  1. The only thing about your run in with the guy at Radiohead that I haven't experienced is that he actually shut up.  In my experience, they try to act like they're in the right and I'm the bad guy.

My wife and I like to see bands in different cities, and we've noticed better behavior elsewhere, every time, without exception.  We were behind some loud talkers at a Wilco show in Des Moines several years ago.  Someone next to us asked them to stop talking so much and they apologized and shut up. I've never seen anything like that in Atlanta.  Frankly, I think that's the downside of so-called Southern Hospitality: you're a jerk if you refuse to let others walk all over you.

I'm not saying people shouldn't talk at all.  That would be unreasonable, and I wouldn't obey that rule if it were in place.  But some people take things to extremes and have no consideration for others.

I'll close by saying this:  The quiet parts in the songs are there for a reason and are just as interesting and entertaining as the loud parts.  Often more interesting.  Wilco would not be anywhere near as good of a band if they were loud all the time.  I wish people wouldn't use the quiet parts as an invitation to ignore the music and start yakking. That's gotta be frustrating as hell for musicians who are trying to use all of the musical tools at their disposal to present a quality show.   Can you imagine the outrage if people did this at movies?  Only paying attention during the car chase or shootout, and talking during the rest of the film?

Sorry for the rant.  I hope everyone gets great tickets!

Very true. I think the guy shut up mostly cos my sister had a very angry look on her face too. She was pissed.

And yeah, I've noticed that it's worse in ATL too than other spots for sure. I think it has a lot to do with the venue too. The shows back in 2016 at the Tabernacle were fairly well behaved where I was.

Are you considering any of the other shows this tour?

  2. I might pass.  Every time I've seen Wilco at the Fox in Atlanta I was surrounded on all sides by people that wouldn't STFU for two seconds and clearly had no interest in anything the band were playing.  I don't know if I can take any more of that.

This. The talkers were super discouraging last time they were at the Fox.

Atlanta crowds seem to be more and more about socializing and less about experiencing the actual show. There was a doofus in front of us at Radiohead back in April that would not shut up about his condo's mortgage rate for 2 or 3 whole songs. Eventually my sister tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to STFU or take his conversation elsewhere because he was talking over the band. The rest of the show he shut up. Super dumb.

I think I'm going to try for tickets for B'ham, ATL, and Asheville, but I'm only gonna pull the trigger if I get good seats. I don't want to have to deal with a bunch of rude, drunk, asshat doofuses.

  3. Part of me doesn't even wanna try for Atlanta cos the last time they played the fox it was a nightmare getting tickets.

Might opt for Birmingham instead cos it's not as busy of a market for the Wilcos. I guess we'll see.

  4. i checked out the set list... and i guess our definition of 'old stuff' differs quite a bit.

i get that it was an abbreviated festival set, but they totally ignore their first seven records at routine headlining gigs...

    I should have clarified.

When I saw them in 2012 here at a mid-sized venue, they were touring on The Terror and did a bunch of stuff from that. I went into it thinking I was gonna get a set like what I saw them do on ACL with Beck when that was on TV and I fell in love with both The Lips and Beck after that...it was a good show (even though my sister got severely dehydrated and passed out in the encore, so I had to do a kind of football charge to get out of there after security whisked her over the rail), but it wasn't exactly an uplifting show experience.

I was kinda disappointed they did tons of stuff from The Terror in '12, which is why the set at Riverbend was much better, imo. I guess Yoshimi & Soft Bulletin are considered mid-career records? For me they were the 1st ones I got, and didn't check out the older stuff till a couple years ago. It was just more reminiscent of those albums I fell in love with in high school.

  5. Saw the flaming lips on Saturday. They closed out the local shit show of a week long festival my city puts on. It was super awesome. They did tons of old stuff, and because they were on a 40ft high barge on the river they even used biodegradable confetti. Probably Top 20 Concerts  territory.

The last song was "Do you realize?" and the event organizers launched the fireworks before they even finished the song. Wayne told us at the beginning of the show that the first couple fireworks contained the cremated remains of a stage hand that worked for the local union here, which made it all the more poignant. It was amazing.

  6. As much as he has annoyed me at different points Paul McCartney (in spite of being obvious) has made way too many wonderful things not to mention.

I with thinking this very same thing.

Either him, Neil Young, or Jeff Tweedy. I'm too indecisive.

Nah, It's gotta be Paul McCartney. Everything I love about music sprouted from discovering him.

  7. definitely hope to see you Vince!

Unfortunately I didn't make it to the show. My dad was hospitalized yesterday, so I ate the ticket and stayed with him for a few hours last night. If you go let me know how the show is.

Oh damn. I'm sorry to hear that on both counts. Hope he feels better real quick.

  8. I collect Star Wars stuff. Lots of action figures and stuff like that.

I also collect nice hardbound editions of comic book runs. Mostly Marvel and Image titles, a few DC here and there.

Been playing guitar since I was 11 (I have 3. A jazz master, a tweedy Martin, and an Epiphone SG)

  9. Went ahead and grabbed Louisville tickets. Wouldn't complain if some Ryman dates get announced around Jazz Fest, though. Seems odd to just have that one off show from a touring cost standpoint. Granted festivals are big paydays...

I agree. It would be great, but I doubt it. They were just in Knoxville last week, so I bet it's 2018 before they hit Nashville or Atlanta again. I hope I'm wrong!

  10. I wish they'd squeeze Nashville in the night before Louisville. The Ryman is open that night. Seems odd to play Pittsburgh on Thursday and nothing until Louisville on Sunday...

I wish that too. There's not a chance they'd do just 1 night at the Ryman though.

  11. I am not going this year, so I suppose it does not matter, but in 2015 a chair was very helpful to me being able to keep my spot at the rail. Granted, I stayed there basically the entire time Friday and Saturday. I only ventured away for William Tyler and to do the drumming with Glenn. I always had somebody there though in the space. I also protected spaces for my friends. There were a few instances of people being kind of rude about it, but over all it worked out well.

Without the chair though, I would not have been able to physically maintain that spot, so if I were going this year it would have been a bummer.

People with fast legs, good luck. That line-up is super awesome.

I'm glad I got to go to 1 SSF. It was a one time thing.

  12. Still "in transit", with an expected delivery date of "Saturday, September 10, 2016". Might be time to file a claim with USPS. I suppose it's outta Kungfu's hands at this point, and even if I get a replacement CD I guess I'll be missing out on the shocking gum =/

Definitely check with KungFu. When Star Wars came out the CD I ordered got lost in the mail because USPS actually put a sticker on the boy where my address was so it got marked as undeliverable and return to sender. Maybe something similar happened to your order?
  13. Conversing DURING a song SHOULD be a no-no, like sitting in a movie theater. But shouting out between songs, to me, is fair game. It's similar to shouting positive or negative things at a baseball game after each pitch/hit/play.

It reaches a point though where it's super disruptive and disrespectful. Especially at a Wilco show. Jeff spends hours sometimes making a set list. Very rarely will they honor a shouted request, and odds are if they do, it was on the list anyway. So it's pretty pointless to yell at them to play something.
  14. The last 2 shows at the Ryman weren't hard for me via the presale. Even though they put the tickets on sale 1 hour early...The Ryman is simply the best.

Last time it wasn't too bad for me, but in 2011 I was shut out of night 2. Waited all day the day of show to get extra release production tickets for the 2nd night. Got em and it was great show, but so stressful.
  15. The American South anxiously awaits news of their return...

    Yes. We do.

I hope they play smaller places like last time, but then I also worry that it's gonna be so hard to get tickets.
