Here is 'Dreams'. Found one that was close and I cleaned it up. The Outro is wrong - I just repeated the bridge for simplicity.

Enjoy!

for Muzzle of Bees, Jeff was capo 2 at the Vic show. i'm almost positive. my seat wasn't very good for checking out his left hand, most of the time, but it appeared capo 2. his hand was mainly in a D shape, especially for the riff (which i can't get right!!!) then simple switch to the A/G.

thanks for the tab dude, it seems right to me.

Thanks, man. I think it sounds fine with Capo 2. But I am pretty sure it is at 5 for the Living Room Show version. At least to my ears (admittedly poor).

The little riff is difficult to get perfect, so I don't bother. Do a few random pull-offs and hammer-ons around the D - Dsus2 transition and voila! Close enough.

i always thought it was Capo at 7 (a la Here comes the sun)

the original tab posted on the old forum shows Capo 7 as well. i'll have to try this tonight. to be honest, neither 2 nor 5 sounds exactly right to me. i mean, they seem to work, but not perfect.

i still can't quite get down the little riff, and it's driving me nuts.

When Jeff plays solo he is prone to play it capo 2. When with Wilco it's capo 7. He chooses to play it down low to play the bridge, where during the second time through he does it an octave higher. I constructed a tab of it way back when:

based off of 2006.02.26 Mandel Hall University of Chicago:

Capo 2 (but it really doesn't matter where you capo it), Drop D.

These are the official lyrics, but I like the alternate lyrics and blend them in. I won't bother going through these, but if necessary I'll add them on later.

"Quotes" are my interjections of necessary riffs and such.

"
--2p0-
-----3
------
------
------
-0---- x2

That's the main riff, or [R].

Note: On the third time you execute the small bit of the riff, instead of 2p0, do 0h2."

Chords are relative to capo, and A major would be [A].
Also, note that A minor is [a], and etc.

[R] x2

[A]
There's a random painted highway
	  [G] [R]
And a muzzle of bees
[A]
My sleeves have come unstitched
	  [G] [R]x2
From climbing your tree

[G]
And dogs laugh, some say they're barking
								 [R]
I don't think they're mean
[G]
Some people get so frightened
								 [R]x2
Of the fences in between

[A]
And the sun gets passed from tree to tree
[e] [G] [R]
Silently, and back to me
[A]
With the breeze blown through
Pushed up against the sea
[e] [G]
Finally back to me

"[e], for those who haven't figured it out:
-0-
-0-
-0-
-2-
-2-
-2-

At this point a riff comes up:

----------
--2-0-----
---2-1s2--
--------4- <<<Sounding the 4 here is okay on the last note.
---------- <<<Open here is okay on the last note.
-0-------0 x2

We'll call it [R2]."

[R2]

[G]
I'm assuming you got my message
					  [R2]
On your machine
[G]
I'm assuming you love me
					[R2]
And you know what that means

"And so, we come this this interlude part. Generally, it's
[a] [Cmaj7] [G] [R], but it's more detailed than that:

and a note: While you do the crazy pull-offs, it's recommended to
play the chord on the bottom too, as to fill up the space a little more.

[a]var1
----------------------------
--1--3p1p0p1-3p1p0p1-3p1p0p1
---2------------------------
----2-----------------------
-0--------------------------
----------------------------

[Cmaj7]
----------------------------
--0--3p1p0p1-3p1p0p1-3p1p0p1
---0------------------------
----2-----------------------
-3--------------------------
----------------------------

[G]
-3---3---
-3---3---
-0---0---
-0---0---
-2---2---
-0---0---
----------

[a]var2
--8- 10p8s7s8-10p8s7s8-10p8s7s8
---10-- -------- -------- -------
---- 9- -------- -------- -------
----- - -------- -------- -------
-0--- - -------- -------- -------
------- -------- -------- -------"

Now that the notation is done with, here's how Tweedy does it solo:

[a]var1 [Cmaj7] [G] [R] [a]var2 [Cmaj7] [G] [D]

