  1. I think Jeff has said recently it makes him uneasy to change up the setlist that much every single night. I can't say I blame him. There has to be a certain degree of anxiety about feeling pressure to do something different/unique every single night. Of course I'd like to see variety, especially in multi-night stands, and am hoping for a lot of different stuff at the Chicago shows in December. But no repeats for three shows in a row all the time in different cities seems excessive. Something in the middle would be more reasonable.

I think that’s kinda what they do, right? The mix it up a fair amount. I’m going to 3 shows this leg, and I’d honestly be fine if it were the same set night after night.
  2. Hey Diane! Sorry if my post came across as critical of you or John. You guys are doing your best in a very tough situation. If you need anyone to come in and be a total jerk and just ban people (I am in favour of life time bans from anyone asking "what's your least favourite WIlco song?") I am your man. But that might just be putting gasoline on the situation!!

Honestly I wish we could have a Facebook group of 500 people MAX, the people who are/were regular VC posters, or go to lots of shows. Call it Wilco Snobs.

    I like that idea.

We could call it the “highy messed up freaks!!11!”

    does anybody remember that?

  3. One thing I think would help the FB page is to limit the amount of shit posting that can happen. I don’t know what all control a mod has in a FB group, but I think maybe some strict policy about “dont be a dick” should definitely be enforced...

Or we shut it down and start again?

  4. I'm not buying the album to get the liner notes to confirm - and you are likely joking anyway - but a Darin appearance seems unlikely given Jeff and Darin's apparent falling out. I meant to imply that the record has adventurous percussion as a base.

Hold on, they had a falling out?

  5. I would 100% of the time choose an album that causes this sort of a reaction out of the fanbase over an album with an apathetic "yeah it's OK I guess".

That said, yeah, the Facebook group is pretty nasty right now. By no means the mod team's fault (I can't imagine how frustrating a job like that would be at times like this ...for no pay!!). I think it's just a symptom of the Facebook group getting too large in the past few years. ViaChicago continues to contain the best Wilco dialog on the internet.

This 100%. I was lamenting to somebody earlier that I missed the tight knit days of VC in comparison to the huge, and sometimes kinda volatile facebook group,

I really am enjoying OTJ, there’s lots of little things to pick up on, much in the same way as AGIB and YHF had tiny things that (at least for me) it took a while to hear. I’m looking forward to see where this one grows. Also excited to see how they fit in a live set. Super excited to hopefully hear “Hold Me Anyway” next weekend in Atlanta through Nashville.

It’s interesting comparing it to Schmilco and Star Wars, in that I think it might sonically lie closer to some of the outtakes from TWL with the noise etc, I don’t know, it also kinda reminds me of the instrumental stuff from the Wilco Book CD back around AGIB.

  6. Bingo

I agree he needs to go away. I’m watching because this is like a car wreck and I can’t look away. The only way in my opinion he could stage a comeback is to take full responsibility, apologize to all the women he hurt and show he has changed. Until then don’t see it working. He seems so narcissistic with all these new posts

For sure. It was so disappointing to read that tweet, but not at all surprising.

I appreciate that Cold Roses helped get my through senior year of high school, and Easy Tiger helped soothe my first real break up, but I can’t support an abuser, so I won’t listen to him again or give him my money by going to shows.

  7. I wish Jeff’s vocals were a little less reverb-y so I could make the words out better. Also wanna take a crack at figuring out the chords this week.

    Such a pretty song.

Edit: I also got the tote bag, LP, socks, T-shirt combo, cos it’s what I’ve done for every album. The tote bag is a staple for a new Wilco record at this point. $500 for the deluxe is too much, when really the music is the most important part. And the tote bag. It’s important too.

  8. Track listing:

    Bright Leaves

    Before Us

    One and a Half Stars

    Quiet Amplifier

    Everyone Hides

    White Wooden Cross

    Citizens

    We Were Lucky

    Love Is Everywhere (Beware)

    Hold Me Anyway

    An Empty Corner

If my memory serves, wasn’t Everyone Hides a Tweedy song?

