I've got no problems with concept albums... but this is just nonsense - he's rabbiting on about vampires and marching bands all over Brian May's guitar... Freddie wouldn't have approved.

It just amazes me... just because these guys have been marketed as "alternative" then the kids lap it up... There's only one overtly alternative and political punk rock record for me this year and that's been The Thermals album - this is what people should really be buying in droves... It does remind me more of The Darkness... the vocals are too over produced... there's some ok riffs in there, but it's a distinctly average album.

it's just really bonkers... I can't believe some people are saying this is dark scary and affecting the kids... this is more related to a Darkness record than, say, a Black Sabbath or metal record... It's fun, can't quite believe the kids are going quite so nuts over it...

Is this actually meant to sound like Queen?

Then you'll like this one

It's not bad... got it sent to review today. It's alot more polished than the previous one and the songs feel better written... it's not bad, but I wasn't a huge fan of the debut, but it's nice.

I did the same with Costello - Armed Forces recently, picked it up on vinyl in really good condition with some kind of fold out sleeve and postcards with it - it does sound sooooo good on vinyl imo... -

As long as you've got a phono setting then you'll be fine, just regular line cables will do you. My amp doesn't have a phono setting so I had to make sure I had a turntable with a built in amplifier, the signal from vinyl is a lot weaker than that from other pieces of equipment. -
Yeah, we went there as the missus was looking at a new car over there, some nice shops and not as busy as cambridge...

The trick is to set yourself a budget BEFORE you go in I was in Bury on Sat afternoon, their Fopp is huge, much better than Cambridge's.

It doesn't seem to be on the "acquisition" website as I'd like to give it a listen, that's for sure... if anyone could help me out that'd be great

it's good! I had a look online for the DVD yesterday, but no mention of the acoustic dvd, so I might have to pop into town itself and see if any of the record stores have it...

No Depression, Paste, Pitchfork, Harp
Welsh Rich replied to Embarcadero Eyes's topic in Someone Else's Song
Pitchfork and Drowned In Sound are my main sources of information... I've also just got a subscription to Harp magazine to see what it's like. Plan B magazine in the UK is also really good for new bands, even if some of the reviews and articles are a bit over the top! -

They cancelled the last two shows they were supposed to be playing in Cambridge so we were lucky last night They are sounding very tight though... think they played a new song last night to, not one I recognised and it sounded great.
