  1. I keep my music on an external hard drive that iTunes reads from. It slows down my computer like a mofo though, and as a result, I hardly ever open iTunes when working at my computer. I pretty much only use iTunes when I'm away from the computer.

Right now, I'm working in Flash and Illustrator and listening to Pandora.

Sorry to hear about your crash, Sarah. I'll turn on my external drive later to see what I can send ya.

Strange. Mine runs really fast, something that it didn't do when I housed everything on my internal HD.

  2. Actually my anal retentive nature would say that a backup backup to the same media is not as safe as the CDs, because you're backed up to different media. But that's a buttload of CDs.

It's not as safe, you're right, but it sure is a lot faster! And if one drive goes bad, I have the backup drive until I can get another 1TB drive for 100 bucks. :lol

Actually, I'm going to partition the second drive to also make a bootable backup of my entire system in case my internal hard drive crashes. Of course I've been saying this for a year now. I'm another one who preaches regular backups but rarely does them myself, which is why I also lost 3/4 of my music collection and all my personal photos 4 years ago. :realmad

  3. I changed the setting for the folder iTunes reads from to be a folder on the external drive. I think it's in the Preferences menu. You can redirect iTunes to look for the folder somewhere besides its default location. I did this because I have a 250GB internal hard drive and about 230 GB of music files. ITunes bogged down the rest of my system so much that it wasn't good for anything except a music player. Once I moved all of the music to the external drive and freed up all that space the computer is screaming fast again.

I know this isn't the time to hear from someone real anal, but the only safe way is to back it up on an external harddrive and keep CD copies of everything. It is alot of work and I on a monthly basis back up and make CDRs of any new downloads, but it is worth it.

I'm actually going to buy a second 1 TB drive to back up my backup. :lol

  4. If you get a chance to see the 400 unit, don't miss it. Jason's a friend from the Shoals area, and in addition to being an amazing songwriter he's an even better guy. It's always good to support guys who are doing it the right way-- and he is.

Good to see the love start pouring in for em.

It's a regular love fest for Jason in these parts. I have been told I should be his agent based on the amount of people I've turned into Isbell fans. :)

  5. Just picked up:

    Rancid - Let's Go

I have the double 10" white vinyl, but no turntable to play it on, anymore.

It's nice to hear this again; especially "Radio" (one of my favorite songs, evah).

That is a fantastic song. Have you ever heard the 7" version? It's even better, IMO.

  6. Ashes DVD

    SY/Beck 7"

    MMJ 2X10"

    Flaming Lips/Black Keys 7"

    Jenny Lewis 7"

    Decemberists 7"

    Free RSD Sampler LP

A ton of junk: flyers, CD comps, stickers and zines the store was dying to get rid of. So they filled up everyone's bag with their trash, essentially

and bought "New Brunswick, New Jersey, Goodbye", a book about the NB hardcore scene. Maybe the biggest niche market book ever. But a band I'm friends with seems to be in every other photo, so I needed to have a copy. :lol

My husband got the Booker T. 7" and all three Sharon Jones LPs.

  7. I went in winter too...I think it was 4 years ago. It was a totally unique experience, and I'd do it again in a second if it didn't cost so damn much money. Woodstock is wonderful. I would live there if it weren't so far away from everything.

  8. Oh yeah, Little Sammy Davis! That guy's a character! :lol

When I was there he had the Conan guy too, as well as an awesome female black soul singer. I think her name was Alexis P. Suter. Something like that. And Amy and her band Ollabelle played too. They were part of Levon's ensemble as well.

  9. Even without having a serious illness, Helm is 68 and can't sing all night long anymore. Hopefully he brings a load of great folks to back him up.

This is true, but he has gradually been getting stronger, not weaker. He really needed to retrain his vocal cords and his lungs after he beat the cancer.

And hey, I just saw Ted Neely in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar a couple weeks ago....he's 66 and hit every rock opera note that he hit in the movie version 35 years ago!!

  10. The first time I saw him was an early Ramble and he didn't/couldn't sing at all. The second time he sang a couple songs and let his band do the rest. The last one was about 6 months ago, and he was going strong until close to the end of the night when his voice just lost its strength. I think they take this into account when they plan the setlists though. Larry Campbell, and his daughter Amy share a good deal of the singing duties. It's more like an ensemble than anything.
