  1. I thought that was the highlight of the first show(s). I'm so tired of people continuing to trust Ben...I mean...seriously?!

But he also didn't trust Ana Lucia when she told him not to get arrested. So I'm thinking it was the wrong thing to do.

  2. I am impressed that no one here made what appeared to be, once everyone was confirmed safe, the obvious joke, on a message board devoted to music, about A Flock of Seagulls.

I had them in one of my posts and deleted it before I sent it. But that was yesterday when it would have been crude. Today's a whole different story.

  3. I made $10 from my grandmother for helping paint her summer cottage when I was ten. I took the money to my town square and bought one Yes & Know Invisible Ink Book, one large bone chew toy for my dog, and Men At Work's "It's A Mistake" 45 single. Man, that was a day.

    Ah, memories.

  4. I remember books like that. I think one was a baseball book. There would be a grid, and you would use the pen to unveil a square, which would give you a strike, out, hit, ball, HR, etc. Also football, battleship, and other games...

I seem to recall that these books were sold alongside Mad Libs books?

Yes! They were alongside the Mad Libs! I don't remember the ones with games, although it could be that I just wasn't interested in those. I would get ones that had detective stories and clues you'd unveil with the pen. I think I got ones with word games too. I had forgotten all about them until I saw the kite packages.

  5. Some people in Ireland still call them "tinkers", although I think that's pretty politically incorrect. I was in the Disney Store before Christmas, they're now marketing a "fairys" line (next big marketing scheme after the Princesses, I guess), featuring Tinkerbell, and there was a thing about how Tinkerbell's skills include mending pots and pans. I had never put her name together with that before!

    Wow, that's an interesting observation!

Graphically, they remind me of those books they used to sell at gas stations....I think they were private investigator type books that came with a "magic pen" to reveal the answers that were in "invisible ink". Does anyone remember those? I have no idea what they were called, but they usually came with an orange colored magic marker that had clear ink!!!. The covers looked a lot like those kite packages. I got one for the car ride every time we made the drive to Cape Cod.

  7. Until I saw 'Christina's World' in person a few months ago I had no idea the girl was his disabled neighbor who struggled to get around at home. I always thought it was a young girl lounging in the grass on a summer day. It was like looking at a new piece of art after I read that.

    RIP.

  8. I am quite excited about trying this and likely failing. I do pretty well on about half the episodes. But I watch daily.

I watch every day too. I might take the test but I'd be afraid of getting a lot of questions I happen to know the answers to, and then get on the show and make a total fool out of myself when I end up knowing 10-20% of the answers like I normally do. When I get Final Jeopardy right I call my grandmother so she can bask in my excellence. :lol

  9. Last year was an exceptional year for these types of commercials: Shamwow, the foot-tampon thing, the blanket with sleeves, the cell-phone hook, and the pedi-egg.

Don't forget the purse with the magnetic covers, the Buxton bag, and my personal favorite that falls within your guidelines, the Listen Up hearing device that allows you to evesdrop on your neighbors.

I get transfixed when ShamWow Vince is on. I have no idea why. "For the next twenty minutes..." *swallow* "...cause we can't do this all day...."

I think my favorite current commercial is the one for the Amish Electric Heaters. Is there anyone out there who doesn't see the conflict of interest? And there is at least one person in that workshop with a strap on beard. "The Amish have imposed a 2 heater limit per household." :rotfl
