  1. In April, an auction by Julien's Auctions at the Beverley Hills Hilton will provide an unprecedented look into the private world of Michael Jackson. Observer Music Monthly has obtained this world exclusive preview of some of the items going under the hammer

Boy would I love to have Edward's Scissorhands.

  2. Taken.

    Well, it was relatively short.

That about sums up my feeling about it too. We saw it last night. I know it's not intended to be realistic but you could fly a plane through the holes in the plot. At least there were some satisfying kills by Liam Neeson.

  3. I'm not sure where I heard this, but I did hear speculation that he and Casey Affleck are filming a "reality" show with Joaquin's alter ego. I wouldn't watch it, but I hope there's some kind of explanation like that and it's not that he's just gone batshit crazy.

  4. Wow, this week's show was great. M. Ward, Zooey Deschanel, Jenny Lewis, and Jakob Dylan. I've only seen a couple episodes (although they're all on my DVR) but I love the fluidity of this show. This particular episode started with an interview with She and Him, then they played "Change Is Hard", backed by Elvis and some of Jenny's band. Then Jenny joined them for a little more interview time, and did "Pretty Bird" with Elvis, Matt, and her band. Then everyone came out and they all did "Carpetbaggers" and one of Elvis' latest songs. Afterwards, he had Jakob Dylan come out for an interview and solo thing, but then he and Elvis did The Clash's "Straight To Hell" with Jenny's band. In the end, the entire group came out and played "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding". Oh, and through the whole show, the drummer for the Imposters was playing a second drumset along with Jenny's drummer. It was pretty cool!

  5. Jagger has a showman's personality and has been a sex symbol (maybe not now), which he has widely exploited to his own advantage. Except for a small percentage of overly obsessive fans, Tweedy is no sex symbol. He is a great front man, but I don't know about showman. He has his moments.

I beg to differ. He dances a mean jig during "Hummingbird". :dancing

  6. The air you're sucking in starts with the open bowl, then down a tube that ends up below the water's surface. The tube that's connected to the mouthpiece connects to the hookah above the water. In order for the air to get to the mouthpiece-tube, it has to pass through water - thus, the bubbles.

OK, this is where we were hung up. The hookahs that we were talking about (our friend was home from Saudi Arabia and was telling us how everyone smokes a kind of solidified tobacco using hookahs) has nothing protruding into the water. If one of the tubes went into the water it would make perfect sense. But nothing was sticking into the water.

I'll click on that Wiki link when I get home. :P

  7. The air that you're drawing through the hose has to come from somewhere - it comes through the bowl at the top, bringing the smoke with it - through the water (the bubbles) and up through the hose.

But where do the bubbles come from? If you're sucking air in, it sucks the smoke down into the pipe, and then into your mouth. But how does the water bubble when you're drawing smoke through air?

If you put a straw straight into a glass of water and blow, the bubbles are formed because you're adding air to the liquid. But you aren't adding air in this case, you're just moving it through an empty space, right?
