Happy Birthday to dixiecupdrinker! AND Kicking Television

Awwww. Thanks everyone! Hi Jen! dcd -
I was only going to order the Vinyl/Cd combo, not the package with the T-shirt and bag or what have you. Anyway, I dropped them a line about upgrading the CD given with the Vinyl to the CD/DVD combo and this is the response I got: I guess I'll have to order the deal with the bag and all that, too. dcd

- this is what I'll be doing tonight... right around 9 pm on the couch. It's more exciting than trying to find something to do around here. dcd

Ha! You DO remember correctly. And, you we're right. It is pretty in the Fall. That's about it, though. Don't get me wrong, I don't need some huge night life, just access to a decent grocery store, a decent bookstore, good coffee, etc. Being "not too far away" from the city is loads better than this. Lynchburg was a necessary evil to get to this next step. It gave me the "in" I needed and it has paid off. But, boy, am I glad THAT is over...

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to be trucking up a load of stuff and then have to run back down to L-burg, so I'll miss it. Cool heads-up though, man... dcd

Um, yes. I guess if you aren't looking to do anything on Friday nights, then Lynchburg isn't bad. I'd imagine it might be a nice place to raise kids, but you know, that does zero for me. I guess a great night out would be to hit the Chick-Fil-A (their chocolate shakes are like crack! mmm) and then the Wal-mart. The mall here is at least 20 years outdated, both the movie theaters barely pass as dollar theaters compared to other places I've lived, and the best times I have here are when I go other places, like Charlottesville or D.C. for the weekend. They have what could be a cool downto

Does the train run out to Manassas? I don't think a train runs through Fairfax, either, but WTF do I know? I know the traffic will probably suck, which will be a change from what I'm used to in the Land of Jerry, but the other trade-offs will make it totally freaking worth every single minute of commute and sitting in traffic time... Of course, I say that shit now, but gimme 6 months...

Never heard of Wegman's, but I'll check it out fo sho.
-
When I saw them at the Palace, A Tribe Called Quest opened- so that HAD to be for "Ill", right? They did the in-the-round stage, too.
-
I don't know about the other two, but the one in the middle sure looks like Willie Nelson!
-
Gimme some mutha fuckin' elbow room! Yeah, that sounds about right to me... Where in MI are you from? Oh, I just realized you probably aren't, but I assumed you meant you saw a show at Cobo or at the Palace in '92....

I like beer. I'm not good at Golden Tee, but would gladly do some imbibing and try my hand at it sometime. I know where I'll be on Random Hills Road is right by some mall... haha...I know really fuggin' descriptive of me. There's also another mall that has a massive movie theater where I saw "300" after my interview, and a restaurant called "Coastal Flats" (maybe?) and a Caribou Coffee if you go the other way on Random Hills. dcd Thanks, man! I'll get the lay of the land soon enough. My boss told me they just put up a Whole Foods in Fairfax over by the Nortel Gubment Soultions

Thanks for refreshing my somewhat hazy memory... Did you see the Beasties when they played Cobo Hall last time? What, two years ago maybe? That was a good show. I've also seen them at the Palace when they toured for "Ill Communication" and before that at Cobo for maybe Check Your Head? Maybe both shows were in support of Ill. I shouldn't have smoked so much pot back then. It fucks up my concert-going memories. The first time at Cobo, Bad Brains were supposed to open, but couldn't because what's-his-name went to jail for assault. This was right around "The Hurra" cd release because I r

That's some funny shit. dcd

Thank you. I love you, too? I know we don't really know each other yet, but there's time for that later... mmmmm.... kimchee..... BTW, I knew I didn't spell bibim bap the correct way. When in doubt, go phoenetic. I'll need to find the Trader Joe's. I'm not too familiar with the area yet, but Centreville is just one town over from Fairfax, right? I'll eat the hell out of some dirty Korean bbq! mmmm dcd

Dunno. Where do they work? Random Hills Road. I'd post the name of the company, but I don't know about any of you crazy stalker-types.

Hey y'all. I guess I'm a little late for this thread and missed it the first time around, but I'm escaping Jerry Falwell-ville (Lynchburg) and have accepted a position in Fairfax. Anyway, I was thinking about buying a Fodors guide or an insider's guide or something so I can start trying to see stuff on the weekends. Thanks for all the great tips! BTW, I especially appreciate the food tips. I would fookin' kill for some Korean Bi-Bim-Bop or some decent Middle Eastern. Their idea of ethnic cuisine in Lynchburg is going to the fuggin' Golden Corral for fried shrimp on Tuesdays. dcd

I'm just giving ya a hard time, man. I totally agree with you about TT5B being a disapointment. I wish they'd stop trying to be so political and get back to having fun, too.
-
Geez, simmer down, Kev. I said you had some relevant points.
-
Who asked for it? I didn't, but thanks for the insightful comments, anyway. Even if nobody did ask for it, you bring up some good points. But, even if they aren't "relevant" anymore, they had a pretty good run of albums.

Have any of you ever heard any of the Adrock solo shit? He had BS2000, which I though was decent. I have the vinyl and am not sure they ever released any of that on CD. If not, maybe I'll digitize that, too. I saw him a few years back at the Magic Bag or the Magic Stick, can't remember which. He also had that side project punk band, but I can't remember their name. That wasn't so great. I haven't heard anything from DJ Hurricane lately, either. The first Hurricane disc, "The Hurra" is fookin' good, the second one "Severe Damage" had some good tracks, too. That last one, "Don't Sleep"

Yeah, CIC had some good tunes, but it never got under my skin like Keyboard Repair or Push the Button. On October 30th sometime back in the 90's one year, my friend, Jimmy, and I drove to the House of Blues in Chicago to see him perform. Because it was Halloween, everyone was dressed up. We wore these crazy Bootsy Collins sunglasses. Anyway, we ended up hanging out with the band and were invited to hang out on their bus. They seemed impressed that the bus used to be Garth Brooke's tour bus. Funny shit. Anyway, they invited us to see them in Detroit the next night . Jim and I took som

I quite like Hello Nasty, myself. Ok, not as much as Paul's or CYH or even IC, but it's pretty good. The last one...not so much. The Fourth Beastie, Money Mark, has a new album out, too. It's on my list to pick up. http://moneymark.com/media.html Give 'em a listen. If you aren't familiar with Mark's stuff outside of the Beasties, you should definietly give "Mark's Keyboard Repair" a spin. "Push the Button" is a lot of fun, too. anyway, dcd
