  1. Question: how come everyone ripped Batman for his voice and everyones loves Rorschach with the exact same voice? Is it just that the voice was different for Bruce Wayne/Batman?

That was the first thing I said when I came out of the movie. My husband didn't even notice the extreme similarity until I mentioned it.

    I like getting duded.

    Anyway...saw the movie today.

Some observations from someone who never read the GN:

    1) Malin Akerman may have given the worst performance in a major motion picture that I have ever seen.

    2) Jackie Earl Haley was wonderful

    3) too much blue dong

    YES, YES, and YES.

  2. Not trusting Cramer isn't about being cynical or jaded. It's realizing that he has no idea of your financial situation, your financial goals, your risk tolerance, your investment-savvy, etc.

But neither does the Wall Street Journal, so is it smart to read WSJ but not to watch Cramer? Plenty of people don't know that one is accurate and one may not be.

  3. I'm sure that, given the way CNBC presents itself, a lot of people think they are a reliable news source, and an alternative to the WSJ. They certainly don't tell people they're a bunch of windbags who will probably be wrong half the time. I know I will not be reading a WSJ any time soon, sorry. I can't comprehend financial columns, and sometimes seeing someone explaining things to me on TV is a lot easier to understand. I don't watch any of these shows except an occasional Suze Orman episode, so I don't know how all of the CNBC shows work, but I will say that having Orman spell things out for me makes me understand the way things work a lot better. I imagine that a lot of Cramer viewers are like me, and need to have some things spelled out in plain English. Should they blindly follow whatever he says to do? No. But I can certainly understand how plenty of people would take his advice as a "leading financial expert". And that's what Stewart was trying to say. It's not a fucking game. People LISTEN to you.

  4. By the way, I like the song 99 Luftballoons a lot, but it had no business being in the movie. I thought a few of the song choices were strange. All the music was good, but some of the songs took me out of the movie, thinking "why is this song playing right now?"

There were a few head scratchers, but I absolutely loved the muzak version of "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" in Veidt's office.

  5. This week' date=' we received numerous calls and emails from OCA supporters who came across alarming YouTube videos and emails circulating on the internet that claimed a new food safety bill (HR 875) introduced in Congress would make "organic farming illegal." Although the Bill certainly has its shortcomings, it is an exaggeration to say that is a secret plot by Monsanto and the USDA to destroy the nation's alternative food and farming system. In actuality, HR 875, the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009, is a limited-vision attempt by moderate Democrats and Republicans to craft food safety legislation to address the out-of-control filth and contamination that are inherent in our industrialized, now globalized, "profit-at-any-cost" food system.

This being said, OCA does not support HR 875 in its present form, given the fact that, if the Bill's regulations were applied in a one-size-fits-all manner to certified organic and farm-to-consumer operations, it could have a devastating impact on small farmers, especially raw milk producers who are already unfairly targeted by state food-safety regulators. Although the OCA deems this Bill as somewhat well-intentioned, we are calling on Congress to focus its attention on the real threats to food safety: globalized food sourcing from nations such as China where food safety is a joke and domestic industrial-scale and factory farms whose collateral damage includes pesticide and antibiotic-tainted food, mad cow disease, E.coli contamination and salmonella poisoning. And, of course, Congress and the Obama Administration need to support a massive transition to organic farming practices.[/quote']

  6. i looked for some kind of review from you too in the after the show part down there but never saw anything. the person i was going with ended up out of town last second and we couldn't get a babysitter for my wife to take his place so i blew it off rather than go alone.

in the olden days, i would have gone alone and loved it. but now it's more like, oww my knees hurt. i better turn down this hearing aid before the show. where'd i leave my cane again?

    :lol

I think Drew (tongue-tied lightning) had tickets too and didn't go for the same reason! It wasn't so much that I had a lot to do, but when we realized the date we knew we were going to hit a TON of traffic in and out of the city.

Following the initial success Pat Spurgeon's kidney transplant 13 years ago and the subsequent transplant failure, a new documentary, "D tour" is in the works that chronicles Pat's search for a living organ donor.

The film reflects on Pat's choice to keep touring while working toward the band's goals, the absolute need to perform dialysis daily, and the focus on his health being top priority while on the road. At an even deeper level, D tour addresses issues with the healthcare system, the lack of affordable insurance, the importance of organ donation, and much, much more.

D tour also features live performances from Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Nada Surf, Ryan Miller, John Vanderslice, The Moore Brothers, and of course, Rogue Wave.

Directed by Jim Granato, the film is a labor of love both creatively and financially. A brand new song by Rogue Wave (with Japonize Elephants) called "Positive Hero Worship" is a free download to anyone who donates to the film at www.dtourmovie.com.

To find out more about the film, see the trailer, and find out how to become an organ donor, visit www.dtourmovie.com.

  8. I can't believe I forgot about Jenny Lewis/Watson Twins/M. Ward/Conor Oberst (yuck) in a beautiful converted church in NYC. That was an event more than a show....the seats were set up like we were in church with programs and everything. Jenny and the twins came from the back of the church and out of sight, slowly walking up the aisle singing "Run Devil Run". I got chills. Then when she did "Born Secular" solo on the piano I actually teared up. The whole experience was was so beautiful.

  9. Most memorable was Jeff Tweedy at the Commodore in Vancouver in January 2007. Living on Vancouver Island, my girlfriend and I waited at the ferry terminal for about eight hours before finally being told the boats wouldn't be sailing due to wind. We were devastated.

Then I posted about it on here and Dreamin' offered us her extra tickets for Tweedy's Seattle show a couple days later. We still consider that one of the most amazing things anyone's ever done for us.

She's something else, isn't she? :wub
