Andrew Sullivan wrote a fantastic essay about the state of the country since 9/11 and why he is so confident in Obama, even though he doesn't agree with him on every issue.

I don't want to copy it here because it is very long. It's well worth the time though.

Joss, I guess you were looking for something different than I was....I didn't see it as a documentary about quantum mechanics, or even a play by play history of Hugh Everett. For me, the appeal of it was that it was about Mark uncovering so much of his father that he never knew existed and finally coming to understand his lack of a personal relationship with him.

I'll be like Gene Rayburn on The Match Game and say that there is one obvious answer to this riddle, but it may not be obvious to anyone else, so go all Charles Nelson Reilly on it if you want to.

A friend of mine told me the other night that he thinks both candidates have equal chance of dying in office. At first I told him he was nuts, then I thought harder.

Oh man, that's depressing.

Me too - because some do. I have had a conversation about these very things with some people over the past weeks.

My mom just sat with people at a dinner two nights ago who said Obama was a Muslim. I mean, come on.

They are grasping at straws.

And throwing as much shit at the wall as they can possibly think of, hoping that some of it will stick and people will mindlessly believe what they're hearing. That's what I'm worried about.

nation, i think that TV appearance and tune, just turned me back into the gushing fanboy i haven't been since seeing them at Otto's at the cusp of the AGIB touring. if the newalbum has even a few tunes like that, i'll be stoked.

How cool is that? It's times like these that make me wish I'd stuck with my original Archaelogy major in college. It's so incredible that new things are still being discovered that may alter our perception of history as we know it.

As for Nels playing over the end, I had another Colbert Report Tivoed and I watched the end of it to check out the closing song. I didn't hear any difference between the two. I would love it if Nels had played though!

Anyone else catch that Nels was soloing over the theme music at the end? That was sweet.

I don't think that was Nels. That's the way the ending song always sounds.
