  1. Van Morrison doing 'Comfortably Numb.' Lucinda Williams' 'Are You Alright?' Calexico's 'Minas de Cobre' M. Ward playing in the background in one scene. Not bad. Not bad at all.
  2. Ah, the Villager. When I was a kid we lived on Capers (the part of Capers we lived on isn't there anymore, as it was swallowed by the Med Center), and my dad used to hang at the Villager. 20 years later, when I was in school in Nashville, I lived on Fairfax and used to hang at the Villager and throw darts regularly. It is one of the few institutions in the village to last through the gentrification (is Ralph's still there?). Great place.
  3. Very worth checking out. For What I Don't Become is a very, very good record.
  4. 'Sno Angel Like You was one of the best records of 2006. Another side project is OP8, with Joey and John from Calexico and Lisa Germano. As far as similar desert rock, Calexico and Friends of Dean Martinez would top the list.
  5. Let me add that it looks like in the first two days of ticket sales Wilco sold about half this venue - a little better than 3000 tickets. Not bad, considering they didn't sell out the 4400 seat Fox Theatre until a couple of days before the show on their last trip through.
  6. The "best available" right now on ticketmaster are in the row g-j range in the orchestra section - about halfway up the lower orchestra section. If you can get in the middle section behind the sbd, these are good seats. I've seen many a show from this area. But I'm excited about my 8th row pit seats for this one. Closest I've ever been at Chastain.
  7. A single single has also leaked at that sty place, which has two additional tracks...
  8. 1-4 - just down from you. I've scored a table in the first terrace before, but these are the best seats I've ever gotten at Chastain.
  9. BTW - I was at that Neil/Lu show also - and the crowd was great for Lucinda, because her set was in the middle of a thunderstorm and only people who wanted to see her were out there.
  10. I'd say it a little differently. There is something about the venue - primarily its location - that brings out the worst audiences. I don't think that people who otherwise are respectful turn into rude audience members at Chastain. I think Chastain draws a crowd of rude, self-centered dilettantes who won't venture into a loud, crowded smoky intown venue for a show. As I said on another board, I hope the band will open the set with a couple of noisefests to run off some of the social attendees.
  11. The venue is fine. Quite nice actually. A beautiful WPA era amphitheatre. It is the people there that are typically the problem. For the summer series, they allow folks to bring food and drink, candles for tables, etc. You end up with lots of chatty people who aren't paying attention to the show. And, if this has any meaning to you, it is usually a very 'Buckhead' crowd. Hopefully, this one will be a little different. I've seen 2-3 shows at Chastain without the table setup with better crowds than the typical Chastain crowd. BTW - this isn't Wilco's first stop at Chastain. They o
  12. I'm loving this record. It will be in my top 5 for sure. IMO, Slow Show > Apartment Story > Start A War is the high point of the record.
  13. That's just crazy talk. But I do like 'methamphetamine' more than just about anything he's done since Straightaways.

    Sky Blue Sky

Have you heard The Search? I don't think it'll be that much thunder. A couple of tracks I like more than anything since Straightaways. Most of the rest, meh.
  15. The drummer, Jeremy, and the violinist, Amanda, accompanied McCaughey in Atlanta. First time playing together. I thought they sounded great.
  16. It was cold as hell inside because it was cold as hell outside. That's a drafty old building. Did anyone see any rigs? I didn't, but I'd love to get a tape of this show.
  17. Same with the Halloween show in Atlanta. Found out about midday Monday. Sold out almost immediately. Fantastic show. Small room (the Loft). $12. Band and much of crowd in costume.
  18. I'll be there for the duration. And at Shins / Black Angels Friday night. Probably at Jon Dee Graham Saturday after the fest.
