Thanks, guys! To quote a line from That Thing You Do!, you are my biggest fan(s). (And it was also great to see some familiar faces in person at the actual show, even if they were behind masks. 😷😷😷) And it’s good to be back on here, even if VC looks different on my phone now! Did this new layout just start today? -
Well, it's been a minute since I've been on here — and certainly since I've written one of these — so please forgive the rustiness in advance. Anyway, I'm sure that most everybody who would probably even care about these thoughts either watched the show for themselves via live stream or was there in person so obviously it will be interesting to hear some different perspectives. After months and months of spending virtual evenings with the Tweedy family via The Tweedy Show on Instagram and getting to hear just about all of the songs that would eventually comprise Jeff's forthcoming

Yeah, guess they finally had to scrap the rest of the run. Thankfully I made it back to Chicago and can now just look forward to a couple weeks of record sorting or something, since everything else here seems to be cancelled too.

Just got a message from the Missoula promoter (Logjam Presents) that the Wilma show is now postponed. WTF? Doesn’t seem like the band has acknowledged this yet, at least on their social media. Hmm...
-
The official word just came down, at least via Twitter (and linked to the same message on Wilcoworld, except the one about the Calgary, Missoula and SLC shows still currently scheduled to go on): Wilco's upcoming tour dates in Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, Las Vegas and California are postponed. Every effort is being made to reschedule dates later in the year and we'll be in touch with more information shortly. Stay tuned to wilcoworld.net for updates. Take care of each other and stay safe. Calgary, Missoula and SLC shows are currently scheduled to go on. https://twitter.com/wilco/sta

Through the end of March, anyway. Seems like they’re gonna try to get the next three in, then reschedule the rest and/or see if LA/Vegas can be salvaged. That’s probably about all they can do. Hopefully some sort of official word is forthcoming ASAP.

It is kind of curious to me that I’ve received e-mails from seemingly every entity under the sun, but yet haven’t heard a peep from either the band or the venues/promoters about shows that seem almost certain to be postponed at the very least...

Well, a Wilco Wednesday in Winnipeg certainly proved to be a worthwhile way to spend an evening — especially when the Canadian audience finally woke up (and wisened up, IMHO) near the end of the main set by getting on its feet, which occurred when a woman's whine to Jeff actually worked. More on that to come, though I don't want to steal too much thunder from our resident VC Winnipegian(?), who should certainly feel free to chime in with his insights. For now, here was the complete setlist as played (there were no changes from the printed list): Bright Leaves Before Us Company In My Back

Sounds good, man. I’ll see you guys there.

In transit, so once again won’t get a chance to write much until later but for now, here was the complete setlist as played (Misunderstood was listed as the first song of the encore on the printed list but wasn’t played): Bright Leaves Before Us Company In My Back War On War Handshake Drugs Side With The Seeds One and a Half Stars Via Chicago Bull Black Nova Random Name Generator Reservations Hummingbird Impossible Germany California Stars (with Alan Sparhawk on electric guitar) Love Is Everywhere (Beware) Box Full Of Letters Everyone Hides Heavy Metal Drummer I’m The Man Who Loves You Hold M

It's officially Big Show Season, not that I necessarily saw this co-headline bill coming or this many dates. But hope to make at least a handful. That Aug. 29 date in Chicago conflicting with the Stapleton/Isbell/Highwomen show at Wrigley is annoying, though. Like a lot of people, probably, I had already bought tickets for that one. Ugh. Cool that they got NNAMDÏ to open most of the shows, though. Talented young Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist who has has played with Spencer in his band and filled in on drums with Ohmme, among other Tweedy/WIlco connections, and has a fairly buzzed-about

Some friends might be looking. Can we discuss in the ‘Peg on Wed.?

Amid all of the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus and talk of lockdowns and quarantines and cancellations, Wilco got the latest leg of its ongoing Ode To Joy tour underway on a Monday night before a sold-out but mostly respectful crowd in Wisconsin’s capitol city. How far west the band will be able to continue performing in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but at least in Madison, the worldwide turmoil was forgotten for a couple of hours as Jeff and Co. blazed through a solid, if unspectacular, set that was only halted by an apparent 10:30 p.m. curfew. More to come, but for now,

Interesting. This seems to maybe hint at some bigger summer shows on the way, what with the September TBT run and now this one. Seems like a good bet Philly will also get something along these lines, since they haven’t played there for OTJ yet. The Mann, perhaps? Hopefully not Camden.

Being a pretty big Bill and Ted’s fan, I was glad to find out more about why William Stanley Preston, Esq. (aka Bill, aka Alex Winter) was spotted at the Loft recently... https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/alex-winter-tweedy-showbiz-kids-961540/

Oh, that’s cool about P4AM. That’ll be a nice one to finally get on vinyl.

Looks like the Wilcovered Uncut comp is gonna be one of the RSD releases. I saw it pop up on the Rough Trade (US) list, anyway... https://www.roughtrade.com/us/record-store-day-2020?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Record+Store+Day+2020+Titles+Announced&utm_campaign=US+-+SOLUS+-+RSD

Really? Are all/most shows in Seattle currently being postponed or canceled? Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), I had to skip the Seattle Wilco shows on this upcoming run anyway, so it doesn’t affect my plans but I was just curious.
-
I didn’t, but nice job! No setlist for Jeff, though, huh?
-
Ok, I figured he must’ve played there at least once. That one’s not in any databases (at least not the setlist), though I at least see the entry for the show in setlist.fm. It was Nov. 22, 1998. Thanks for the clarification.

Two? Just the one, I think, right? Stop messing with me. They already screwed up my dinner plans once that week! (Yes, this is where I’m at vis à vis Wilco in 2020...don’t @ me.) But yes, the Fillmore is pretty great and I’m pretty sure second to the Riv in terms of full-band performances and creeping up. This will be, I think, the 17th Wilco show at the Fillmore, compared with something like 24 for the Riv. (Interestingly, I don’t think Jeff has ever performed solo or with anyone other than Wilco at the Riv unless it was a cameo or at a benefit or something like that, while he has done more
