Monitoring global communications, including those of our allies, is the reason the National Security Agency exists. It's silly that they're monitoring Angela Merkel's personal phone thinking they're going to get some usable intelligence, but (the government of) Germany knows we spy on them, and we know Germany spies on us. It's an issue because it's public, and they have to rattle their saber and make noise about it, but it won't end up meaning anything in the long run.

2 questions/observations:

Also, to my knowledge car insurance is not mandated to all Wisconsonites, or even all Wisconsin car owners (or whatever state you might be talking about). Only if you choose to drive a car is it required.  On the other hand, this government mandate of health insurance falls on every American, regardless of intent to use any services.  Welcome to America, now buy some fucking insurance.

I don't buy car insurance with the intent to use any services. I hope I never have to.

You buy insurance to protect your car (for car owners) or your health (all humans). Insurance is now mandatory for both sets of users.

But when you do figure it out remember that it is ok refer to a white murder as an African American, but you can't refer to a non-white Hispanic as White.  Or at least that is what I learned today.  

George Zimmerman, though his skin is browner than a white man's, is a white Hispanic.

Once it became clear that Zimmerman had brown skin, the media resorted to calling Zimmerman a "white Hispanic." When is the last time you heard them refer to the president as a "white African-American" because he is half Caucasian?

 

White is a race. Hispanic is an ethnicity. Vicente Fox is a white Hispanic. David Ortiz is a black Hispanic. It can have important medical implications, but that of course is not why the media outlets were pointing it out.