But, if you're playing like how the full band does it, which capoes 7, you'll
have to do it such, as you can't reach that far up the fretboard (a job for Elasticman?):

[a]var1 [Cmaj7] [G] [R] [a]var1 [Cmaj7] [G] [D]

[A]
Sun gets passed, sea to sea
[e] [G] [D]
Silently, and back to me
[A]
With the breeze blown through
						   [e]
Pushed up above the leaves

[A]
With the breeze blown through
						[e]
My head upon your knee
		   [G] [D]
Half of it's you, half is me
[e] [G] [D]
Half of it's you, half is me

"At which point, there's some weird chord things that happen:

[a9]
-0-
-1-
-4-
-2-
-0-
---

[Cmaj7]
---
-0-
-0-
-2-
-3-
---

[G6]
-0-
-0-
-0-
-0-
-2-
-0-"

So, it's usually about (it varies, as i've noticed) [a9]x8 strums, [Cmaj7]x8 strums, [G6]x2 strums, [D]x8 strums.

Then, you happen upon the interlude again:

[a]var1 [Cmaj7] [G] [R] [a]var2 [Cmaj7] [G] [D]

But, if you're playing like how the full band does it, which capoes 7, you'll
have to do it such, as you can't reach that far up the fretboard (a job for Elasticman?):

[a]var1 [Cmaj7] [G] [R] [a]var1 [Cmaj7] [G] [D]

and end.

By the way, it's all fingerpicked.

The bridge part is in there......

Try this:

|----2-2p0----------2p0-----0----|----0h2-----0h2-----0----|
|-----------3------------3-----3-|---------3-------3-----3-|
|--------------------------------|-------------------------|
|----0---------0----0------------|----0-------0------------|
|--------------------------------|-------------------------|
|-0---------------0--------------|-0-----------------------|

Sounds pretty close to my ears.

im a complete amatuer with no musical ability, but i love TRYING to play jeff solo songs on my aucostic guitar, but i have to mostly stick to songs like "misunderstood" and "pick up the change." anyway, what im getting at is ive always dug "was i in your dreams" and want to play it, but those intro's and riffs are a bit over my head! the chords are no problem. does anyone have any tips for a starting finger position or maybe some shortcuts that would make it still sound decent for someone of my ability. what are some songs jeff plays solo that i can have fun with without being much of a picker? i want to play some things other than just chords, so i guess im asking which songs have semi-easy riffs that wouldnt drive me nuts trying to play, and if someone could direct me to them. i dont need anything crazy easy like "misunderstood," im trying to improve by playing slightly harder songs, but the riffs here are still a bit over my head! my skill level would be be described by saying that im absolutly jamming if i get through the "sweet home alabama" intro, which i know is childs play for most of yall! anyway thanks for any help....actually im going to start a new thread for this so i can stay out of yalls way. it will be entitled "good starter songs." thanks a ton for yalls kindness and help!

FWIW, the solo version (of Muzzle of Bees) I am working from (don't have the date) is capo 2. That picking patern is tough. From the sounds of it, Tweedy struggles with it too.

I play it capo 5...and I think Jeff does too. Althouhg for the full band recently I think hes been doing capo 7. Anyway you can play it capo 2 if thats what key you like to sing in, doesn't really matter the dynamic of the song is the same:

verse goes D A G, IIRC. It is finger-picked, its not that difficult. The D chord features a pull-off on the high e string to make the riff.

The bridge (I guess?) towards the end goes Am, C, G, D...again from memory. Jeff adds a good bit of fanciness to these chords that you might be able to figure out... hint: hold the chord shape and look for pulloffs and hammer-ons that you can do with your free fingers.

There is also a little riff that is normally played on piano:

Strum G during the "I'm assuming you got my message, on your message" then comes the riff:

e------------------
B--2----0---------
G----2----1--2---
D----------------4
A--0-0--0-0--0---0
E-----------------

You don't have to play the bass notes on the A string along with the high notes but it sounds better IMO if you aren't playing the rest without a pick (which you shouldn't, cause the song is fingerpicked solo).
