Starr style). Personally, I always thought Jack White would make a killer solo album, I've always liked his acoustic numbers.

I was hoping the Conan appearance would lead to a new album and tour but I suppose Meg needs more time.

    link????

  9. Wow I didn't even realize this was still around anyways...I remember buy 1 get six free...shipping was loony but it was a good deal. First batch of disks I got from BMG included Jayhawks "Hollywood Town Hall" and Bjork's "Debut" back in 92. Both disks I still cherish!

yeah, i pretty much filled out my springsteen and dylan catalogs as a result of this service. it was always fun getting that package of 6 CDs. it was like christmas were someone actually had an idea of what music you wanted!

  10. I like "Let's Fight". I actually like it better than the version I've heard "I'll Fight"...though I've only listened to it a couple times.

okay so I'll Fight IS a reworking of Let's Fight???

  11. Thought it was played on this latest solo tour. Doesn't look like it.

    Sunny Feeling?

I would be surprised if Let's Fight made it on this album. Maybe, but you would think they would be playing it live at least once in a while.

    Sunny Feeling...that's it! thanks.

speaking of lets fight, i've only heard it once. i can't remember if it's any good. i'm just fascinated by the process of choosing songs to play live and to put on an album. it's a huge part of the creative process as far as i am concerned. totally mystical.

  12. man

    these all killed me

lindsey buckingham a few months ago but had an unavoidable work conflict

tobin sprout years ago -- and he NEVER tours - and couldn't get out of something long scheduled

smithereens ... dropped my daughter off at her grandmother's, she wasn't feeling well. she told me, "I want to go home, daddy, but I know how much you want to see that concert, so I'll be fine." come on ... how could I leave her there!

priorities become crystal clear with kids.

  13. That sounds great

what about 'Let's Fight'? is that song too old? would also love to see 'My Words' on this album!

what are some other unreleased songs that haven't made it to an album yet?

I think it was only played at a Living Room Show. No recording available (yet).

oh, isn't there a song about sunshine?

  14. I somehow found the will to stay away from all info and did the no spoilers download this morning. I am so happy I did. Listening to the show without knowing what would come next made for a real treat. The only other times I did that was when I was at shows, or I stumbled on someone's maxell tape that wasn't labelled in the old days.

I went for a short run this morning and figured that I'd listen to the show on my run to make it more interesting. It was easy to tell when the lights went down, and when I heard the first notes of Fluffhead I think I laughed out loud with joy. When the lyrics started, and it sounded like everyone in the arena was singing at the top of their lungs, I had both of my hands on top of my head and was shaking it back and forth as I was running. People must have thought I was an idiot. And then, when they got the ohhhhhhh yeah! part, I had to stop. I pulled over. Haha I really must have looked like a loon out there.

On the whole, the show was a blast. I have always gotten a disproportionate # of Horns at the shows I went to, so it was a laugh to get one of those again. Listening to that OhKeePa, and wondering if we'd get the Suzie after it? Just like old times. The first dance at my wedding was Waste.

I agree with Moe that Page was the star of the night. And, mountainbed, I wont say anything either, but I really doubt it. :)

It's really nice to know that the boys are back. My world is a better place with them in it. I am going to download nospoilers again tomorrow morning.

with Horn, i think trey wanted to prove that he could actually play the solo. that was one botched tune near the end. okeepa was so fun...i called ACDC bag, but suzie was it.

i was driving around with the kids listening today and just looked around in disbelief that EVERYONE on the road and walking with ipods wasn't jamming to the reunited phish show that wasn't more than 15 hours old!!

  15. waited till midnight for 'no spoilers' but couldn't stay up. up with kid at 4am, so downloaded the show. finally got finished with the first set this afternoon. THE BOYS DELIVERED. they just nailed fluffhead. opening with that showed that they are back in gear and have much confidence. the rest of the set was played so well. glad they're not taking risks, just playing the songs we love to perfection. i think they were enjoying it too...playing well and not being a mockery of themselves.

i will say, there were moments of nostalgia, which is not a bad thing. however, i'm excited about the new album and impending tour. they can only get tighter at this point. yes, it is like the early 90s again!
