  1. Hey there folks. I am looking to buy the Being There 180 gram version vinyl edition online somewhere but cannot find it. Anyone have any suggestions? The site will need to be able to deliver to Canada (just an fyi). Thanks.
  2. Favorite band of all time. I shit you not. I am so excited to hear their new album and to hopefully see them live.
  3. Buffalo Tom - Big Red Letter Day The National - Alligator Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway Matt Pond PA - Emblems
  4. You are right. I meant "Rock N Roll".
  5. In my opinion, the best year for music within this decade has been 2003. Just off the top of my head, here are some of the albums that were released: The Wrens - Meadowlands Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism The Strokes - Room on Fire Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway Broken Social Scene - You Forget it in People !!! - Louden Up Now Calexico - Feast of Wire The Drive By Truckers - Decoration Day Radiohead - Hail to the Thief (I was nto a fan but others like it) Longwave - The Strangest Things The National - Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghos
  6. Also, the majority of people on www.soundopinions.com/forum are loving it as well, though they are the biggest bunch of music snobs around. Solace can attest to that
  7. Are you kidding me? I think this is their poppiest album to date. have you not listened to "Fire it Up", "Florida", "Missed the Boat", "We've Got Everything" or "People as Places as Poeple"? They are all filled with hooks. I am sure Fire it Up will be the second single. My only big complaint is I feel it is a little over-produced but the songs are so damn good that I think that it outshines the few lowpoints.
  8. I love Let Me Come Over as well (probably in my top 10) but I find Big Red Letter Day to be much more consistant. Mineral, Porchlight and Saving Grace qare my favs from that record. As far all of their albums, I would rank them in this order: Big Red Letter Day > Let Me Come Over > Sleepy Eyed > Smitten > (self titled) > Bird Brain Nice to see that I am not the only Buffalo tom fan here. By the way, they are due to have a new album out this May!
  9. If I was asked this question between 1993 and 2000 I would have said Smashing Pumkins - Siamese Dream. That album however has lost a little bit of its shine over the last few years though it is still in my top 5 for sure. My absolute favorite album would have to be another album that came out durring the same time: Buffalo Tom - Big Red Letter Day if you have never heard this album, I encourage you to seek it out. I am sure it can be found at some larger indie / used record stores. While this 3 piece's album is not overly original or groundbreaking as many other albums listed in th
  10. I have read online that people suggest that new records are cleaned before they are played. I have done this (cleaned them before play) and also bypassed this step as well and found most of the time there is still a bit of surface noise. I recently dug out my copy of Smashing Pumpkins "Picieses Iscariot" which I had never played before, washed it with a Disc Washer, rinsed it with Distilled Water and then wiped it clean with two micro-fiber cloths. I let it air dry for two hours, give it a couple of swipes with my Carbon Fiber Brush and there are a ton of snaps, crackles and pops. I follo
  11. I pretty much read Paste every month. I love the CDs that come with it. I have been meaning to give Harp a try but never see it around. I am not a fan of the English mags (NME, Uncut, Mojo, etc.). Online, I stick with SoundOpinions.com (more a forum then anything) and Pitchfork.
  12. Ok one last question guys. What sort of cables will I need to acquire to hook a turntable up to my receiver? I am not sure the exact input on the back of my receiver but it does a PHONO setting (it is a Kenwood from the late 90's). What should I look for both on my receiver and on the turntable for inputs? Does it take regular RCA, or some special type of gable? Thanks again.
  13. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I will try to find me a album player locally though I am still unsure what I need (i.e. inputs to look for, direct drive vs. belt driven, good brands, etc.). I REALLY want to start buying vinyl real soon for some reason but I want to make sure that I can tell the differnece in the sound and make sure it is worth it before doing so. Thanks again for the posts and keep them coming. It is good to see as many opinions as possible (though I am leaning more towards Louie's opinion, more for the sake of that is all I can afford at the moment.)
  14. So is the consensus then to start with any old good working player? What are some other things I should look for in regards to Inputs (RCA?, etc.). Thanks
  15. Hi folks, So, I am comtemplating in getting a new hobby and I think it might just be collecting vinyl. Here is what I need to know: 1) How much is decent player with everything I need going to cost me? Also, what brand/player would you recommend? I would only really like to spend $100 on a player as I may not "get" the whole vinyl and do not want to invest a lot into a player (right now). 2) For a music enthusiast, I really know little about the "vinyl" sound. Other then it sounding warmer and more fuller, what else is great about it? If albums are kept in very good condition, will you
  16. Cablevision? Dolan? I don't think you were listening to my mix man.
  17. So has anyone downloaded my mix yet? Thoughts or comments?
  18. Thanks man. Teenage Fanclub are one of my favorite bands. I love Speed of Light as closer as well. Its such a very somber pop number.
  19. Hey folks. Well here is my inaugural mix. I really do not have a name or any cover art for it but as I was a little rushed in getting it out there. I will put more work into the next one, I promise. Anyway, hopefully you will like it. It is a mix of different genres and time periods but I think it flows together well. Anyway, here you go: Click Here to Download 01 Have You Forgotten - Red House Painters.mp3 02 Sodajerk - Buffalo Tom.mp3 03 One More Time - The French Kicks.mp3 04 (Something's Got to) Give Pretty Soon - Drive By Truckers.mp3 05 Your Hand In Mine - Explosions in the Sky.
  20. So I take it that it is too late for me to submit a mix, huh?
  21. Agreed. Not to be greedy or anything, but does anyone have a 192 or VBR mp3 rip by chance? Thanks in advance.