    Yup

  9. Still hoping people will embarrass themselves is a bad attitude to take over a festival that’s supposed to be a joyous thing.

    This.

Go. Have a good time. Sing along with the karaoke folks. Enjoy the damn music. It’s not complicated. If you sit there grumpy it doesn’t do anything for anybody, and probably sours your mood— just enjoy it for what it is.

Am I jealous as hell for those selected? Yup.

Am I sad as hell I can’t be there? Yup.

Do I wish folks egg on their faces? Fuck no, unless it’s breakfast.

I hope everybody nails it and has a blast!

  10. I don't doubt your experience or mean to suggest you're wrong. But everything is negotiable in business and artists do have the power to buck industry standards. How many times has Wilco demonstrated that? I suspect in this case, it's a Radio City thing, and not something we'll see at a theater in Arkansas, or something.

There’s platinum tix at almost every other venue on the tour though too.

There were platinum tix when Jeff played Chattanooga.

  11. Night 2 might go down as one of my top 5 wilco shows ever. The set list was incredible.

Really tickled to hear Laminated Cat in that room again. I saw Jeff solo at the Bijou back in 2006 and he had a really funny bit where some lady yelled for it, and he yelled it back with a put on southern accent. I laughed so hard I cried, and to this day my sister and I still joke about it.

While, it would have been nice to been down front with all my friends, our seats mid-way back afforded a great view of the set design. I’m dubbing it the magic junkyard set. Really lovely. I was just so stoked to even be in the room.

It was so nice to see Jeff playing his red SG’s again. Super stoked for the fall shows (and maybe Solid Sound if things work out).

    Wilco is back!

We skipped out on the poster(s) this time, but I did grab one of the show specific shirts. Never had one specifically for a couple shows, only ever the tour specific shirts. Really neat design complete with the Sun Sphere.

  12. Oh man, it bums me out to see so many people disappointed about the whole Karaoke thing...

it’s not like it’s gonna be first 10 people to make it side stage go up and it’s a train wreck. They’re looking for people who are competent singers. They’ll rehearse and it will be great, I’m sure! 15-year-old me would be going positively nuclear about such an opportunity (and I mean 30-year-old me is kinda super stoked too).

It’ll be alright, and I’m sure Jeff will sing too. It sounds like a really fun show. I am going to submit on both YouTube and Instagram. I hope to be picked, it’s our only shot at attending the festival.

  13. Can you tell the story of how the performance came to be? Did he ask you to join him? Did you rehearse? !!

He did. We were able to spend some time together earlier in the tour, and sang before a show. He was really impressed(which I still can’t believe.... just :omg) and asked if I wanted to do it on stage that night. I declined that night cos I was way too nervous, but I mentioned we were going to other shows too, and that Chattanooga was a hometown show(that I had been hoping for since I started listening to Wilco at 13), and he said we should definitely do it on stage. I was very nervous, but dang if Jeff believes in me I ought to believe in myself too.

The day of the show in Chattanooga came and I knew he wasn’t feeling well cos I saw where he couldn’t do his book event in Decatur the day before on Instagram. I felt awful cos he felt so poorly, and I was very surprised he even wanted to do the show given his condition. I would not have blamed him had he cancelled, it sucks to work when you’re sick

He seemed to feel a bit better later in the afternoon, so we ran through it once at soundcheck. I can’t get over how sweet he was to me. I mean over the years we’ve had moments, but it just blows me away he thinks as highly of me as I do him.

I gotta say also, that the Wilco crew is also amazing and hardworking, and just as sweet as Jeff is. :wub

    All the warm fuzzies.

  14. I remember seeing Wilco in Asheville in 2005 and Jeff saying, "I'd like to say hello to Sarah C. We're glad you finally made it to a Wilco show", or something very similar. I thought, "Wow, that's cool. I wonder who Sarah C is?". Not long after that, I found you on VC.

Good for you, Sarah. You sang beautifully. What a thrill! :)

    Right!

Yeah, it was so special, and Jeff’s always been so kind. I’m still kinda floored he thought I had a good enough voice to be on stage. :omg
