Wow. Words kind of fail me at this moment. I'm really proud of the Giants and how they have quieted each and every naysayer by winning a championship under the most adverse conditions possible. The Manning-to-Tyree catch may eclipse the Immaculate Reception as the greatest play ever, and XLII was one of the top four or five best Super Bowls ever. Playing in New York is not for the faint of heart, but when you win a championship, the greatest city in the world is your oyster.

Thank you. I am just a cog in a machine. -
Not really endorsing what is below. I must get six e-mails a day from the Hillary people. To: Interested Parties From: Mark Penn, Chief Strategist Date: Saturday, February 2, 2008 Re: Hillary is the Democrat to Beat McCain If John McCain becomes the Republican nominee, Hillary is the Democrat who can beat him -- because she has the strength and experience a president needs to get America on the right course and to defend it against future threats. She is the hands-on leader that America needs as we slip into a worsening economic crisis. Her abilit

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (AP) -- An asteroid that exploded over Siberia a century ago, leaving 800 square miles of scorched or blown down trees, wasn't nearly as large as previously thought, a researcher concludes, suggesting a greater danger for Earth. According to supercomputer simulations by Sandia National Laboratories physicist Mark Boslough, the asteroid that destroyed the forest at Tunguska in Siberia in June 1908 had a blast force equivalent to one-quarter to one-third of the 10- to 20-megaton range scientists previously estimated. Better understanding of what happened at Tunguska w

I think Wilco is a much better band than they were in 1995, or even 1999. I'm not trying to take anything away from A.M., Being There or Summerteeth, all of which are great, but they became something more in the process of making YHF. Something able to deliver a much richer, more nuanced and more sublime experience. They went from being classifiable to transcending categorization. I'm kind of burned out on SBS for the time being, but when I was not, I liked it quite a bit. -
Subtracting Tiki Barber is not why the Giants are in the Super Bowl. It has to do with Eli, if not really being great, not sucking so hard anymore and not beating his own team, and a fearsome pass rush. The offensive line has had a great year, and Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw have all been very good at different times.

Thanks. Somewhere in Albuquerque, my Bill Lee card collection is stored. I have almost all of them, most in mint condition.

I think the Mets everyday lineup is good enough - providing Delgado doesn't totally shit the bed like he did in '07 - that if they get even a little bit of decent pitching, they'll be in the postseason. Last year's collapse, most observers agree, was due to an overstressed rotation overstressing the bullpen, which ultimately just ran out of gas. Santana immediately upgrades the rotation, obviously, and is the kind of pitcher that can be the decisive factor in a short postseason series. It's hard to be sure what will happen with the rest of the rotation. Best case scenario - Pedro and El D. sta

I think our friend cryptique is one of those people with a marginally irrational hatred for New York teams and all the attention they get.

I think that's just Yankee exceptionalism talking.

Bush's State of the Union Address: The Final Chapter

1. Generally, what historians do is debate, analyze, theorize about stuff that's already happened. The utility in this is that perhaps something will be learned and applied to a future situation. One may hope that Iraq has put an end, at least for a while, to adventurous nation-building, but people thought that in the post-Vietnam era too. 2. There were a lot of people who didn't go along with this war from the minute the "Axis of Evil" phrase left Bush's lips and had the moral courage to say so in public. Many of them took a lot of shit for it, too, before the majority soured on the war. -
If that's the matchup, the Clintons will re-implement the "it's the economy, stupid" strategy and may well win. As long as Iraq/national security takes a back seat to the recession, it's an edge to Hillary.

Compare the kind of evidence Bush offered with the kind of evidence Kennedy had of missiles in Cuba. -

I would rank going in in the first place as the critical error, but not having a plan has made this harder than it had to be. -

I suspect that was mostly out of fear of a backlash from a war-enthusiastic populace rather than any great love for the enterprise. Anyone with half a brain could tell in 2003 that if we went in there, we would be there for at least 10 years and likely a lot longer. -

I would just about bet my immortal soul that Gore would not have gone into Iraq. -
It is an interesting perhaps-not-coincidence that Eli has done much better with him out of the lineup. That Boss kid seems to be doing fine.
