Oh, the reason I asked was because "A Cherry Ghost," is showing up under my member name, and under some others on here. I thought it was because I was a virgin poster, so it swirled, and that's what came up. I feel so fresh...hauntingly fresh!

As a veteran Wilco show goer, I want to say a few things to the C'ville people here, and to the city. YOU FOLKS ROCKED. Easily THE most spirited crowd I've ever experienced at a Wilco show, and I've seen them all over. It all just came together Sunday night, didn't it. The venue (btw, it just received a sound upgrade, which is why some of you said it "sounded better than b4)," the weather, and the vibe of the city. You have a gem of a city. Christ, this notherner wants to move there! (be nice!). It was all just real good. And the band responded in kind. Tweedy wasn't being sarcastic (for a change...you shoulda heard him in Jersey Friday night) when he said he felt safe. So to all you posters here who are local, I salute you. I spent 3 days in C'vile & will be back in the fall.

To the taper in green, I was the guy in the blue t-shirt who was right in front of you to your left...you answered my question with etree. Just sent you a PM.

C'ville, thx. You rule!

BTW, that was an exceptional performance all the way around. Would expect that would be considered a classic performance AND best show of this tour segment by far

I am a Charlottesville resident, although I was not born here, and I agree with many of the posts above lauding the show and the crowd. My, how things have changed since Wilco last played here in 1997, at Trax (Jeff diving into the crowd during

the venue did get a sound upgrade for sure (the sound was f*cking terrible in there last year) but I think Wilco (ie: Stan) did a great job making it meet its full potential even with the improvements. I saw a double bill there 3 nights earlier and the sound didn't even compare to Wilco's.

Having seen & taped I'd guess 15 or so wilco shows over the last 3-4 years this was definitely the most energetic and had the best crowd response. 2/19/05 Myrtle Beach & 6/9/04 9:30 Club probably come in right behind it for me. I'll have the torrent up tonight so everyone can see for themselves.

LCH: I saw the 97 Trax show also (as well as a 92 or 93 Tupelo show there as well) and it was much more rocking than the 97 Mayo Island show in Richmond (then again, how psyched could Tweedy get playing on a bill before G Love & Special Sauce.....

I haven't called this the best Wilco show I've seen, because I also was at the 6/09/04 show at the 9:30 Club - and that was a great, great show. Jeff running onstage, looking happy to be alive, the cracks about Reagan's funeral, hearing the new line-up live for the first time (for me). It was incredible.

The Charlottesville show Sunday night is right up there, though. It's a really hard call which was better, so I won't make it. I'm glad to have been at both.

I feel EXACTLY the same way on this.. I've seen ten Wilco shows and these two were my top two. I could have stayed at the Charlottesville show for maybe 12 straight hours.. the weather and sound and crowd came together so perfectly. I am still glowing.

you can thank me for wishful thinking..ha! but in all seriousness, i met jeff at the williamsburg show, and i asked him if he'd be willing to take a request for the charlottesville show..he said sure..and i asked if they'd play wishful thinking...he responded "sure, we can do that"...when they started playing it at charlottesville i about fell over...easily one of the greatest moments of my life.

Well, Kate H, if you were wearing running shoes and a knee-length skirt, if you were at the far right of the venue (stage left) maybe as far back as the sound/tech panel, then I guess I was watching you. (I was at the back, still under the canopy.) Props to you. You've got one heck of a vertical leap.

Ha! Knee length skirt yes, but no running shoes---flip flops that were off more than on. Either way, I had a blast dancing, and am soooo glad to know so many more people were dancing, too (apparently down in front, and...in running shoes!) I recall the mid-90s became a very dry period for expressiveness at shows. Not wholesale, mind you, but the "culture of cool" toned things down at far too many shows, making those who danced an annoyance, or embarrasment to too many irked showgoers, rather than a source of joy and sharing and flowing for/with others. Talking to other dancers out there I've heard that same recollection, yet a tide starting to turn at more than just festivals...

Props to everyone at the C-Ville show, and gratitude to Wilco for the origins of that well.

This show was outstanding. I have seen Wilco several times, but this one trumps them all. The guys super tight. Really enjoyed this version of Walken.

I thought that the sound was excellent. I was right in front of the board for the whole show and could hear everything perfectly, all the levels were great. I guess from what people were saying they had made a few improvments on the acoustics at the pavillion since last year. Great place to see a show.

I think one of the keys to why this show was so amazing was the design of the venue and the fact that all of the seats were General Admission. I saw them last fall at Merriwhether Post in Md. which is probably a bigger venue, but the first few dozen rows of seats are all assigned spots with chairs. Its a good setup to see Burt Bacharach, or Dolly Parton, but not a good setting to rock out. The Charlottesville Pavillion has a really awesome open, downtown vibe that gives it a real community feeling. Ive lived in Cville since 2001 and gone to lots of various rock shows, but I would have to say that the quality of the acts that we are able to draw and the quality of the crowds has skyrocketed in the 12 months since the Pavillion opened. I was also psyched to see the diverse mix of people in the crowd, from the toddler sitting on his parents shoulders in the front that Jeff kept on talking to, to the 60 year old dude standing next to me who I shared my ganja with, everyone just seemed to get along. The much longer setlist than the previous night in Williamsburg probably had to do with the wonderful atmosphere that existed on Sunday.

Amazing show!!!

I am proud to say that I drove 3250 miles to see Wilco :dancing

(was travelling cross country back home to philly anyway, but we high-tailed it across the country from San Francisco to C-ville in only a few days to catch the last night of the tour!)
