Geez, thanks for that cold water shower, Tracy.

If I could solve the world's problems I'd probably start with hers and mine
But they can put a man on the moon
And I'm stuck down here just scraping by

Andrew Sullivan wrote a fantastic essay about the state of the country since 9/11 and why he is so confident in Obama, even though he doesn't agree with him on every issue.
I don't want to copy it here because it is very long. It's well worth the time though.

In CT: More than 2 million people registered to vote before the registration deadline expired Tuesday night. That represents approximately three-quarters of the state's voting-age population.
Pretty cool.
-
Yeah, that was really cool. And then he puts in that second tape and hears himself as a child, playing with the dictaphone. That was a really special moment.
Joss, I guess you were looking for something different than I was....I didn't see it as a documentary about quantum mechanics, or even a play by play history of Hugh Everett. For me, the appeal of it was that it was about Mark uncovering so much of his father that he never knew existed and finally coming to understand his lack of a personal relationship with him.

Look what's happening in Paris:

"THE GREAT DAY APPROACHES"Launching of balloons and doves in the huge space that looks out over the Eiffel Tower
on Monday Nov.3 in support of Obama's American voters, followed by cocktails and dinner
at American restaurant a few minutes away.
Tuesday, all-night watching of election returns at venues around the city!
That there should be such support for a foreign election is unprecedented!!!!

For most of Mark Oliver Everett's life, things didn't add up. "Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives" follows Mark, better known as E, the lead singer of the rock band EELS, across the country as he attempts to understand the fantastic possibility of parallel universes and unravel the story of his troubled family and the father he never really knew -
Oh man, that's terrible. They remain one of my favorite bands of all time.
RIP, Frank.

Happy belated birthday, everyone!

My favorite campaign joke:
Oh my god, that's bad.
-
You are wicked!
Happy Halloween!
Hey, John, think I can make a bikini top outta those flags there? -
Not bad, people. But there was one definitive answer here, folks. We were looking for "AT LEAST I CAN LIFT MY ARMS ABOVE MY WAIST!!!"
-
All very good, keep 'em coming! No one has hit on my Rayburn answer though.

don't think i've seen this posted here... awesome:
HAHAHA! Thanks for that.

Pretty good, pretty good.

I'll be like Gene Rayburn on The Match Game and say that there is one obvious answer to this riddle, but it may not be obvious to anyone else, so go all Charles Nelson Reilly on it if you want to.

A friend of mine told me the other night that he thinks both candidates have equal chance of dying in office. At first I told him he was nuts, then I thought harder.
Oh man, that's depressing.
-
Me too - because some do. I have had a conversation about these very things with some people over the past weeks.
My mom just sat with people at a dinner two nights ago who said Obama was a Muslim. I mean, come on.

They are grasping at straws.
And throwing as much shit at the wall as they can possibly think of, hoping that some of it will stick and people will mindlessly believe what they're hearing. That's what I'm worried about.

Big Country
I can't get the sendspace link to work.
nation, i think that TV appearance and tune, just turned me back into the gushing fanboy i haven't been since seeing them at Otto's at the cusp of the AGIB touring. if the newalbum has even a few tunes like that, i'll be stoked.I feel the same way, El.

How cool is that? It's times like these that make me wish I'd stuck with my original Archaelogy major in college. It's so incredible that new things are still being discovered that may alter our perception of history as we know it.

As for Nels playing over the end, I had another Colbert Report Tivoed and I watched the end of it to check out the closing song. I didn't hear any difference between the two. I would love it if Nels had played though!
-
Anyone else catch that Nels was soloing over the theme music at the end? That was sweet.
I don't think that was Nels. That's the way the ending song always sounds.
Congrats to President-Elect OBAMA
