  1. bad joke, sorry. i can hear neko pretty well on Women and Country. it's about half good. i don't mind T.Bone's production. however, i think jakob could make a killer album with a small band including pedal steel and no attempts at trying to be tom waits.
  2. http://www.archive.o...tman.12755.shnf probably the last, best second set. i remember the buzz about this show being an X-Factor show. i guess what makes it great is that garcia enunciates every word and hits all the guitar parts :-) scarlet> Fire Playin> Dark Star> Terrapin> D/S etc.
  3. been enjoying women and country. is jacob in any way related to bob dylan (spelling ?)? i've always wondered. they kind of look alike.
  4. of course, i went to check out the 92 compton show and got snagged on this: http://www.archive.org/details/gd1980-12-26.nak300.walker-scotton.miller.89260.sbeok.flac16 i love 1980. just chill and they still at a peak. too bad i don't torrent, i'd love to check out that highlights set. so many roads did have some interesting stuff, but not the best versions i think. they were more sentimental (last so many roads etc.)
  5. been revisiting fall 93. not bad. at lest entertaining when i was there. def better than '92. although there were some highlights there too. i really wish they'd put out a 'highlights' set from each tour from 92-95 a la without a net.
  6. i liked the guitar he was playing 93. it basically sounded acoustic. nice and clean.
  7. that is interesting. they were playing so well then and i think just having fun and not busting their balls as much. by 87, all the technology for playing live kind of peaked. also, personnel in the band was pretty tight then too, not withstanding midland's drug use. those years just sound so tight to me, middle aged guys just enjoying their living and putting on solid tours for the heads. btw, every solo on every Loser is awesome! i loved hearing that live. people went ape-shit. of course, the crowd went ape-shit for pretty much anything except Victim or Picasso :0
  8. i was looking at a site that gave the history of garcia's guitars. pretty interesting. one can get lost in the gear stuff. there are forums dedicated to discussing and recreating garcia's sound. when i play in my dead cover band, i just play a Strat through an old Fender amp with bass at 0 and treble all the way up. lots of reverb and sometimes some tremolo to mix things up. i need to get an auto-wah for Fire, Shakedown, etc. i would one to play an Irwin at some point. http://dozin.com/jer...tar/history.htm jerry guitar history. just saw this was posted above. sorry.
  9. land of hope and dreams had me worried, with the gospel choir and such, but it is quite moving.
  10. not to mention Ballad of a Thin Man. i need to relisten tot hat show. is the Eyes really fast? btw, i've discovered i like 87-90 instead of 89-90. jerry really turned around via touch of grey. after that coma. also, brent ditched that tinny sounding rhodes and got a better sounding digi-piano.
  11. no problem. surprised to see kimock. too bad he was so low in the mix. ratdog is so good at the blues songs and the bluesy versions of bob tunes, but they butcher the jerry songs. wonder if they'll ever do another album. i loved that first one from 2000. love that tune money for gasoline.
  12. where are you watching the rat dog show? never saw compton, but i always had a good feeling about them when i listened. busting out HCSunshine was such a treat! as far as tapes go, didn't you always have that friend who got every damn tape. we'd hang out and listen and make tapes of tapes. TDK or Maxell's only man.
  13. i think he should've called the album "This Depression". i'm getting this the day it comes out.
  14. i prefer 74-81 then 89-90. that being said, i like it all. also, 74, 77, and 90 really can't be compared. they were a different band. garcia's voice was shit by 82, but the playing was still excellent. 74-77 for me would be peak. almost too good....like wilco...a well oiled machine.
  15. 'Baby in a blender.'-yim yames incidentally, i'm digging his songs on this new guthrie album. i'm a mess i saw them during the it moves era and it was really great. they are def a tight professional band. they even did some of Cobra at that show. i'm curious about his solo album.
  16. after a few listens, it is sounding really good. i'm hoping to get a cheap ticket outside the Atlanta show opener.
  17. listening to the stream...this is really good. i love the harmonies as well as the crazy horse type guitar drones. maybe i'll come around on yim. haven't heard his songs yet. :-)
  18. i loved At Dawn-Z. However, i just thing since Evil Urges the guy just dicks around with his talent. If he just sang songs in his range without the goofy lyrics i'd have a different opinion. you're right, jim james is asked to be in a lot of stuff, but that doesn't mean he's any good. it's really too bad, MMJ could've been a great band of the 00s and beyond, like Wilco. I'll be forever confused why M.Ward wanted to work with both oberst and yames. i know i'll be lambasted for this response, but you asked, why jim?
  19. This Depression is pretty good. It sounds inspired by the Seeger Sessions.
  20. okay, that's what i thought. i've always listened to spring 90. i need to get some summer 90. btw, i didn't thing crimson white and indigo was great either.
  21. no Crimson White and Indigo...that dvd from a few years ago?
  22. i'm so jealous. i was basically one year two young to see the 89-90 shows. was summer 90 the first tour without brent? i know bruce got them doing some fun stuff...a Scarlet>Victim>Fire comes to mind. i like the so far video. i wish it didn't have all the graphics and stuff. i'd much rather watch the band play. btw-i really miss going to grateful dead concerts. i was totally enthralled, even at the shittiest ones. there was just something about hearing them live that was other worldly. i just loved listening to garcia. loved it!
